AJ is a 10-year-old boy and the deuteragonist in Blaze and the Monster Machines. He is Blaze's driver and best friend. As a technology expert, AJ is very smart and knows all about different machines and types of science, and how each one works. He is equipped with various gadgets, like his skywriting gloves which allow him to draw pictures in mid-air, and his Visor View in his helmet which he uses to see things faraway. He, along with Blaze, has appeared in every episode of the show.

He is voiced by Owen Mason.

Personality[]

AJ is generally calm and collected. He is intuitive and rather intelligent when it comes to solve problems.

Appearance[]

AJ is a human with light brown skin, dark brown hair and brown eyes. He wears a white, red and black racer outfit, with an optional red and black helmet. The upper part of his outfit has a flame symbol on it.

Powers and Abilities[]

AJ is Blaze's driver, and is shown to be an expert at driving. While Blaze can drive on his own, AJ usually assists in driving him, often helping him steer in the right direction or stop him by slamming on the brakes. AJ can also operate the major parts of the machines Blaze transforms into.

Visor View[]

AJ has a special visor built into his helmet, which allows him to see things that no one else can. When he is about to deploy it, he says, “Switching to Visor View,” then presses a button on either side. The visor deploys, and various details can be shown, such as an object’s weight, a trajectory of where an object will land, the amount of force something has, and other scientific reasons. AJ’s Visor View can also see things from really far away, and underground as well.

Skywriting[]

AJ can manifest images out of energy and manipulate them like they were real so the audience has a visual of the subject. Most of the time they were used to help select a transformation. Since the animation update, AJ projects a digital diagram on his wrist computer or Blaze's monitor instead of the skywriting, which was only used on occasion.

Trivia[]

  • He and Blaze are the only two characters to appear in every episode.
  • Judging by his skin tone, AJ might be either Hispanic or Latino.
  • For the first eleven episodes and Season 5 onward, AJ's voice actor did his own singing, but from The Mystery Bandit through The Mechanic Team!, AJ had a singing double for the songs.
    • Therefore, AJ is the only character with two separate voice actors, one for speaking, and another for singing. The rest of the cast do their own singing.
  • So far, AJ has sung five songs alone (four STEM songs and one special song), "Lever", "Magnets", "Let's Investigate", "I Wanna Be An Engineer For Christmas" and "Get To Work!". He is also the main singer for two travel songs, "Let's Blaze" and "Ride Of Our Lives".
  • When the animation was updated as of mid-Season 3, the color of his Visor View changed from orange to white.
  • Sometimes when Blaze transforms or uses a utility, AJ's suit will also change. When Blaze became a race car, the black portions of AJ's suit and helmet are changed to red, and when Blaze activated his speed lights, some portions of AJ's suit emit a faint glow to match.
    • Also, when Blaze turns into a water vehicle, he automatically has a life jacket on.
  • The only episode to date that AJ didn’t interact with the viewer was Raceday Rescue.
  • AJ's singing voice in Seasons 1 and 2 sound similar to how Michael Jackson sounded back when he was part of the Jackson 5.
  • AJ has used his Visor View fewer times than before each new season.
  • AJ has described fewer STEM concepts than Blaze, but since Season 3, he's become the usual one to present such.
  • In Seasons 2 and 3 as well as the Wild Wheels miniseries, AJ would say "Yeah!" prior to explanation of the STEM concept or facts about such.
  • AJ is shown to be a rather fast runner, even showing to run the same speed as Blaze. He is also shown to jump three times higher than a normal human ever could in real life.
  • Without his helmet, AJ looks very similar to Santiago Montes from Santiago of the Seas.
