AMS is the organization out to stop undead outbreak caused by monsters created by DBR Corporation in The House of the Dead games, and the heroic playable characters of the games. AMS sometimes has other people (with their own agendas) as allies in their monster-hunting.
History[]
Overkill[]
The disappearances and mutant outbreak are investigated by Agent G (a rookie AMS agent). Along the way, G encounters a short-tempered detective named Isaac Washington. They storm Papa Caesar's mansion. Caesar, a crime lord who killed Isaac's father, flees. A disabled scientist named Jasper Guns, whom Caesar used, is mutated after injecting himself with an unknown substance. After defeating Jasper, Agent G and Isaac meet a stripper named Varla Guns. She is revealed to be Jasper's sister, and seeks revenge on Caesar.
After a long night of fighting, Agent G and Isaac come to a high security prison, with Caesar and Varla strapped to electric chairs. Warden Clement Darling claims responsibility for the outbreak, with Caesar a mere accomplice. He then executes Caesar, robbing Isaac of his revenge. Agent G and Isaac fight Brutus the Ruthless, a mutated convict who murders his partner before the battle.
Agent G and Isaac confront Clement in his underground laboratory. To cure his sick mother (with whom he shares an incestuous relationship), Clement has transplanted her brain into Varla's body, which grows and mutates into a giant creature known as Mother. After her defeat, Clement "returns to the womb" to atone for the problems he caused.
Agent G and Isaac leave on a helicopter with Varla's still active brain in a jar, detonating the facility. G tells Varla of his feelings for her, prompting him and Isaac to discuss the game's moral and political messages. The helicopter pilot is then revealed to be a mutant. In his tape recording, Caesar reveals Clement was involved with "powerful friends", and that Isaac's father is still alive.
House of the Dead[]
Doctor Curien, the research director of DBR Corporation, pursues the controlling of life and death; in doing this, he descends into insanity. On 18th December, 1998, he unleashes biologically-engineered creatures upon his staff at the Curien Mansion, which is somewhere in Europe. Two days later, AMS agent Thomas Rogan receives a distressed phone call from his fiancée, Sophie Richards.
Thomas and his partner, Agent G, arrive at the creature-infested mansion. Thomas and Agent G reunite with Sophie, who is then kidnapped by the bat-human hybrid known as Hangedman. The agents find Sophie inside the mansion, but the armored behemoth Chariot seemingly kills her. After Thomas and Agent G kill Hangedman in a rooftop fight, they find Curien, but he escapes.
After defeating the spider-like Hermit and a revived Chariot and Hangedman, the agents confront Curien in an underground DBR research center located in a cavern system underneath the estate. Curien awakes Magician, an armored creature with mastery of fire. However, Magician refuses to recognize Curien as his master and kills him. Rogan and G defeat the creature, who, before exploding, warns that the ordeal is not over. As they leave the mansion, the agents bid Sophie and Curien farewell.
Scoring under 62,000 points with a ones digit of any number except 0 will show the mansion in the distance as the game ends. Scoring under 62,000 points with a ones digit of 0 reveals the worst ending, in which the mansion doors open, revealing Sophie to be a creature. Scoring over 62,000 points reveals the canon ending, in which the mansion doors open, revealing Sophie to be alive, before she runs at the camera and exclaims "Thank you!"
House of the Dead 2[]
On 26th February, 2000, an outbreak of vicious creatures attacks an unnamed city, which AMS agents James Taylor and Gary Stewart investigate. James and Gary meet their injured partner, Agent G, who provides them his field journal of the creatures' weak points, before collapsing and seemingly dying. James and Gary rescue several fleeing civilians and defeat several monsters. They then rendezvous with two of their colleagies, Amy Crystal and Harry Harris. Harry reveals that Caleb Goldman, the head of a financial group, masterminded the 1998 Curien Mansion incident, as he funded the late Dr. Curien's research, which he then used to engineer the citywide outbreak.
In a phone message, Goldman invites the four agents to meet him at the Roman Colosseum, which they hesitantly accept, splitting up again. James and Gary enter the sewer system, battling Tower in the process. Meanwhile, Amy and Harry directly enter the Colosseum. After losing contact with them, James and Gary battle their way into the Colosseum to rescue Amy and an injured Harry from a chainsaw-wielding mutant named Strength.
After killing Strength, James and Gary drive Harry's car to Goldman's headquarters. In the process, they must fight a revived Judgement, Hierophant, Magician, and Tower. The agents manage, and then confront Goldman, who claims that he wants to protect the life cycle from mankind. He awakens Emperor, a creature intended to be humanity's ruler, whom James and Gary defeat. Warning that "a successor will come", Goldman commits suicide by falling off his building's roof.
Whilst unsure if their actions were correct, James and Gary vow to keep fighting. Once James and Gary get back to the ground floor and get just outside of Goldman's headquarters, in the "Normal" ending, they are greeted by Amy, Harry, Agent G, and a group of civilians, who thank them. In the "Good" ending, AMS agent Thomas Rogan appears at the entrance of Goldman's headquarters, revealing that Agent G and Harry are alright, and says "On we go, to our next battle."
This prompts either James to say "As long as we have the will to live." or Gary to say "As long as there is an answer."
House of the Dead 4[]
In 2003, in spite of AMS doing its utmost to prevent the global undead outbreak, it ultimately failed, and the organization dissolves along with the collapse of civilization worldwide. Three years after the events of The House of the Dead 2, AMS agent James Taylor and newcomer Kate Green are haunted by the legacy of genetic engineer Caleb Goldman. James, a veteran, and Kate, a rookie, are at the fifth basement floor of the AMS European branch office. As they gather intelligence, James has a theory that the events from three years earlier have not truly ended. Then, a sudden earthquake rocks the room, collapsing the basement walls and trapping the agents inside.
Several days later, the two are still awaiting backup when James' PDA goes off. Hordes of creatures appear on the security cameras, so James and Kate arm themselves and escape. In the office's Classified Information Room, the agents uncover a plot to fire nuclear missiles worldwide within twenty-four hours. Navigating through the sewers, James and Kate battle the four-armed Justice, as well as a pair of giant tarantulas called The Lovers. The Empress, a monster wielding a double-ended chainsaw, attempts to fight the duo, but they evade the creature.
The agents then take the subway to an underground shopping district. Reaching the creature-infested streets, they defeat an obese, almost impervious creature called Temperance, before finding the city obliterated. James then receives a PDA message from the late Caleb Goldman, the man behind the 2000 incident. Goldman, whose messages and current plans were set into motion before his death, begins the nuclear missile launch countdown. James and Kate head to Goldman's abandoned headquarters.
Once there, they defeat The Star, a levitating creature who wounds James after exploding. In flashbacks to the 2000 incident, Goldman rants about how mankind's greed and self-destruction have broken "the natural harmony of the world". As James and Gary confront him, he cryptically declares that "Pandora's Box is opening". James and Kate stop the missile launch, but Goldman states in a pre-recorded message that he only wanted to revert self-destructing humans to their "natural state".
Goldman's final legacy, a monster called The World, is then released from beneath the building courtyard in the opening of Pandora's Box, fulfilling its role as Emperor's successor. Seeing that, The World continues to grow and revive itself, and James sets his PDA to self-destruct. Telling Kate not to "give up hope", he sacrifices himself in the explosion, taking The World with him. A shaken and distraught Kate leaves Goldman's premises.
House of the Dead 4 Special[]
That night, Kate wanders the abandoned city alone, acting on her promise to James to keep fighting and never give up hope. She then encounters Agent G, who claims that the battle is not over. Together, Kate and Agent G fight the infestation of creatures to its source. The agents drive to an unidentified building, killing a revived Justice in the parking garage. In the core of a secret lab, they discover a reawakened Magician. Recognising and welcoming the AMS agents, Magician seeks revenge for the pain he has endured.
Upon defeat, Magician attempts to open Pandora's Box, which appears before him. Failing the following quick time event (QTE) shows the bad ending, in which Magician activates several clones of himself, laughing as G says "Who's next?". However, completing this quick time event shows the good ending, in which Pandora's Box is destroyed; Magician claims "Nothing can erase my pain..." before exploding. As they leave, G tells Kate that the fight is about to begin.
Moreover, achieving an A rank or higher in both chapters, scoring over 70,000 points, as well as earning the good ending, will show the bonus ending. This is the canon ending, and follows the good ending. A mysterious man limps where Magician was fought, remarking "So, Pandora's Box has been closed. That is, if there is any 'hope' left. The Wheel of Fate cannot be stopped."
Scarlet Dawn[]
On 6th December, 2006, AMS agents Ryan Taylor (late James' younger brother) and Kate Green are dispatched to Scarecrow Manor for an undercover investigation. At a dinner service, the manor's owner unleashes hordes of biologically-engineered creatures upon the guests. Whilst battling to reach safety, Kate uses her PDA to call an unmanned helicopter, which crashes as the building collapses. Escaping the carnage, but with no backup available, Kate and Ryan explore the manor.
They battle the armored Chariot in the annex, the squid-like High Priestess in a laboratory, and the winged Hangedman after taking a path through the elevator lobby. Ryan worries that he will share the same fate as James. Kate identifies the owner as Thornheart, a man who survived a deadly illness and is developing a mysterious project named "Noah's Ark". In 1880, the ancestors of Thornheart, Curien, and Goldman founded an unknown organisation.
According to Kate, this organisation was the catalyst for previous incidents investigated by the AMS. Kate and Ryan confront Thornheart, who reveals that the purpose of "Noah's Ark" is to create "new life to be born in a new evolution". He releases Moon, a tree-like giant who is impervious to gunfire and constantly grows. When all seems hopeless, Ryan impales Moon's head with a metal rod, which kills the creature when struck by lightning. Kate tells Ryan that she believes this was James himself intervening from the dead.
With the threat neutralised, the agents leave Scarecrow Manor as the Sun rises.
House of the Dead 3[]
In a post-apocalyptic 2019, retired AMS agent Thomas Rogan and his team of military commandos (all former agents of AMS) raid the EFI Research Facility for the source of humanity's downfall. The raid is botched, as the entire team is killed, leaving only Rogan and team captain Dan Taylor alive. When the duo finds the source, a behemoth named Death in a security guard uniform kills Dan and injures Thomas, who is approached by an unknown figure. Contact with him is then lost.
Two weeks later, on 31st October, Thomas' 20-year-old daughter Lisa, as well as Thomas' ex-partner Agent G, both arrive at the EFI building to find him. They fight biologically-engineered creatures, including Death, the Fool (a deformed sloth), and Sun (a plant-like mutant). Along the way, Lisa muses about her and her mother's estranged relationship with Thomas. Flashbacks depict Curien in his pursuit to cure his terminally-ill son Daniel. While successful, Curien went mad after his research team abandoned him, producing Magician and Wheel of Fate to "change the future".
Lisa and Agent G reunite with Thomas, who reveals his rescuer to be Daniel Curien himself. Whilst Agent G tends to Rogan, Lisa and Daniel fight to Wheel of Fate's laboratory. Daniel reveals that Wheel of Fate is his father, whose body has undergone a nineteen-year resurrection process; he prematurely awakens it through hacking. Wheel of Fate seeks mankind's destruction and resurrection. Upon defeat, Curien laments world overpopulation and begs for his son's forgiveness. Refusing to recognise the creature as his father, Daniel helps Lisa destroy him.
As they leave the EFI building, Thomas and Agent G discuss the uncertain future. Thomas is optimistic, stating that it is up to the next generation "to believe in themselves, and walk their own paths".

Trivia[]
- It is unknown what AMS really stands for.
- The House of the Dead features two characters called Lisa and James, similar to other horror franchises: Silent Hill (Lisa Garland & James Sunderland), Resident Evil (Lisa Trevor & James Marcus), and Dead Rising (Lisa Hersey & James Cabalerro/Ramsey).
- Resident Evil and HOTD also have many similarities. An organisation (Umbrella / DBR) was formed by three men to evolve humanity through genetic engineering. In 1998, two elite task force operatives (Chris & Jill / Rogan & G) fight their way through the mansion of one of the founding families, now infested with zombies and monsters, including a giant spider. In the lab underneath the mansion, the two confront the outbreak's sunglasses-clad orchestrator (Wesker / Curien), an associate of the two, where he is killed by the ultimate creation of this vile research. The two operatives then destroy the creature, ending the incident. Another outbreak then occurs in a city due to another mad scientist (Birkin / Goldman), where two new heroes (Leon & Claire / James & Gary) arise. Similar incidents begin occurring all across the globe following this, with the returning survivors alternating per instalment. The survivors unite against the organisation, vowing to take them down for good. A later event sees the orchestrator of the first plot return in a new form to oppose the original heroes, and his son (Jake Muller / Daniel Curien) arises as a hero of the second generation alongside a blonde woman around his age (Sherry Birkin / Lisa Rogan). There is also a prequel story starring a character from the first story (Rebecca Chambers / G) working alongside a breakout character who has never returned (Billy Coen / Isaac Washington).
