I recently spoke to Sirin of the Void about what categories are candidates for deletion. I'm not denying that the wiki needs a cleanup and I'm all for it. There are plenty of categories that I can do without and will not be sorry to see go. However, there are also plenty that I think we need to keep. First, any category with a counterpart on Villains Wiki is out of the question.
Cowboys are the good counterpart to Outlaws (we can just merge Cowgirls into that)
Outright Heroes are the good counterpart to Sadists
Good Hearted Bastards are the good counterpart to Affably Evil
Heroes from the past are the good counterpart to Evil from the Past (and if we're keeping that, we should keep Heroes of the Future, too)
Ingenue is the good counterpart to Femme Fatale
Monster Slayers/Monster Tamers are the good counterpart to Monster Master
Political is the good counterpart to Master Manipulator
Fortune Hunters are the good counterpart to Greedy villains
Damsel in distress/Male Damsels are the good counterpart to Kidnappers
Religious Heroes are the good counterparts to Fanatics
And there are a few others that I can't quite remember. Also, Vampires is still a category on Villains Wiki, yet Sirin is suggesting to merge it into Undead.
In addition to the above, Sirin is suggesting to merge Good Hearted Bastards into Anti-Hero. However, I think most of us can agree that they are not the same thing. Not all Anti-Heroes are Good Hearted Bastards and not all Good Hearted Bastards are Anti-Heroes. I would rather not have this become like TV Tropes, which abuses Anti-Hero so much it's almost scary.
Additionally, merging Genius into Mastermind is not a good idea. All Masterminds are Geniuses but not all Geniuses are Masterminds. Intelligence is a lot harder to nail down with heroes, as their intelligence involves anything from figuring things out, making strategies or having a keen intellect in general. Masterminds are simply rare individuals who take this to a new level. If anything, Mastermind should be merged into Genius, seeing as the former is generally used to describe villains.
Similarly, Assistants should not be merged into Sidekicks, as Assistants cover anything from butlers, maids, secretaries and lab assistants. I never saw much use for the Sidekick category so I think we should remove that one instead. We have Assistants and we have Right-Hand, so why should we keep that?
I also believe that Heroes with Evil Counterparts should be kept. I've long believed that merging Evil Counterpart into Rivals was a mistake on Villains Wiki, as while Evil Counterparts are often Rivals, they are not always. For example, Ulqiorra Cifer is the evil counterpart to Byakuya Kuchiki but they never meet or interact. On top of that, heroes are just as often rivals with each other as they are with villains. Though, I suppose this could simply be covered via text.
There are also several other categories such as Hope Bringer, Passively Empathetic, Determinators, Sympathetic Heroes, Optimists, Pessimists Turned Optimists and Destiny Defiers that have been among my favourites for years and I believe to be important and noteworthy heroic traits. Spoiled Sweet I'm neutral on, but as the person who created it I'm leaning a bit more towards keep, as I think a character being very kind in spite of their upbringing is a trait worth noting.
There are more, but I'll discuss those as time goes on. Please note that I mean no offence to anyone by posting this. I simply believe that as a chat moderator, whose job is to prevent spamming, I have the right to voice my opinion. I hope to hear from some of you soon.
