The story of the prodigious last Airbending Avatar Aang from the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise
Early Life[]

The birth of a new avatar.
Aang was born to two airbenders from the southern Air Temples, like both his parents he discovered he was one himself and amazingly, he was shown to be a prodigy at air-bending at a very young age. Also somewhere along the line, when Aang reached a certain age he was asked to pick 4 toys out of thousands by the older monks, which would prove to be an instrumental change in his life much later.
During his time training Aang was taken under the mentorship of the eccentric Monk Gyatso who also became a father-figure to him as well, and even making himself a lifelong companion in the form of a sky bison he happily named Appa. He also made friends with kids all around the world such as the Earth kingdom of Omashu, where he developed a lasting friendship with the good-natured but eccentric prince Bumi and a young kid from Fire Nation named Kuzon, with whom he went searching for a dragon in the mountains and saved a dragon egg from poachers
Throughout his years of practicing air bending Aang was always able to excel at any new bending moves he learned; at the age of six, he was a better airbender than children twice his age, and by the age of ten, Aang had proven himself to be better than his own teachers & by the time he reached 12 he earned his airbending tattoos and the status of an airbending master, making him the youngest airbending master in Air Nomad history at the time, unaware that this surprising skill would show the sign of something that will change his life forever.
Learning of his destiny[]
Aang's Past Life With Monk Gyatso 🌪 - Full Scene - Avatar- The Last Airbender
Aang discovering he's the new incarnation of the Avatar.
One fateful day, while he was teaching some of the other kids a new move he invented called the air scooter, Aang was summoned by the elder monks of the Air Temples where they reveal some surprising news to him, which is that he is the newest incarnation of the Avatar: a special being that is the host of the spirit of Light Raava that is capable of bending all the four elements of water, earth, fire, & air. When he learns of this Aang reacts in a confused manner as he doesn't think he was the one, but the monks confirm these suspicions by showing him the 4 toys he picked years ago, which they revealed because they all felt familiar to him because they all belonged to avatars prior to him, when he asked why would they tell him now, the monks say that they fear "storm clouds are brewing", a fact helped with the unknown passing of his previous life as Roku, and that he must be prepared to be the Avatar now.
Despite initially not getting the pressure of the world in his hands too out of hand for him, after that day Aang's normal life was never the same for him anymore as his status as both theirs & the spirit world's future bridge made the other children refuse to play with him anymore, and he came to spend more time practicing airbending with the monks. Fortunately Gyatso was the only one to still treat him as just a kid but on one more fateful day, believing that Gyatso would hinder Aang's training, the other elder monks decided to send Aang away to the Eastern Air Temple to receive proper training.

Aang & his buddy frozen in Ice
Unaware to either of them he secretly overheard everything and crushed by this, a heartbroken & frightened Aang refuses to accept his destiny as the Avatar and that very night, he sneaks out of the temple flies away with Appa, but not before leaving a note for Gyatso on where he's going. However, as he & Appa are flying over the ocean heading to the south pole, they're caught up in a terrible storm, and gets knocked deep underwater with his bison, but as he is sinking he unconsciously enters the Avatar state: a defense mechanism that channels the powers of all previous avatars, making him water-bend that freezing Appa and himself to save them from drowning, but it also lands them in the bottom of the ocean.
As he lay sleeping in his icy cocoon, any form of rescue team coming to rescue him was all just a dream inside Aang's head because the monks fear of a "storm" building up is all true, because in secret Sozin, the ruler of the advancing Fire nation at the time, was so proud of his empire's prosperity that he decided to expand it. With no one powerful enough to stand in his way Sozin lead his nation across the world on a global-sized conquest with the other three nations too divided to mount a successful counterattack against them, and all Aang could do inside his ice ball to do nothing but hope that someone will come and rescue him.

Meeting new friends/family[]
Katara Discovers Aang in an Iceberg! w- Sokka & Appa - Avatar- The Last Airbender
1 whole century later Aang, still remaining just 12 years old due to the enchanted ice, is finally freed from his icy prison by two teenage siblings from the Southern Water Tribe - Katara, a waterbender, and her brother, Sokka - and he briefly falls down unconscious before waking up in the girl's arms, now awake Aang's first thought upon being freed from the iceberg was to ask his liberator, Katara, to go penguin sledding. The newly formed trio (but secretly kept his identity as the avatar a secret) later travel on Appa to Katara and Sokka's village of Wolf Cove, where Aang was met with bewildered stares from the natives, who had never seen an airbender before.

However his stay at Wolf Cove is soon brought to a stop when he and Katara go off and do some exploring outside the village where the pair accidentally stumbles upon an abandoned Fire Nation ship & they set of it's signal flare, and possibly alerting some Fire Nation ships attention to the village, Aang is banished despite Katara's objections. Fortunately he is soon brought back to save the village when it is attacked by a ship under command of the grumpy (& banished) scarred prince of the nation Zuko whose on a hunt for his head, despite successfully defending himself with airbending, Aang sees his duel with Zuko is threatening the village's safety & to protect them, he agrees to surrender.

Aang and his new friends escaping from Zuko's ship.
Though once he was on Zuko's ship and alone with just a few guards, Aang easily frees himself and races to escape, but is soon faced once again a rage-filled Zuko who relentlessly hunts him until they get to the upper deck, when the prince blasted Aang from his ship with firebending, the young airbender fell into the ocean where he entered the Avatar State once again. Reemerging from the water, Aang trapps Zuko's ship in ice before passing out again however, Sokka (who was initially hostile towards him but changed his mind for his sister's sake) and Katara arrive on Appa, rescue him and escape from the prince's sight, though once they did Aang expresses his reluctance towards being the Avatar, and the group sets a course for the North Pole so that he and Katara can learn waterbending together to begin their journey of bringing peace to the world, all the while making a few stops along the way.
Finding out a devastating truth[]

Aang as he returns (to what's left) of his home.
After their first night of traveling together, Aang decides to check upon the Southern Air Temple, believing that his people were still safe despite the belief of the people of the Southern Water Tribe that the airbenders had become extinct during the war time, when they finally arrived at the Southern Air Temple, the group found it mostly empty and partially ruined. Regardless, Aang initially continued to hold the belief that his people were safe, and began to show Sokka and Katara around in his old home as he demonstrated several locations, though was often surprised and saddened to see them in ruins, but he still maintained hope that some Air Nomads were certainly still around.

Aang eventually led his group into the air temple sanctuary, as Gyatso had previously told him that he would find an ally there, but they instead find the statues of past Avatars, with Aang instinctively recognizing Avatar Roku's statue. The group was interrupted by the appearance of a local winged lemur; the Avatar chased him to make friends with him. This continued until the boy came across Gyatso's skeleton at the Altar of Remembrance, surrounded by the corpses of Fire Army soldiers. Aang thus learns the truth: The year he vanished, Sozin had taken advantage of the firebending-enhancing powers of a mystical comet to launch a war on the three other nations, and to his utter shock and disbelief, the Fire Nation's opening gambit had been a genocidal assault on the Air Nomads in an attempt to kill the latest incarnation of the Avatar Spirit and all four air temples were stormed and even though they fought against the invaders, leaving many firebender corpses in their wake, the ambushed monks were slaughtered, truly making him the last known airbender in existence.

In this moment of great grief and rage, a heartbroken Aang once again entered the Avatar State, however before any more damage could be done, Katara was able to calm him down, and assured him that she and her brother would be his family from then on. The visit at the Southern Air Temple also had another positive side: The winged lemur had decided to stay by Aang's side, and thus became his new companion who he named Momo. Having seen what had happened to his home and nation, Aang finally realized that the future of the four nations rested in his hands. It was his duty to defeat the Fire Nation and restore peace and harmony to the world. To achieve this, Aang and his new friends and pets set off on a quest to find and learn from master benders, while evading capture by the Fire Nation.
Stop at Kyoshi Island[]

Aang showing off his airbending skills to Kyoshi Island
Even though he gradually began coming to terms with his heavy responsibility as the Avatar in the middle of a war, this doesn't stop Aang from encouraging Sokka and Katara to make several detours. During the first of these side-trips, they landed on Kyoshi Island, named after one of his incarnations. There, they were captured by the Kyoshi Warriors and brought to one of the island's villages. The inhabitants had kept out of the war for the past one hundred years and thus were xenophobic to outsiders. The village elder, Oyaji, and the warrior Suki believed they were Fire Nation spies and were about to throw them to the unagi, until Aang proved he was the Avatar and they became honored guests in the village. However, Aang's new celebrity status went to his head, causing him to entertain and impress a group of fan girls, much to Katara's dismay.

When Prince Zuko subsequently arrived and raided Kyoshi Island, seeking to capture the Avatar, Aang realized that by staying too long, he had endangered the people. Therefore, he escaped with Katara and Sokka, knowing Zuko would follow him and leave the island. Before leaving, however, Aang jumps off of Appa and hops onto the unagi, controlling the creature to spray water over the burning houses, once all the fire is put out, Aang leaps into the air and is caught by Appa and the three promptly fly away into the sunset as they continue heading to the North Pole.

However, the group discovered that any suspicious people were stopped at the city gate; Aang thus disguised himself as elderly man to gain access. Once inside the city, his cover was almost blown by the cabbage merchant before the latter could be distracted. Aang then led his friends to take a joy ride in the Omashu delivery system, only to discover their path blocked by a hungry guard. By fulfilling a series of minor errands (and beating up a group of thugs), Team Avatar was able to acquire lunch for the guard and bribe him to let them through. After again chasing off some criminals at the delivery system station, Aang led his friends onto the slide.
Aang vs. Bumi 💥 - Full Scene - Avatar- The Last Airbender-2
Aang facing his old friend in a duel.
After their destructive roller coaster ride, they were arrested for damages suffered by the cabbage merchant. Team Avatar was taken before the king. The old, seemingly crazy, king tricked Aang into revealing he was an airbender and thus the Avatar, and had the trio taken to a refurbished prison chamber. Aang woke up to find out that the king had encased Katara and Sokka in a strange mineral called "creeping crystal", and would only free them if he passed three tests. He passed the challenges, but the king had one last challenge for him: to guess his name. Figuring out the link between his seemingly random challenges was that he had to think outside the box, Aang identified the king to be his old friend Bumi, who had said something similar to him a hundred years prior. Having his friends freed as promised, Aang was told by Bumi that in order to end the war, he must learn all the bending arts and defeat the Fire Lord himself, but before the team leave the city, Aang and Bumi ride the Omashu mail system one last time for old time's sake.
The first jailbreak[]

Aang & the others meeting Haru.
Following their adventure at Omashu, Aang and his friends continued their journey to the North, at one break they stopped to make camp in a forest where they discovered a training earthbender named Haru, and when they tried to greet him, he quickly fled much to the team's confusion. Not long after, the group arrived at a Fire Nation-occupied mining village and while there, they again met Haru in a shop belonging to his family, as he had fled because earthbending was forbidden by the local Fire Army garrison, and thus he had to train in secret. Haru's mother offered Team Avatar to spend the night at their house's stable.

Aang & his gang preparing for a rescue.
However the next day, Haru's worried mother informed them of her son's had been arrested as yesterday he helped an old man using his earthbending, only for the same man to turn him in, as Katara felt especially responsible for Haru's arrest due to inspiring him to use his abilities to help others, the team resolved to free him. To do so, the friends devised a strategy to fool the local Fire Army troops into thinking that Katara was also an earthbender. Thus, the waterbender was also arrested and brought to the prison rig where Haru is being kept, while Aang and Sokka covertly follow the brig she was riding on Appa.

Aang & co. leading a prison break.
By the time they make it to the prison, the two meet Katara on the prison rig where they discuss how to get all the earth benders out, the group agreed to free not only Haru but all prisoners. To do so, Aang, thanks to a plan from Sokka, sneaks into the rig's industrial areas to sabotage the local vents and funnel coal into the prisoner quarters. As he did so, the Avatar had to overpower some prison guards, including the prison's cowardly warden, ultimately, the plan proved to be a success and the earthbenders –including Haru and his father Tyro– use the coal to bend and escape the rig, as well as inspiring them all to fight back against the fire nation garrisons and take back their villages.
First contact with the Spirits[]
As Team Avatar continued its journey across the world, they came across a scorched forest that had been destroyed by the Fire Army, they also meet an elder who asked them to help his home, Senlin Village, which was tormented by an angry spirit. Aang felt responsible, and thus ventured to the settlement where he tried to negotiate with the spirit. However, the creature refused to listen, caused further destruction and abducted Sokka. The young Avatar chased after his friend, and unknowingly entered the Spirit World. There he was contacted by Avatar Roku's dragon, Fang, who led him in his spiritual state to Roku's temple on Crescent Island.
Aang Vs The Spirit Bear The Last AirBender
Aang comforting hist 1st spirit.
By showing Aang visions of a fiery comet and beams of light shining toward Roku's statue, Aang realized he could talk with his previous incarnation during the winter solstice. He also learned that the angry spirit, Hei Bai, had begun to attack Senlin Village due to destruction of his forest. With this information he then returned to the mortal world at Senlin Village and attempted to mediate with Hei Bai in the next night and this time, he managed to pacify the spirit by pointing out that the forest was already regrowing, which allowed the spirit to calm down and return Sokka and other kidnapped villagers.
First meeting with Roku[]
But right after getting a Spirit to calm down, Aang was told by Roku to subsequently journey toward Crescent Island in the Fire Nation as Roku has some urgent news to tell Aang, itching to know what it is he and his friends pass through a Fire Navy blockade and entered the Fire Nation, journeying to the Avatar's temple. However, they found that the temple's guardians, the Fire Sages, were instead hostile to the Avatar, having given their loyalty to the Fire Lord and thus begin attacking him, luckily with the help of the one sage still loyal to the Avatar, Shyu, Aang manages to enter the inner chamber of the temple just as the solstice begins.

Roku's warning to Aang.
Once the young airbender is locked inside Avatar Roku, who manifests himself when light from the solstice sun struck his statue, warns Aang of Sozin's Comet, the same comet that returned once every one hundred years and greatly increased a firebender's power which allowed him to start the war. When Aang asks what does it mean, Roku tells is that the comet's due to return at the end of summer, and if Aang doesn't defeat the current Fire Lord before it arrives, the Fire Nation will have truly conquered the world and the Avatar would be unable to restore balance to the world.
Hearing this, Aang despaired that he had not learned the other bending arts and would not be unable to complete his training before the comet's arrival, but Roku assured him that he would succeed, as his previous incarnations had done before. Upon the end of the solstice, Roku helped Aang in confronting the invading soldiers who were stationed outside the sanctuary, as he was able to manifest himself as his previous incarnation, who proceeded to destroy the temple completely as Aang and the team were later able to escape safely.

Katara struggles to learn the techniques in the scroll, while Aang picks them up quickly, further frustrating Katara. Meanwhile, Zuko runs into the pirates and agrees to help them find the scroll, and subsequently Aang. Jet invites the team back to their vast treehouse hideout, where the group plots out its attacks. Jet and Katara form an instant bond, but Sokka has suspicions about him, which leads the young rebel to tempt Sokka with missions. His plan fails, however, with Sokka becoming increasingly concerned about Jet's motives and true objectives after he attacks a harmless old man simply due to him being from the Fire Nation. Sokka is unable to convince Aang and Katara to believe his concerns, while Jet enlists them to help him "save" a nearby Earth Kingdom town by filling up the reservoir.
That night Sokka follows Jet and discovers his real intent is to drown the village, sacrificing the lives of innocent civilians to destroy the Fire Nation garrison stationed there. The next day, after filling the reservoir faster than expected, Aang and Katara learn of Jet's true plan. After a skirmish Katara manages to freeze Jet to a tree but she and Aang are unable to prevent the reservoir from being destroyed, washing away the town. Sokka arrives on Appa, revealing he managed to evacuate the town, Earth and Fire citizens alike, with the help of the old man in time to thwart Jet's plot, before they and his own team leave to go off on their own separate ways.
A night from the Storm[]

Aang saving a fisherman's life.
Continuing on to the north, Aang has a strange dream about his past that clearly troubled him, but did not tell the others. It started happily with Aang, Katara and Sokka unrealistically flying through the skies, but suddenly Aang was alone, trapped in a storm and plunged into the sea. Stopping by a port town Aang, Katara and Sokka stop by a market, but realize they were out of food and money, during which they run into a fisherman, who hired Sokka, but when he found out that Aang was the Avatar, he yelled at him, saying that "he turned his back on the world." Aang became upset and flew away into a cave. Katara reprimanded the fisherman for his harsh words and went after Aang as a horrible storm began brewing.
After lighting up a fire, a depressed Aang starts telling the story of his past to Katara, beginning with the day the monks revealed to him he was the Avatar, scared of being burdened with extra training exercises and ostracized from his friends, Aang became confused and afraid; so when he learned that the monks were planning to separate him from his guardian, Gyatso, he decided to run away. Aang was caught in a horrible storm, and as he was about to drown, the Avatar Spirit inside him formed an air pocket, saving himself and Appa, but freezing them inside for the next one hundred years. Aang suffered terrible guilt over abandoning the world, but Katara convinced him that "it was meant to be", and he "gives people hope".
As the storm reached its height, becoming a typhoon, the wife of the old fisherman arrived at the cave, beckoning for the Avatar's help. She explained that her husband and Sokka should have returned from their fishing expedition and must have become caught out at sea. Aang and Katara flew out on Appa and came upon the fishing boat that was capsized. They were able to safely rescue Sokka and the old man and return them to the cave. Aang later told Katara that he was ready to move on from the past and look toward a brighter future.
Fighting alongside a "Blue Spirit"[]
Once the storm passes by Aang and the others fly to an old abandoned Earth Kingdom fortress, but Sokka had fallen ill due to his exposure to the storm, there Aang learned of a herbalist who lived at the top of a nearby mountain and made plans to travel there to find a cure, but when Katara quickly grew sick herself, Aang was forced to travel to the herbalist alone. Using his airbending abilities to speed his pace down the mountainside, after a frustrating meeting with the herbalist, Aang learns that his friends must suck on the frozen bodies of hibernating wood frogs to get better, which could be found on the bottoms of riverbeds.

Aang brought to a Fire Nation Fortress.
However, he made little progress toward his destination before encountering the Fire Nation's best marksman the Yuyan Archers, who wasted little time in pinning his boots to the ground with arrows, Aang airbent to defend himself from the succeeding shots, freed his legs, and jumped off of the mountain into the thick forest below. Aang ran out of the woods, and unexpectedly ended up in a murky, partially-frozen river. He found the frozen frogs he had been looking for, and even while avoiding the Yuyans' arrows, managed to scoop several of the amphibians into his clothing. However, several arrows caught the sleeve of his left and right arm and pinned it to an overturned tree before a net was shot over him.

Afterwards he is brought to a stronghold where he is taunted by Zuko's rival for his capture, the prideful commander-turned-admiral Zhao, who only sees his capture as his means of achieving more glory for himself, who intends to keep him imprisoned until he is brought before the capital of the Fire Nation to ensure he doesn't do anything to disrupt their plans. But just as it looked like he was gonna be chained for good, Aang finds himself being rescued by a mysterious swordsman in a blue mask and together, they best Zhao's security & escape, but as they did Aang discovers that his rescuer is none other than Zuko, as even though it's nation's victory, the reason he's so hung up on capturing him is because his heartless father Ozai ordered him do it because one little speaking out in a war-room meeting lead to him challenging him to a fire duel called an Agni Kai & because Zuko only wanted was to make him proud, refused to fight which led to him getting his terrible scar & banishment, never to return until he can "restore his honor".
Do you think we could have been friends too?
Aang with his "savior".
Despite them being enemies and all the danger he put him and the ones he attacked to get to him, Aang took the opportunity to carry him to safety and rest up for the night in the forest, the following morning, Aang spoke nostalgically of his friends during his time with Kuzon being chief among them, and once he's done he asked Zuko if, under different circumstances, they too could have been friends. After hearing this question, Zuko paused for a brief moment before responding to this... by launching a fire blast, which Aang easily avoided before leaping through the trees, regardless of this encounter Aang manages to get a new batch of frozen frogs and gives them to his pals, allowing them to feel a lot better.
A love problem... & village rescue[]

Aang seeing Katara in a new light.
After feeling a lot better and once again back on the road to the North Pole, the group stops by a lake where Aang takes the time to make Katara a replacement necklace which she lost to Zuko, he saw her in a whole new light, developing a strong crush on her. Loud noises drew the group to a spot in the wooded area where an elderly man was being attacked by a vicious platypus bear. Despite the dire circumstances, however, the man remained oddly calm. After Appa managed to fend off the bear, the man told them he came from a nearby village where a fortuneteller, Aunt Wu, lived. The group decided to travel to the village to have their fortunes told, much to Sokka's dismay.
While there, Aang tried repeatedly to draw Katara's attention, even taking advice from Sokka on how to approach her. Sokka instructed Aang to act aloof, as though he did not really care. This behavior, however, was not successful in impressing Katara, much to Aang's disappointment. He instead opted to retrieve a rare panda lily flower for her on the rim of the Makapu volcano which led to his discovery of the volcano ready to erupt and destroy the village.

After they manage to convince the town, Aang and everyone dig a trench to channel the oncoming lava to the river and some impressive displays of airbending power, Aang managed to successfully quell the volcano's fury and save the village, as well as making Katara see him in a new light as well.
Later once they finish the Volcano problem, Aang is given a brand new lesson by Aunt Wu, just as he molded the clouds to his own design, it is his responsibility to actively shape his own destiny. With that, the trio get a few supplies for themselves and leave the village to continue their northern journey.

Bato had been injured in battle and temporarily left behind by the rest of the Water Tribe soldiers while he heals. While they reminisce about the old days, Aang feels left out. A messenger arrives with a message from Katara and Sokka's father for Bato, with instructions to find him. Aang intercepts it and keeps it to himself, fearing Katara and Sokka will abandon him. He later comes clean about the message, but Sokka, furious at Aang for keeping it from them, is insistent on leaving to find his father, with Katara joining him.
However, the two realized that Aang was their family and they were needed by him on his journey north and march back to rejoin him, but on the way back they're attacked by Zuko with a tracking animal called a Shirshu owned by a bounty hunter named June. Aang soon came to their rescue, leading them to a nearby town and engaging in an intense battle with Zuko and June, ultimately defeating him as the three made up, and as a bonus Aang was able to get Katara's necklace from Zuko's grasp, returning it to her and making a grateful girl kiss him on the cheek, causing him to blush and twiddle his thumbs as they continue to fly back to the North.
First Lesson in Firebending[]
Roku tells off Jeong Jeong -Avatar - The Deserter-
Aang meets his first firebending teacher
Following their latest escape from Zuko, Aang and his friends decided to go to a cultural festival in a Fire Nation occupied town so that Aang could witness some firebending, ensuring their safety from attack with disguises, although they acquired masks soon after their arrival. Regardless, it was discovered that Aang was the Avatar after he was forced to "save" Katara from a dragon of fire by using his airbending, and the three friends quickly attempted to escape from Fire Nation soldiers. Their escape was aided greatly by a man named Chey, who told them of a firebender and deserter named Jeong Jeong. Chey took them to where he's camping and after the spirit of Avatar Roku appeared to Jeong Jeong and persuaded him to be Aang's mentor, he reluctantly agreed to teach Aang firebending.

Aang's first day of firebending.
The following morning Jeong Jeong starts teaching Aang slowly, focusing exclusively on breathing exercises, but the young Avatar desired to learn more advanced firebending techniques. Jeong Jeong was greatly angered with Aang's lack of discipline, telling Aang vehemently that without control, firebending would bring nothing but unnecessary destruction, using a former student of his who displayed similar impatience and lack of discipline as an example. Aang quickly apologized and said that he was ready to learn Jeong Jeong's way. Jeong Jeong proceeded to teach Aang to use real fire, much to Aang's enthusiasm. However, his enthusiasm was quickly deflated when Jeong Jeong only assigned him the simple task of preventing a leaf from being completely burned. Jeong Jeong soon left to other matters, and Aang, still feeling restricted, took his exercise to the next step and created fire.
Aang tries firebending for the first time
Aang accidentally burning Katara.
Unfortunately, an overexcited Aang played around with it for a little while despite Katara insisted that he be careful, which ended with him accidentally burn Katara's hands when he attempted to imitate a move he saw at the festival, leading her to run away crying, and Sokka became enraged as a result and furiously tackled him. Jeong Jeong, having returned, followed Katara into the forest. However, during this time, Admiral Zhao, who was revealed to be the former student of Jeong Jeong, and his men located the camp, and in turn battled Jeong Jeong, although the master's attempt was half-hearted.

Aang, completely guilty for this hid away in Jeong Jeong's hut in order to reflect over his error, was urged by Katara to aid Jeong Jeong. Although Aang felt terribly guilty and promised to never firebend again, Katara's revelation of her healing restored his battle spirit. With a fiery display, Jeong Jeong and his men made their escape, while Aang confronted Zhao. Recalling Jeong Jeong's lesson of control, Aang provoked the firebending master, goading him into destroying his own ships leading Zhao to only watch as his ships burned and sank into the river as Aang escaped, with this act, Aang demonstrated that some firebenders had little self-control and Jeong Jeong gone, the three resumed their journey and leave the forest.
Battle of the Northern air temple[]
Aang Meets The Mechanist - Full Scene - Avatar- The Last Airbender
Aang meeting the Mechanist
After the forest battle and continuing to fly across the land to the North, The gang hears a rumor that people who travel in the air reside at the Northern Air Temple, making Aang think there were some survivors of Sozin's genocide. He is disappointed to learn that the "flying" people are not true airbenders, but just people who have learned how to use gliders on the strong air currents around the temple. Aang is further saddened that the current residents have remodeled the temple extensively, often knocking through walls and ornate Air Nomad architecture to accommodate pipes which propel their rudimentary experiments with steam pressure.
Teo, a young paraplegic, inspires Aang to open the one remaining area of the temple left untouched, the Air Temple sanctuary. Aang is shocked to see the "pristine" room is in fact stocked with dozens of inventions with Fire Nation insignias on them. When the Fire Nation comes to collect their latest invention, Aang tells them to leave, only to stand together as The Fire Nation launches an attack against the temple, but Aang and the villagers manage to successfully defend their ground, Afterward, Aang stated his approval of the villagers having settled there as they continue flying to the North, unaware that the army was able to find the mechanist's newest invention, a war balloon, which would have devastating consequences much later.
Arriving at the North Pole[]
Welcome to the Northern water tribe (Avatar the last Airbender)
Aang & co. finally arriving at the North.
Eventually after flying across the ocean for two days straight, the three of them finally arrive at the Northern Water Tribe where the Tribe's chief welcomed Sokka and Katara as family from the Southern Tribe, and Aang was honored as a special guest, as part of the celebration Aang and Katara were delighted to see the waterbending master, Pakku, and his students performing elaborate and elegant waterbending moves for entertainment, especially. After the waterbending performance was over, Aang was introduced to Master Pakku. Aang was looking forward to Katara and himself learning waterbending, after a few days rest, though Pakku was unimpressed with his work ethic, telling Aang that he would receive no special treatment just because he was destined to save the world & said if he was told that if he was interested in learning waterbending, he would be ready at sunrise.

Aang & Katara facing Master Pakku over tradition.
However the next day as they approached the palace, Aang & Katara expressed her joy at being able to learn from a real master, only to be greatly horrified to learn from Master Pakku that it was forbidden for women to learn waterbending for combat and advised her to go to the healing huts and learn from another waterbender to use her bending for healing only. Although Aang initially refused to learn from Master Pakku as he to is outraged at the unfairness, Katara urged him to return, saying that he could not risk his training for her, leading Aang to reluctantly begin learning his waterbending without her this time.

Aang & Katara's night time training.
Despite becoming very skilled in hiswaterbending, Aang still shows discomfort in learning waterbending without Katara, and when the gang meet up in their living quarters to vent the frustrations they're having here Sokka, who's having a hard time trying to woo a new girl he likes: the chief's daughter Yue, suggests Aang teaches what he's learned to his sister. So that following night, to ensure they don't get caught by anyone, Aang and Katara begin their waterbending training, but unfortunately, Master Pakku catches them & is angered that Aang had disrespected him, his teachings, and his entire culture, the young Avatar hastily apologizes but a stubborn Pakku refuses to teach Aang anymore before leaving.

Aang after an angry Katara wants Pakku to fight her.
Not wanting to mess with her crush's quest just because he wanted to help her, Katara urges the Chief to make Pakku change his mind, fortunately Master Pakku agreed to continue training Aang... on the condition that Katara swallow her pride and apologize to him. However Katara, angered by his pomposity and condescending attitude as well as not wanting to let the Tribe's stupid rules get the better of her, does none of it & instead challenges him to a fight and will be waiting for her outside, despite a worried Aang trying to convince otherwise.

Aang watching's Katara's fight.
A little while later as she prepares for her showdown, Aang assures her she doesn't have to fight Pakku for him, but the southern waterbender assures it's not as it is simply her knocking some sense into the stubborn old man, something only pushes to her breaking point when Pakku once again dismisses her and strikes him in the back, making old man finally grant Katara her wish as Aang & some others watch. Though after some intense waterbending actions, what really set Pakku straight is when he takes notice of Katara's pendant, given to her by her mother and her grandmother before her, making him realize that Katara's Gran-Gran is his ex-fiancée Kanna, who also could not tolerate the Northern Water Tribe's customs and left to start a new life with the Southern Tribe.

Aang & Katara finally getting their wish.
In the end by the following morning, even this didn't completely tone down his grumpy attitude or even his harsh training methods, Master Pakku has finally decided to make things right with what he's done to his fiancee's family and finally allows both Aang and Katara to be his students, much to both their happiness. Little do they know is that while all this is happening, Zhao has put all the pieces together on where they were going and prepares a colossal storm to go capture him & bring the water tribe down, with Zuko secretly coming along.
The Great North Pole Siege[]

Aang & everyone realizing the Fire Nation is coming.
After sometime training with both Katara and Pakku, Aang comes to see tons of black soot coming down upon them which makes them all realize one thing: a fire nation armada is coming this way and there are a lot of them on the way Northern Water Tribe prepared to defend itself from invasion, and Sokka volunteered for a dangerous mission in which several warriors would be forced to infiltrate the Fire Nation fleet. As the walls of the prestigious city began to fall, Aang felt duty bound to prevent the same fate that befell the Air Nomads and the Southern Water Tribe and riding out to the fleet on Appa, he managed to successfully overtake several battleships, but as the dusk approached, however, he came to the realization that his efforts hardly thwarted the Fire Nation's advance and he retreated in despair as they and the fire fleet rest up for the night.

A meditating Aang being captured by Zuko.
That very night while they continue preparations, Princess Yue related the origins of the Water Tribe and its power, leading Aang to realize that if he could enter the Spirit World and meet with the Moon and Ocean Spirits, perhaps they could help him defeat the Fire Nation. Inspired by this Yue took Katara and Aang to a hidden oasis which was the spiritual center of the North Pole & after observing the two koi fish in the oasis, which resembled yin and yang, Aang entered a trance and crossed over into the Spirit World, but as this happens a disguised Zuko manages to sneak past both armada and the Northern defenses and followed them and despite Katara's newfound skillset, the moment daybreak begins Zuko beats him & takes the Avatar's unconscious body before escaping the city.

In the Spirit World, Aang hurriedly sought out the Moon and Ocean Spirits, receiving only minimal guidance from a begrudging baboon spirit who urged him to chase a nearby firefly which proved to be anything but successful, fortunately Aang once again comes in contact with Avatar Roku, who advises him to see Koh, one of the oldest spirits in existence, but before parting, Roku warned Aang to show no emotion while speaking with Koh, as the spirit would otherwise steal his face. Aang eventually arrives at Koh's lair where he questioned the spirit and learned that the white and black koi he had seen swimming in the oasis were the Moon and Ocean Spirits, Tui & La respectively, and that they were in danger, returning to the physical world & with Hei Bai's help, Aang flies to where Zuko took his body (where he was busy venting his frustrations throughout his life, chief among them being his "born lucky" sister) and manages to escape just in time for his friends to rescue him, but despite his team's objections, Aang convinces them to bring a knocked-out Zuko along.

But despite heeding everyone's demands a furious Zhao, not willing to let this "glory" be taken away from him, burns the spirit alive before cowardly fleeing an angry Iroh, but just as it seemed hopeless, Aang suddenly entered the Avatar State and fused with the Ocean Spirit into a giant, water-based creature and together they massacred the Fire Nation troops and annihilated the fleet, forcing a hasty retreat of the enemy before killing Zhao for his crimes.

Aang & co. after successfully saving the North & the balance.
As for the fate of the moon Yue, who had been imbued with life by the Moon Spirit as an infant, willingly sacrificed herself (just not before saying one last goodbye and giving a kiss to Sokka) to revive Tui and restore the moon's power and thus became the new Moon Spirit and with the moon reinstated, Aang exited the Avatar State and was returned safely to the Northern tribe. With the Fire navy badly beaten following their failed fight, Aang, Katara, and Sokka reunite with triumph as they overlook the Northern tribe and the colossal victory over the fire nation they had just won.

But when the Avatar points out he only enters the State when in danger, the crazy general decides to do just that and has his men attack him to do it, which finally works when he decides to strike Katara, but as he is in the State Roku appears before him & tells him it's flaws: It is a defense mechanism that while it gives the power of every prior Avatar incarnation, being killed in it will permanently destroy the reincarnation cycle just as he returns to his body & in Katara's arms, right after he hoped she'd never see him like that again & after Sokka knocks Fong out, the group heads off the Omashu themselves.

Aang tried to emulate her, but ended up hitting the rock with airbending and propelling himself backward. Aang questioned his inability to move the rock while in his correct stance. He tried to find an alternate solution, but Toph explained that such creative thinking was the problem, as earthbending required a head-on approach. She proceeded to train Aang through several activities involving the earth with the Avatar gradually improving. Toph decided to teach Aang how to stop an oncoming rock. She blindfolded him, thereby urging him to sense the vibrations in the earth as she did, and rolled a boulder down a steep hill toward him. Upon entering the main library they come face-to-face with Wan Shi Tong himself, the spirit initially did not trust them, disliking the fact that humans use knowledge only to gain an advantage over other humans after a scuffle with the last human (Zhao) he allowed in, and believed the group only wanted to get information to help them defeat their enemies. Though there was truth to the spirit's accusation, Aang and his friends were able to convince him otherwise. After going through a bunch of Scrolls (one of them Aang finds about giant creatures called Lion-Turtles), Sokka found a burned paper that mentioned "the darkest day in Fire Nation history" which had a date but no other information. It also turned out that Zhao, before leaving, destroyed every other bit of information about the Fire Nation, probably to prevent exactly what Sokka and the others were trying to do, however, a fox spirit finds the group and leads them to a room dedicated to astronomy where a date could be entered on a stone wheel, which showed the sky on that particular date; when Sokka entered the date of "the darkest day", it showed a solar eclipse occurring, making the group realize that solar eclipses must take away firebending the same way lunar eclipses affect waterbending, making them realize they could use this information to plan an attack on the Fire Nation.

As they continued, Than fell when the ground underneath him crumbled and while Toph managed to save him, the falling rocks drew the attention of the patrol ship, which launched a fireball at them. Following the intense attack, the group stopped for the night at an outcropping rock site, but Aang was one of the only ones who couldn't bring himself to sleep, when she noticed this Katara tried telling him that it was okay for him to miss his sky bison and asked why he was acting so distant, which makes the young Avatar remind her that he was so upset about losing Appa that he could not control himself and that he hated feeling like that, Katara tried reasoning with him and told him that he was not letting himself feel anything now and that sometimes it hurts to car and tried to get Aang to promise that he would not stop caring about Appa and offered him a hug only for him to decline and walk away, leaving Katara disappointed.

Aang battling the pass' namesake.
The following morning, Aang and his company continue traveling to Ba Sing Se but as they make it to the other side, they all encounter a colossal setback on the journey there: most of the bridge on the other side has been brought down underwater, but luckily since they have Katara with them they all get behind her as she creates a giant air bubble for them all and they all continue their journey across it down the water. However, they only manage to make it halfway across the path when they find something giant in the water, and when Toph rises up the ledge in the water, they all find themselves attacked by a giant hungry sea serpent (hence how the dangerous pass got it's name), while he and Katara, the latter first makes an ice bridge so everyone else can get to the other side and together, Aang and Katara managed to drive off the serpent by using the currents to slam it into the cliff and making it swim away.
Avatar The Last Airbender- The Serpent's Pass - Sokka and Suki Kiss - Aang Arrives At The Wall
Aang discovering something big.
With the latest problem now out of the way, Aang and everyone else finally make it to the other side of Serpent's pass with nothing but the city's giant walls just on the horizon, however just before they march on over to the city Ying immediately feels that the baby is coming now, luckily for them Katara, who had had experience in birthing children, quickly took charge, despite having Sokka pass out like an old lady in the process. The baby, a girl, was born with no complications, thanks to her and Aang, seeing the family coming together, renewed his hope, which was what the family decided to name the baby. Aang chose to go on ahead of the group to find Appa, but before he went, he told Katara how he felt about her, making her let a few tears run down her cheeks, and she and Aang embraced in a hug before he and Momo left to look for Appa, but just as he makes it to the wall he makes a horrifying discovery on what exactly the Fire Nation was building: a colossal drill heading straight for the wall, making him postpone his search so he can rescue Ba Sing Se first.
The scuffle atop the drill[]

Aang & co. seeing the danger.
Quickly returning to the group and telling them of the danger, Aang and everyone carry themselves to the top of the wall so they can give the family a much-needed new home, after stating his identity as the Avatar, Aang & co. are brought before the general in charge of the wall defenses. Though when he is brought before the man, a newly-appointed warrior named Sung, he brushes off his offer to help them as he is still greatly confident on his wall's defense and the men he already has, of course when it is revealed that Azula is placed in charge of the conquest and has Mai & Ty-Lee bring his men down, the general is immediately reduced to a frantic wreck and allows Aang and his friends to do their thing.

Aang & co. learning of the coming attack.
Thinking quickly, Sokka gets the idea of destroying the drill from the inside by attacking its pressure points, sneaking down into the battlefield while Toph tries her best to slow it down from the outside, Aang, Katara and Sokka sneaks inside to sabotage the drill, after ambushing an engineer and finding a set of blueprints, the group figure out that they simply need to cut through the braces in the that hold the machine. Heading to where the main braces are located Aang & Katara begin cutting them apart waterbending. Unfortunately after long and exhausting work, Katara and Aang only manage to cut through just one brace and knowing that they will never destroy the drill in time at this rate, Aang remembers what Toph had been teaching him and suggested they only cut partway through the braces beofre delivering a final blow at the top.

With this new plan the waterbending pair then get set to work with chopping down enough braces when it's ready to finally burst, but just as they decided that they had cut through enough braces to go to the top, the group is once again outed in the drill and are attacked by Azula, Mai and Ty Lee. Deciding to split up, Sokka and Katara tried to leave the drill while Aang went to deliver the final blow. When he got to the top, he found the Earth Kingdom soldiers dropping boulders on the drill and him. After cutting a wedge in the metal with waterbending, he shaped one of the boulders into a spike. Just as he was finished carving the wedge, he was attacked by Azula, resulting a furious duel, during which Aang was briefly knocked unconscious and almost fell off the drill, but he managed to run part way up the wall and destroyed the war machine, splattering the wall and the spectators atop it as they all celebrate their victory, after reuniting with the others atop the wall, Aang and co. finally head into the city to look for Appa, all the while ignoring Sokka's suggestion that they all start calling themselves "Team Avatar" for better recognition, much to the annoyance of them all.

While they do that though Joo Dee, always forcing them to keep their mouths shut about mentioning things outside the city, but after returning to their house, they learn from their neighbor that everyone is too scared because the Dai Li — elite guards who ensured the safety of Ba Sing Se's culture and society - is secretly watching everything and advises them to keep away from them.

After Katara & Toph manage to sneak past the security, Aang and Sokka were able to infiltrate the palace themselves, albeit disguised as servants instead.

Upon sneaking inside the main hall of the festivities, even though he did his best to try and keep his identity a secret to all the nobles attending, Aang was soon exposed as the Avatar, but he quickly smoothed things over with a display of his abilities to entertain the audience. When the Earth King arrived, Aang rushed over eagerly to greet him, but was confronted by Long Feng, the Grand Secretariat of the Earth King and head of the Dai Li, soon leading a confused Aang to a secret room where the rest of Team Avatar had been brought to... against their will.

Team Avatar discovering a terrible conspiracy.
Upon being brought to the room, Aang and everyone try to convince Long Feng that what they know is absolutely important to the King, but not only does the man once again shuts this down, but they also discover that 1) The Earth king has now become nothing but a figurehead knowing nothing about the war, 2) It's really Long Feng who has control over all the other city resources, and 3) (quite easily the worst one against them) is that he has absolutely no intention of doing anything to help them and fully intends to keep things as it was for years, not caring what he does or who gets hurt to keep it that way. Furious over the fact that he's forcing an entire city to live in a world that's coming so close to falling apart and he won't do anything to change it for the good of all, Aang threatened to tell everyone about the war, but the corrupt chancellor countered this by threatening to expel them from the city, even saying that if Aang persisted, he may never find his missing bison again, which forces the gang to comply (at first) to the corrupt city's system as they are escorted back home by a different woman named Joo Dee, further showing how much control over the city the secretariat has.

Despite now being forced to keep his mouth shut, this doesn't stop Aang from enjoying the earth kingdom capital or trying to find his giant bison buddy, flying high over Ba Sing Se, Aang lands at a small zoo looking for Appa, where the local Zookeeper tells Aang that he would like nothing more than to let his animals run wild in open spaces. Aang suggests moving the animals outside to an open area just outside the city, but the animals prove too difficult to control and begin running amok around some of the buildings, thinking quickly, Aang used earthbending to create a wall around the animals before creating paths, secluded areas, and habitat accessories, thus successfully constructing a new facility.
A "vacation" to Lake Laogai[]

Aang "missing Appa" poster.
Eventually after a few weeks of waiting for their audience with the , Aang and the gang decide to start upgrading their search for Appa by sending off flyers all across the city, but they are all brought down by the original "Joo Dee", who implores them to stop doing this but Aang, having already been fed up by playing along with Long Feng's unfair system, stands his ground & tells "Joo Dee" off. After this statement Team Avatar decides to once again put up all the missing flyers in the hopes of someone will find it and help them, but as they do this, for the first time in a very long time, they once again meet Jet again.

Aang & everyone surrounding a brainwashed Jet.
But although Katara was completely distrustful of him following their last adventure with him, Jet assures them that he genuinely means to help them and says he knows where Appa is, something Toph confirms he's being honest by reading Jet's heartbeat and breathing patterns through the ground. Following the guy, the gang sadly discover that Appa "flew off to Whaletail Island" which could take weeks or months for, but just as they're about to leave they are confronted by two rebel fighters that have followed Jet who say that he was, quite rightfully, arrested weeks ago, & although Toph senses both of them are telling the truth, Sokka decides to go with the newest truth and correctly deduces that Jet only says the truth because he thinks he is... because somehow Long Feng was able to brainwash him.
With this dangerous revelation revealed Aang, his pals as well as Jet's friends gang up on the brainwashed rebel and tie him up and that very night, they take him to a secret attic in the city to try and somehow break him free from the Dai Li's control. After some attempts that ended in failure, the group are able to snap Jet back to his senses and ask him to remember where he was taken, to which he responds that it was somewhere under a Lake called Laogai.

Everyone near Lake Laogai.
With a new place to start looking, Team Avatar and the freedom fighters agree to team up to rescue Appa and put an end to Long Feng's messed-up regime, so the following morning they all get up on a monorail and head on over the where Lake Laogai is located and when they get there, Toph finds a hole that leads directly underneath it. Crawling down the hole, Aang and the others find a hidden tunnel-system that goes all across the city where anyone who doesn't comply with the Ba Sing Se conspiracy is forcefully hypnotized into playing along, they even have tons of woman being brainwashed into thinking they're "Joo-Dee" just to be his extra-eyes around the city.

Aang finally reunited with his Bison buddy.
Eventually Jet is able to lead them all to where Appa is being locked away, but when they get there they're only met with Long Feng and a ton of Dai Li agents and a battle quickly ensued, soon enough Aang and Jet are able to corner Long Feng and right after denying a bargain to leave the city as it was, the evil chancellor uses the trigger word he placed on all his brainwashed subjects and puts Jet back under his control and attack the Avatar. Luckily Aang is able to snap Jet out of it but Long Feng retaliated with earthbending and strikes a grievous blow to Jet, Long Feng escaped as the others entered the chamber. Katara tried to heal Jet and realized just how badly he was injured. Longshot, speaking to Team Avatar for the first time, told Aang and his group that they should go and find Appa and leave Jet to Smellerbee and himself. Jet tried to assure Katara that he would be fine, but as they left, Toph sorrowfully claimed that Jet was dying. As the four exited the room, Smellerbee tended to Jet while Longshot pointed his bow at the doorway in case Dai Li agents enter the room.
Team Avatar finally reached Appa's cell, only to find the chains broken, and Appa gone and thinking that Long Feng had taken him, they rushed back to the surface, only to find themselves surrounded by the Dai Li, who erected two walls to prevent the team from flying away. Momo suddenly took off into the sky, only to have Appa come down and break through the Day Li trap, destroying the walls to open an escape route. Long Feng tried to attack Appa, only to have his foot caught in Appa's mouth, with the bison throwing him into the lake. Long Feng's body skipped three times on the water before sinking, soon leading Aang and the others to joyfully reunite with the flying bison and fly away once again.

Finally reunited with his flying animal companion once again, Aang and the others rest up on nearby small island where he has some aloe time with his bison, and once he's done the young avatar then joins in on a conversation with the water-tribe siblings on what they should do next now that they main ride is back with them. In it Aang and Sokka vote on finishing what they came here to do and tell the Earth King about their invasion plans and reveal Long Feng's treachery in the hopes of him knowing the truth will make things much better for Ba Sing Se, and after sometime thinking about it, Katara and Toph go (who were thinking of leaving the city while they still can) completely agree with the boys and at the sight of an approaching scout ship sent by the Dai Li, Team Avatar bounce back on Appa once again and fly back to the palace and put an end to Long Feng's evil regime for good.

After some difficulties navigating the palace they finally reach the Earth King's throne room where the king is sitting, but also encounter Long Feng and numerous Dai Li agents, after revealing himself as the Avatar, Aang attempts to uncover Long Feng's conspiracy and the war, but while he doesn't fully believe them at first, he is able to convince the king to personally see these claims for himself, which is something they all abide to.

Team Avatar successfully revealing the truth.
After an awkward trip on the monorail, Aang and the gang show their first evidence to the Earth king by revealing to him the underground base underneath Lake Laogai, only to find that the entrance to the subterranean facility has bee destroyed to prevent further investigation, but just before he returns to the palace Aang and co. think of another & bigger piece that'll convince him, which they're able to do by letting him ride on Appa, though while flying the Earth king admits that there's still part of him wishing that there really is no war for different reasons, which makes Aang agree as well. Upon making it to the outer wall, a relieved Aang and crew are able to show a shocked Earth King the damaged fire nation drill still stuck in the wall, which the Dai Li were secretly covering up rather than completely remove from the part of the wall it had broken through, seeing this, along with Long Feng's pathetic attempts to pass it off as something other than a machine of war, is what finally opens up the Earth King's eyes and he angrily orders his former "trusted advisor" to be arrested immediately.

Immediately once this agreement is made, all of them are approached by the Earth king's highest-ranking general How, who after his arrest had his men raided Long Feng's office and discovered files about every person in Ba Sing Se, including Aang and his friends, with Aang's saying someone who can help him.

As he and Sokka, as Katara allowed him to be the one to meet their father while she stays behind to make the battle plans, prepare to leave Ba Sing Se, Aang tries to confess to Katara of his love for her, but Sokka unknowingly interrupts him before he could say anything, much to their annoyance, though he does get both a hug and a kiss on his cheek from her before flying off, and as Aang and Sokka made their way over the plains surrounding Ba Sing Se on Appa, a relaxed Sokka (after hearing that the "Kyoshi warriors", mainly Suki, are coming to Ba Sing Se) goes onto feel glad that things were finally going working out for them, blissfully unaware and unprepared of the fiery typhoon about to strike them.

Avatar The Last Airbender Aang Meets Guru Pathik At The Eastern Air Temple
Aang meeting Pathik for the first time.
After landing a slightly nernous Sokka right next to the bay where his father and the rest of the men from his tribe are guarding, Aang and Appa depart from him for now as they once again fly back to their old home to meet with their spiritual teacher. Upon arriving back at the eastern air temple at sunset, Aang officially meets the Guru who introduces himself as Pathik who was a spiritual brother to the Air Nomads and a close friend of Monk Gyatso, when Aang asked Pathik how he would teach him to gain control of the Avatar State, the guru replied that if he ever wants to restore balance to the world, he has to restore balance to himself first.
Aang Opens His Chakras for Avatar State Control 🧘♂️ Full Scene - Avatar- The Last Airbender
Aang gaining control over the Avatar state.
So that following night far down in the temple where the water flows, Guru Pathik takes a drowsy Aang down to a little clogged-up creek where he explains to him that in order to have full-control of the Avatar State, in which he can easily go into it whenever he wants to, all he has to do is simply open up the chakras, nexuses of metaphysical and/or biophysical energy residing in the human body, and since Aang doesn't know what they are, Pathik teaches him the basics. Using a pond clogged with algae, he successfully explains to Aang the concept of chakras: by removing the clogs between pools, the water will flow, just as energy isallowed to flow through the body when his chakras were opened & that there are 7 chakras within the body, each with a purpose and each with a different blockage; an intense sensation results from each of their openings to which he warned that the process of opening the chakras must be completed without interruption in order to achieve success, a risk the young Avatar decides to do and throughout the night, they go all around the temple opening his seven Chakras in the following order.
- He opened the earth chakra which was blocked by fear by meditating & envisioned himself surrounded by fire and in the presence of the Fire Lord, and after receiving reassurance and guidance from Pathik in addressing the emotion, Aang was able to clear his thoughts and unlock it.
- He opened the water chakra which was blocked by guilt, where he confessed his regret for running away from the Southern Air Temple to escape the pressure accompanying his position as Avatar & harming others while in the Avatar State, where Pathik replied that Aang must accept what had happened and not allow the events to influence his judgment and must forgive his own actions, which he was able to do.
- He opened the fire chakra which was blocked by shame. Aang recalled his first attempt at firebending and vowed to never firebend again, Pathik dismissed this, saying that in order to obtain balance, Aang must accept all aspects of his life, including his need to master firebending, which he was able to do.
- He opened the air chakra which was blocked by grief where he envisioned the Air Nomads that died because he abandoned them & sadly watched as they slowly faded away into dust, but Pathik stated that love was a form of energy and flowed around everything & reassured that the monks' love for him was still present and manifested itself in the form of new love: the love he felt for Katara which did the job.
- He opened the sound chakra which was blocked by the lies he told himself, which was him denying he was the Avatar to which Pathik said that all must accept who they are and thus Aang must accept his position, which he calmly accomplished.
- He opened the light chakra which was blocked by the illusion of separation, to which Aang applied this principle to the four nations, and Pathik agreed, stating that the people of the world were in reality one people, despite their decision to live as separate nations. He explained that even the separation of the four elements was an illusion.
Unfortunately, despite the previous six being slightly easy, Aang soon faced the hardest choice to make when he finally began the process of opening his final chakra: the thought chakra which was blocked by earthly attachments, and when he meditated on what those attachments were, they all but took the form of the first girl he saw after being freed. Seeing this Aang greatly hesitates doing this as he is unwilling to let go of his attachment to Katara, which only gets even more interrupted when he has a vision of Katara in danger and chooses to help her, against Pathik's warning that he will be cut off from the Avatar State entirely.
The Battle at destiny's crossroads[]

Aang & the others meeting unexpected help.
Picking up Sokka and soon joining up with Toph, who discovered that the letter was just a ploy for her parents' hunters to capture but managed to escape by inventing a new set of sub-bending called "metalbending", Aang flies them all back to Ba Sing Se arrived at the palace, the Earth King reassured them that Katara was fine, but a search of their messed-up house all but confirmed Aang's suspicions that she was indeed in peril and soon enough they meet Iroh once again, whom Toph had befriended earlier. Iroh appealed to the team for aid, stating that Azula and her friends have snuck into the city and captured Zuko but although initially wary of the "angry freak's" prior actions, Aang and Sokka agree to help, afterwards Iroh reveals to them that he had captured a Dai Li agent who reveals that in addition to sneaking past the gates (which she did by disguising themselves as the very Kyoshi warriors (after capturing Suki and her team) that were heading to town), Azula has teamed up with Long Feng, having decided to take control of Ba Sing Se by force because the Dai Li remained loyal to him, and are planning to capture the earth king and other generals today.

Opening a tunnel that leads into the catacombs, Sokka and Toph race to the throne room to warn the Earth King while Aang & Iroh go down to look for Katara & Zuko, while traveling through the earthbent tunnel to this prison, Aang recounted to Iroh the events of his training with Guru Pathik and unsure if he made the right choice, hearing the Avatar question his choice and doubt his abilities without the Avatar State, Iroh reassure the kid that he was very wise to choose happiness and love over power and perfection, which he perceived as overrated as they finally make it to the prison and find the ones they were looking for.

After a brief moment of dramatic tension, Zuko made his move and began fighting... on Azula's side as his crazy sister pointed out that if he chooses to side with them, he'll finally be able to get his wish of their father "restoring his honor" and finally returning home as the great man he knows he is, as Aang & Katara now battle both the fire nation siblings many Dai Li agents appear as well, having been convinced by Azula to betray their nation as well as betraying Long Feng, and make things too hard for them, just as they're now being backed in a colossal corner, a depressed Aang finally decides to open up his though chakra and lets Katara go as he enters the Avatar State, but just before he can attack a sneaky Azula strikes him in the back with the deadliest & most advanced form of firebending: lightning-bending, which immediately kills him as his body falls down, just before a devastated Katara catches it as Iroh appears to buy them the time they need to escape.

A knocked-out Aang with Katara after escaping a captured Ba Sing Se.
But just as it looked like both his and the Avatar's time in the world was over forever, a desperate Katara swiftly uses the spirit water she still had with her to heal up the devastating wound in his back, which heals up his body and allows his spirit to return their just in time to once again find himself waking up inside Katara's arms, though the lightning blast was still to much for him to handle and he passes out. But even though he was able to survive that close shave with death, this did nothing but change the reality that now with the Dai Li obeying her every command, Azula has nevertheless finally conquered the capital of the Earth kingdom with no hope of them ever fighting back to take it back, leaving them all to escape from the once-untouchable city on Appa with what the best they can do for now.
Escape from the spirit world[]
Even though his body was able to barely recover from the lightning to the back, Aang's soul was not yet fully able recover from the death-attack and was stuck still bound to the spirit world and what's worse, because he was killed while in the Avatar state, the Avatar cycle is in danger of being permanently destroyed. As he is busy trying to return to his body he encountered Princess Yue about the danger, and informed him that if he wants to rescue the Avatar cycle, he has to reconnect with his past four lives.
Aang found Avatar Roku amid the fire geysers and told him about his extreme shame at failing to master the Avatar State. However, Avatar Roku consoled him, explaining that he, too, had problems with mastering it. He confessed his first two unsuccessful attempts to master the state, and explained to Aang that it was a very difficult skill to acquire and that he should not feel ashamed, with that settled Roku subsequently told ang he had to meet Avatar Kyoshi next.
After some traveling Aang reunites with Hei Bai who took the kid to meet with Avatar Kyoshi, upon reuniting with her she apologized for the events at Chin Village and explained how after she defeated Chin the Conqueror, balance was restored, but she stated that she later had an error of judgment and told Aang how she assembled a group to uphold and protect the cultural heritage of Ba Sing Se. She trained a group of elite earthbenders, who later became known as the Dai Li. Aang was shocked by the revelation that an Avatar trained the Dai Li, stating that they were "the worst, most corrupt earthbenders in the world". Avatar Kyoshi explained that she thought it was a wise decision at the time and stated that all actions have an effect, whether positive or negative, for many lifetimes. She subsequently instructed Aang to find the Water Tribe Avatar who came before her, Avatar Kuruk.
Aang and Hei Bai traversed a murky swamp in the Realm of Koh, when they bumped into a mysterious man, who introduced himself as Avatar Kuruk. He asked Aang if he had seen a beautiful woman with long, brown hair. Aang responded by inquiring about Kuruk's dilemma to which Kuruk proceeded to tell him his history as the Avatar. Suddenly, Aang recalled his encounter with Koh while in the Northern Water Tribe. He realized that one of Koh's faces was that of the woman Kuruk had described and shared this revelation. Heartened by the knowledge of where his wife was, Kuruk set off to track down Koh once again and told Aang to look for the nomadic Avatar who preceded him, Avatar Yangchen.
Avatar Yangchen appeared atop the mountain in the clouds. She asked Aang what he learned from meeting his past lives. Aang realized that the past Avatars struggled and made mistakes, like he did. Aware of this, he pondered why the Avatar is born human and thus, is allowed to make mistakes, rather than being an all-knowing immortal spirit. Avatar Yangchen explained that the Avatar must experience human emotions to understand how precious human life is. She also explained that Aang's ability to enter the Avatar State had been disrupted, so he would now have to rely on his friends rather than his past lives, though he would still be able to contact them. She bade him farewell and informed Aang that when he awakened, his trip to the Spirit World would be like a forgotten dream.

The following morning, a well-rested Aang learns just what he had missed during his coma: after escaping Ba Sing Se they were able to meet up with the men from the water tribe they had encountered earlier, though after that now free of being a royal for the time being, the earth king decided to go incognito and follow Team Avatar's example of seeing the world with Bosco, but with the earth kingdom capital now under fire nation control, ships had begun filling in the bay, luckily with quick thinking they captured the ship they're sailing on and made it there disguise. When Aang asks what will they do next, Hakoda explains that without the earth armies, they won't be able to have the massive invasion force against the fire nation as they originally wanted, so they planned to invade with a small-but-strong army composed of the allies and friends they met across the earth kingdom, but he also learns that, much to his dismay, is that according to Sokka he's their biggest advantage for the invasion... because the whole world thinks he's dead.

Aang being forced to do nothing.
When a guilt-ridden Aang wonders how this could be good news, Sokka explains that it means the Fire Nation will not be hunting for him any longer or will be expecting him on the invasion as an actual Fire nation ship appears before them, while the others hide Hakoda and Bato try to talk their way out, but the crew eventually finds holes in their story, leading them to believe that it is a captured ship. The captain decides to let them think they got away, but sink the ship as soon as they are clear. Toph overhears the order, however, and swiftly drops the captain and his guards into the water by way of metalbending. Katara puts space between the two ships with a huge waterbending attack that nearly capsizes the enemy ship, and they try to escape. Despite the tremendous efforts of Katara and Toph, the ship takes heavy damage from the pursuing Fire Nation ship. Out of sheer bad luck, the serpent of Serpent's Pass appears, but is struck by a stray fireball before getting the chance to escape as the enraged serpent attacks the Fire Nation ship.

He made it past a naval blockade, but was soon caught in a nasty squall and cast into the stormy seas, believing he had failed again and would now die because of his foolishness, Aang found himself unable to work up the will to continue. At that moment however, Avatar Roku appeared and told Aang not to blame himself and claimed fault for the war's devastation and implored Aang to redeem his mistakes. The spirit of Yue then appeared and removed the last of Aang's doubt, encouraging him to save the world as he had before. She helped Aang to safety, creating a wave that carried Aang to Crescent Island where his friends found him lying on the island's shore in the morning. Aang apologized for his rash actions and accepted the fact that he would need their help. When his glider washed ashore, tattered and broken beyond repair, he planted it firmly in the volcanic rock for cremation, burning away evidence of his existence and symbolically letting go of his past.

A week before another battle[]
Aang Faces Ozai In His Dreams 💤 - Avatar FULL Episode in 5 Minutes - Avatar- The Last Airbender
Aang's nightmares as he waits for the invasion force.
Regardless of that nightmarish encounter with the "puppet master", Aang and the rest of his pals arrive ahead of schedule at the Black Cliffs, the intended meeting place for the invasion force just four days before the Eclipse begins but learning that the invasion is no longer a week away leaves Aang deeply worried and stressed and as a result of the fear of facing Ozai & that he might lose, began having nightmares about facing the Fire Lord, such as having lost his pants and forgotten to study for a math test.
Aang's daydream
The one nice & sane (-ish) daydream.
In an effort to stop these from showing an agitated Aang decides to stay awake until the invasion, but this backfired when he started having daydreams and hallucinations; in one such daydream, he hears Momo and Appa speak like humans and, after a dispute, have a samurai battle between them with rocks and sheep dancing around Aang. Of course one dream proved to be fine as he decided to confess his love and even kissed Katara and in another, Fire Lord Ozai told him he missed the invasion. His friends tried to relieve his stress through yoga at a volcanic core with Katara; therapy with Sokka and his beard; and heavy massage therapy from Toph, who later suggested acupuncture, but seeing that none of this proved to be helpful his friends make a comfortable bed out of fleece and saying he's got this after everything he's already been through, he gets the will to have a good night sleep before the invasion.
The Invasion on the black sun[]

Aang ready for action once more.
Early up in the very next morning, a well-rested Aang woke up just in time the invasion happy and rested, though when Toph asked if he was gonna go into the Avatar State when he faces Ozai, Aang says he can't because Azula's lightning strike was strong that it completely locked away his link to his thought Chakra just as the invasion boats began arriving with all the people they met on their previous adventures under cloaks of mists, seeing them Aang and Toph prepared for their arrival by making docks for them to stop by where Aang introduced Toph his friends they met prior to her as each one came off the boat such as Haru (now with a mustache & goatee) and his father, the mechanist and Teo, the swampbenders and even some of the earth wrestlers, they had a surprise for Aang in the form of a new glider for him. With everyone taking a short break for food and ready to hear the battle plan Sokka, though too nervous to speak so his dad did in his place, explain the full layout of the invasion plan: they will hop onto the boats and storm the beach leading to the fire nation capital just before the eclipse begins, because it will only last for 8 minutes, that way when the eclipse begins they can take on the firebenders that guard the palace and conquer the palace, all the while Aang will go on ahead & defeat Ozai while he is powerless, allowing them to take control of the capital & end the war, right afterwards Aang makes one final preparation before the fight by shaving his hair, ready to show the world that he's back.

After cheering up an embarrassed Sokka over his war plan, Aang alongside everyone of his allies hop onto the water tribe boats and sail off to the beach near the Fire Nation capital to confront the Fire Lord, after some sailing they get to their first major obstacle to got to the capital: colossal fire-net gates named after Ozai's father (and Azula's namesake) Azulon as the guards stationed there immediately begin coming towards them, fortunately they all get down to the bottom of the boats & onto new rides Sokka had the mechanist built: whale-shaped submarines that moves around via waterbending each loaded with earthbender tanks & trucks that carry both bendables for the benders to use as well as allow them all to easily get through the gates. Of course the one problem he couldn't fix with them is that the subs have a limited air supply so they'll have to resurface and get extra air before they all land on the beach, while they are resurfacing and all rest up before the battle, Aang and the gang get together one final time to wish each other good luck before parting ways once more while Aang and Katara say goodbye in private, to which Katara reveals she is proud of how much Aang has grown since they first met, but since he realizes how big this day is and that there is a chance that he may not survive, Aang decides that now was the time to make his move and kisses Katara, who comfortably returns it, before he flies off the face his destiny, leaving the amazed waterbending girl blushing & sad before she heads back into the sub.

Aang bursting into the Fire Nation palace... with no one home.
With the invasion plan slowly going smoothly so far, Aang flies ahead of everyone as he crosses over the guards stationed over the path into the Fire Nation capital, which still goes according to plan as the invasion force battles their way across the beach and past all the military defenses there, all the while he sneaks past everything guarding it on his way into the palace. Though on the way he finally reaches the city but finds that it's almost completely deserted and quiet, though suspicious at first Aang paid no attention to it and continued onwards, however when he barged into the palace, no one was present, and when he saw no one staring in his way he immediately went to the throne room, only to find it completely deserted.

Frustrated at this Aang returned to the battle and told Sokka, Katara, and Toph what had happened, but Sokka thinks that Ozai would not want to leave his city, but still stay close enough to be safe which lead him to suspect he was in an underground bunker and Toph agreed to help them find it, which they did with ease and entered it using earthbending, but after questioning a passing servant, he secretly lead them to go in the wrong direction. once the three entered a room, they only find Azula sitting on a throne, who was powerless due to the eclipse, but went ahead and revealed she knew about the invasion for quite some time, Aang and the others demanded to know where her dad was by reminding her that she could not firebend, Azula instead decided to tell them about her "souvenirs" from Ba Sing Se, two Dai Li agents and a battle soon took place with Aang trying to get to Azula while being interrupted by Dai Li, eventually the Dai Li were defeated and she & Toph give chase to her, but Sokka soon realized that this was a trap as Azula was not trying to defeat the Avatar, just distract him and take up his time (something he is goaded into attacking when Azula mentions she has Suki captive) what's worse is that her plan worked and realizing it's too late, Aang & co. decide to make a tactical withdrawal for now.

Knowing what needs to be done to keep hope alive, Hakoda decides that he and the older warriors should surrender while the younger ones escape on Appa, hearing this Aang looked away, crying over the fact that he failed again, but Katara knelt close to him and smiled proudly at her friend and turning to the invasion force, Aang apologized to the invasion force, promising to make it up to them and right afterwards Aang alongside Katara, Sokka, Toph, The Duke, Teo, and Haru boarded Appa and headed to the abandoned air temple made in the west as the perfect place for them to take refuge, unaware that one extra ally is quietly following them from behind.

While the others go off to do some exploring, Aang joins in on a discussion on what they should do next now that the eclipse is over, where Sokka says they'll simply go back to the original plan way back when they first began their journey: he'll have to master all four elements and confront Ozai before the comet comes.
Avatar The Last Airbender- Book 3 Fire The Western Air Temple - Zuko's Impressions - Hello Zuko Here
Aang trying to avoid a fiery discussion.
However despite knowing he truly needs to learn it, Aang (still too afraid to firebend again following his first lesson with the fact that he accidentally burned Katara still fresh in his mind) is obviously reluctant to actually learn how to do it properly, especially considering the fact that the entire nation related to that element is still out to get him as well as not knowing where Jeong Jeong is now, and flies off to get his mind off of it. Of course when he flies off his pals immediately see something wrong with him as they wonder what sort of firebender will be willing to teach him as they all on Appa to bring him back into their current predicament, eventually as the evening fell, Sokka, Katara, and Toph caught up with Aang on Appa as they landed on another building of the temple to talk to him, but just Aang suggested showing them another part of the temple, Toph states that "it'll have to wait" as she senses someone new in their presence when they all turn to see who's behind them, for the first time since the Ba Sing Se coup, they come face-to-face with Zuko once again.
Avatar The Last Airbender- The Western Air Temple - Zuko Tries To Join Team Avatar - Hello Zuko Here
Aang find his new firebending teacher.
But just as they all gear up and prepare to battle him once again, to their colossal surprise, Zuko explains that he's finally decided to become a good guy and abandoned his nation following their failure in the black sun invasion, as well as revealing that prior to the invasion he followed them underneath Lake Laogai and had beaten them to Appa's cell & (after some serious questioning by his uncle) despite having the choice to make of making him a hostage instead chose to set him free, and even offers to become Aang's new firebending. Of course while Aang is at least considering him joining them the others (especially Katara since she was the first one to trust him before his betrayal) are all still very reluctant to willingly trust him again after all the pain and trouble he's put them and all they've encountered through during their journey all over the world and don't even give a dragon-rat's eye when he attempts to apologize to them, especially his latest action in which he revealed he was the guy Combustion man was working for to assassinate them, and when he brings up Aang's question about how they could've been friends, but Aang eventually rejects him as well, seeing this Zuko instead says they can take him in as a prisoner, only for Katara to attack him and ordering him to leave the temple, which he does.
Avatar The Last Airbender- The Western Air Temple - Team Avatar Talks About Zuko Joining The Team
Everyone talking about Zuko.
After that intense reunion Aang and the gang head back to their camp as they discuss Zuko's strange explanation about joining them, to which Aang has more trouble supporting their conclusion as he recalls the time Zuko risked his life as the Blue Spirit to rescue him from Zhao, but Katara refuses to believe that Zuko saved him out of compassion but rather did so for his own benefit. But as they continue this Toph interjects and defends the fire prince because she sensed Zuko was being sincere and honest the whole time (a fact she had sensed earlier when she sees Appa (who really did Zuko rescue him) constantly lick him as a token of gratitude for his heroic deed), and further points out that Aang needs a firebending teacher, but upon hearing this Aang adamantly refuses to accept Zuko as the guy to train him, making a frustrated Toph leave the temple to find the guy, but not before saying that she wonders who is really the blind one in the team.
Team Avatar vs. Combustion Man at Western Air Temple 💥 Full Scene - Avatar- The Last Airbender-2
Aang & co. facing Combustion Man one last time.
The very next morning though, Aang and the water tribe siblings wonder where Toph is now after yesterday when she suddenly pops out of a hole in the wall with her feet burnt, where she told the group that she tried to visit Zuko, but he accidentally burned her, this makes the group full conclude that Zuko really can't be trusted, to which decide on the right way to deal with the guy: invite him to come back and say he'll be their prisoner... so they can jump him and really make him one. As the group laid Toph's feet in a pool of water, Combustion Man arrives at the air temple and sneaks in on a high angle ready to strike, but Aang immediately senses him just as a pillar on the temple is fired on and whipped up a tornado at Combustion Man, but he dodged it and fired again which forces the team to take cover, but as they try to avoid getting fired at again Aang and the rest notice to their surprise that Zuko swooped in and trying (but failing miserably) to get the guy to stop attacking them, and seeing the opening he's giving them, Sokka strikes the guy on his forehead tattoo with his trusty boomerang, blocking his chi and blowing himself as his remains fall off the cliffside.
Zuko Joins Team Avatar- "Hello, Zuko Here" 👋 Full Scene - Avatar- The Last Airbender
Aang finally accepting firebending & Zuko again.
With the Combustionbender finally out of there hairs for good and once Zuko comes down over to their campsite, a grateful Aang thanks the guy for his heroic efforts before he goes on to properly explain himself on why he finally decided to join them in ending the war: even though betraying them and his uncle allowed him to finally get everything he wanted since he first met them like being hailed as his nation's hero, succeeding in making his father proud, and even getting together with Mai (who he had a crush on since they were kids), none of that ever came close to everything he's learned since his banishment and after apologizing for what he did to Toph last night, came to truly understand that honor is something you've gotta get yourself and is more that willing, but dead-set and determined, to help them return balance to the world once more. Hearing all of this from Zuko makes Aang reflect on his own firebending experience that similarly resulted in Katara getting burned, and seeing how it's really is easy to accidentally hurt those you care about, the young Avatar finally decides to accept Zuko as his firebending teacher but before that, he asks his friends if they will allow Zuko entry into the group, something that Toph, knowing that she can get revenge for Zuko burning her feet; Sokka only to help their plan of defeating the Fire Lord; and after a moment of silence, Katara reluctantly agrees, only because it is what Aang believes is right, this leaves Zuko enthusiastically promises not to let the group down as they all finally accept him as one of their own.

Avatar The Last Airbender- The Firebending Masters - Toph Learns Earthbending From Badgermoles
Aang & Zuko preparing to go on a little trip.
Now with a firebender he can truly call his teacher, Aang wakes up the following morning where he officially begins his second day of firebending from his new enemy-turned-friend, but during training Zuko realized that he could not make strong fire blasts anymore due to no longer being willing to hunt him down while Aang was still too afraid to firebend because of what he did to Katara, so that night Aang thought the reason he couldn't bend was that in the past Zuko was driven by anger, and now that he's not the hothead he used to be he could not firebend nearly as well. Despite believing he might be right, Zuko admits to no longer wanting to rely on hate & anger anymore if he ever wants to help bring peace to the world, leading to a suggestion by Toph to go learn the original source of firebending from the ones who first bended the element, something Zuko found a trouble in because the original firebenders, quite easily being the dragons, were now extinct, however, there were ruins not far from here of an ancient civilization known as the Sun Warriors who first learned from the dragons, and believed that they could find something to learn from there.
Avatar The Last Airbender- The Firebending Masters - Zuko and Aang Arrive At The Sun Warrior Ruins
Aang & Zuko at an ancient ruin.
So with this in mind, early in the next morning, Aang and Zuko hop on Appa and headed to the ancient ruined city of the Sun warriors, once they get there, they headed toward a tall pyramid in the middle of the city, along the way, Zuko told Aang that the reason he was on edge of learning from the dragons was because the they were extinct was because of Sozin as well. Because dragons were considered the ultimate firebenders at the time (despite obviously owning one as his companion and ride just like Roku), along with leading the war he came up with insanely messed-up tradition of hunting them for glory which drove many prideful benders to do it, which only increased because his uncle was the person who slew the last dragon.

Aang & Zuko doing the dragon dance & meeting the Sun Warriors.
When they reached the top of the pyramid, they found a door that was only opened on the solstice, like the ones in the Fire Sages' temples but Zuko attempted to deceive the door by reflecting the sunlight into the gem placed on top of the door and this caused it to open, which is something Aang complimented him for that, stepping inside, Zuko snooped around while Aang gazed at the statues depicting a move known as the "Dancing Dragon" and when he imitated the first move, he triggered something and asked Zuko to perform the technique with him. When they completed the move, a golden egg shaped raised up from the ground and despite Aang's warnings Zuko picked it up, which glue-like substance to shoot up from the pedestal and trapping them both next to bars up in the ceiling, they stayed glued up there way into the night until they're finally approached by a chief of some sort appeared and when the two were back on the floor and having the substance removed, they discover that the Sun Warrior civilization was still alive, once they were free Aang and Zuko stated their identities and revealed they wanted to learn the true meaning of firebending, leading the chief to say that they must learn from the masters if they ever hope to do it.
Aang + Zuko Dragon Dance with the Firebending Masters 🐲 - Avatar- The Last Airbender
Aang & Zuko facing the dragons.
So the following morning, Aang & Zuko followed the sun warrior chief to a stone furnace containing the Eternal Flame, the very first flame given to humanity by the dragons which they kept burning ever since and each are given a piece of it, Aang was at first reluctant to take the fire, but the chief assured him by saying that fire is not only destruction, but also life, once they're given it two were told to travel up a nearby mountain to meet the masters Ran & Shaw where they will present their flames as signs of worthiness and be judged and if they were deemed worthy, they will be taught; if not, they will be destroyed on the spot before they begin marching up the mountain, as the two journeyed up the mountain, Aang felt reluctant about going through with this, but Zuko reassured him it will be worth it. Eventually they reached the top the chief and other Sun Warriors were already there, but before facing the masters, the chief proclaims that they may not like to see them (Zuko due to his ancestors hunting the dragons to extinction and Aang for abandoning his Avatar destiny and letting the world burn) as they head to the top of a pedestal but as they presented their flames Aang's went out just as the Sun Warriors began calling the masters, when Aang tries to get some of Zuko's flame, two dragons fly out of the caves and flew in circles around the two, seeing this Aang thought that they should perform the Dancing Dragon with the dragons & they do so once again in-sync and when Aang and Zuko finished, the dragons began judging them and subsequently shot fire at the two, which encircled them in many different colors, greatly astounding them before returning to their caves.
Avatar The Last Airbender- The Firebending Masters - Ending
Aang now perfectly firebending.
Climbing down the pedestal, The chief reveals to them that Iroh lied about killing the dragons and instead learnt the knowledge from Ran and Shaw and let them live, this makes Zuko realize he was so focused on relying on anger, rage and the will to capture Aang that he let it become his "inner fire", but now that he's seen the error of his ways he instead decides to draw from the true source, his desire to bring balance to the world while Aang, realizing that fire is much more than destruction and death, is able to finally firebend as well. Of course because Iroh also promised to not tell anyone that he also met the Sun warriors, the Avatar and fire prince promise to not tell anybody, including their friends, that they met them as well and simply say that they learned how to firebend through the statues movements when they fly back to the Western Air Temple, and since it takes the form of a dance (not helped with the name), they do not take it too seriously, but nevertheless Aang is now finally able to officially begin his firebending training with nothing holding him back.

A little while later when they all wake up in the morning on a relatively regular & peaceful day, Aang and the others find a note written by Sokka and Zuko which says states that he and Sokka have decided to go on a "fishing trip" together and will be back in a few days, but not before the ex-evil fire prince has Aang do some "homework" via continuing his firebending practice, much to the Avatar's annoyance. Though of course, the "fishing trip" is really just a cover-up for Sokka to go on his own "little field trip" with Zuko as well: because he blames himself for the invasion plan failing, he decides to redeem himself by rescuing his dad with Zuko (relating to his predicament) tags along to help considering he was taken to the fire nation's highest security prison, and they not only succeed in doing so, but also get an imprisoned Suki (& another guy) out, but Zuko's involvement is what also pushes a visiting Mai, and eventually Ty Lee, to help them as well as they all head back in one piece... except without any meat.

Though because Azula was there during the whole prison debacle, she is able to track them down and come the following morning, she leads a bunch of Fire nation airships to the western air temple and begins attacking it, at the sight of this attack the group was forced to split (as Appa can't bring himself to go into a tunnel again) up through a tunnel. While Zuko held off the airships and Azula, Aang and the others (with Suki tagging along) flew on Appa while Hakoda and the others escape on another airship which they stole, and once they're out of the firebenders line of fire they all proceeded to catch Zuko when he and his sister fell from the airship after their attacks clashed, leaving her to hold onto a couple of vines as Team Avatar flies away to find somewhere to rest up.

After escaping the firebending airships, Aang and the others camp out near an uninhabited beach and by night they all (except Katara) toast to Zuko for his heroics, but by next morning when a determined Katara asked to borrow Appa, Aang learns that during their brief time in the crystal catacombs, she had mentioned her mother and hoping to make it up to her and learning about the fire nation raiders that took her life, he decides to help her with "getting some closure by helping her track the leader who did it, but when he found out about this Aang questioned her motives, even saying she sounded like Jet, and saying that he understood what she was feeling, mentioning Appa's theft by the sandbenders and his discovery of what happened to his people as it doesn't feel that too right. Later that night, Katara and Zuko prepare to take Appa without Aang's consent, however, Aang catches them again in the act and confronts them, but seeing he can't stop her now that she's given the opportunity, Aang ultimately allows them to take Appa as he truly believes it is a journey Katara needs to take, but he pleads with her to choose forgiveness rather than revenge, something she thanks him for and they depart.

Aang unsure of what to do next.
A few days later, Aang and the others fly to another uninhabited beach where they meet Katara and Zuko by the dock, where Aang learns that she chose to spare her mother's killer rather than returning the favor and voices his proudness in her, though while the young waterbender explains that she will never forgive the firebender for taking her mother's life, she is willing to forgive Zuko, which she ultimately does. So now that it's out of the way Aang & Zuko watch as Katara peacefully heads back to their camp to tell the others all that she's done now that the thought of anger & revenge are now out of system while Aang and Zuko stay at the docks where the latter says he was right about not using violence to end something dire, which is something Aang victoriously agrees with... only for Zuko to strike him with a colossally strong question where the pacifist Avatar has his own problem figuring out: just what will he do, when he finally faces Ozai?
Learning Ozai's plans for the comet[]
Regardless of that armor-piercing question Team Avatar, now with both Zuko and Suki by there side, decide to take some time off and go into hiding once again while Aang can fully master firebending and battle Ozai for a guaranteed win for him and everyone. But with the entire nation now both being aware of his survival and Zuko's "betrayal" because he openly stated defecting them to his own father's face, Zuko leads them all to the famously-acclaimed vacation spot of Ember island where they lay low in (what he thinks) the one place in the Nation that no one will look for them: his family's old summer home.

However, by the time Aang has finally become a semi-master at firebending and he and the other lay around doing nothing, the day Sozin's comet will pass by their world again will be in precisely three whole days which is something Zuko chastises them for. Hearing this Aang explains that he and rest agreed that he was gonna fight his dad after the comet had passed because A) It would be quite foolish to battle Ozai when he's not fully-mastered firebending while he's at his most powerful and B) As explained by Katara, was that the entire point of battling him before the comet came was to just stop the Fire Nation from winning the war, but after their victory over Ba Sing Se and the invasion force, they all (as well as the rest of the nation) feel they pretty much did.
But when Katara remarks that things "couldn't get worse", a frightful Zuko tells them it's "about to get worse than they can even imagine and tells Aang and everyone the final sting that pushed him over to their side: the day before the eclipse he was asked to attend an important war meeting and while there, he learned that despite Ba Sing Se still under Fire Nation rule, this did not stop earthbenders rebelling and fighting off the garrisons there, when Zuko was asked (due to his time in the city) how they could stop these, he remarked how people could withstand anything as long as they have hope. Unfortunately, his desperate father only took his comment as that they have to destroy their hope if they wanna win, and after another, more sarcastic, choice from Azula which reminded him of the returning Comet, A power-mad Ozai comes up with the war's most vile and dangerous strike yet: to lead the fleet of newly-constructed airships and with the power of the Comet, he will incinerate the entire earth nation, & to a lesser extent both water tribes which will leave the Fire Nation as only one left, at this Zuko urged a terrified Aang to really fight his father to save the world, otherwise there won't be a world to restore balance to.
Preparations for his final battle[]

A torn-up Aang over the choice of killing.
Hearing this disastrous plan makes Aang completely worried about this upcoming battle and doubts his abilities to successfully face the Fire Lord, but His friends, however, declare that they will fight alongside him to have a better shot at defeating Ozai which comforts Aang as Team Avatar joins together in a group hug, including a reluctant Zuko. Later that day, seeing as how he won't be a master when he faces Ozai, Zuko teaches him something his uncle taught him & invented that will come In handy as well as compensate over what happened in Ba Sing Se: lightning redirection, but as he tells him this he also tells Aang he must strike Ozai first, or else he will be defeated instead, something a hesitant Aang agrees to.

Aang's fated showdown training.
That afternoon Aang joins everyone on the beach a training session using a model for the Fire Lord with a melon for a head, called the "Melon Lord". He had Toph play the Melon Lord's forces, while the others attacked it, with Aang supposed to deliver the final blow, however, when the simulated fight actually took place and he was about to strike the final blow, Aang was unable to bring himself to kill the fake Fire Lord, during dinner, Katara found a painting of what she at first believed to be a painting of Zuko as a baby, until Zuko told them that it was actually a picture of his father. When Zuko said that the sweet and innocent baby Ozai grew up to be a monster, Aang pointed out to everyone that he was still a human being. When Zuko berated him, Aang began arguing with the group, telling them that he could not kill Ozai, as it went against everything the monks taught him. The others, especially Zuko, told him that he needed to kill Ozai for the good of the world leading him to storm off to the other side of the house and meditated in the balcony, something Zuko decides to let him figure out himself.

Aang waking on a mysterious island.
As he was meditating and trying to figure out just what to do to end the war without having the kill Ozai, a frustrated Aang awoke in a trance and walked down to the beach, into the water and swam to a mysterious island that had appeared in the middle of the night, with Momo flying along behind him. When he woke up the next morning, he discovered he had left the Fire Nation and was still on the strange island in the middle of the sea with Momo, and when he briefly wondered if he was in the Spirit World, only to dismiss that possibility as Momo could see him, and he was still able to bend.

Soon after realizing this he soon finds out that the entire island is not full of life with humans or animals before finding himself on a hexagon-shaped platform that's not even earth, nevertheless Aang is still very reluctant to actually kill Fire Lord Ozai, despite his friends and allies earlier concern that it's the one way to save this world. Of course quickly remembering he can still talk to his previous incarnations, Aang soon gets into a meditating phase to ask for their advice on how he can do it, unfortunately despite his earlier hopes even four of his previous past lives that he chose to talk to (Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, and Yangchen) only try convincing him that killing is the only way, with Yangchen's (a fellow airbending Avatar) advice sadly being the final push in making him believe he truly does have to kill Ozai to bring balance to the world.

But upon waking up the next morning, with the comet arriving in only a few hours, Aang quickly learns that he was actually on the back of the "biggest animal in the world" and when he swims around to find it's face, he quickly discovers that it's really a colossal Lion turtle, one of four that made the first benders by manipulating humans' chi. Hoping he might have the answer he's looking for, Aang states his problem and deciding to help him, receives the Lion Turtles' spiritual advice about how "darkness always yields to purifying light".

Of course Aang doesn't know what his advice really means immediately but with time quickly running out, he hops off the Lion-turtle and thanks it for his help before bidding him farewell as he swims away to somewhere else in the world, but now with a determined will to not turn back now, Aang fully hops into his "Avatar-duty" role as he prepares to face Ozai just as the Comet finally returns.
Showdown with the Phoenix King[]
Aang vs. Ozai (Final Battle) 🔥 - Full Scene - Avatar- The Last Airbender-2
Aang's final battle with Ozai for the fate of the world.
Heading atop a rocky terrain of pillars upon the shores of the earth kingdom, Aang has Momo stand clear of the damage and stands there ready for battle just as Ozai, whose so convinced he'll have victory that he decided to make Azula (who slowly began going crazy following their previous victories over her) the new Firelord... just so he can give himself a bigger title he calls the "Phoenix king", reaches the shore as he feels the Comet's energy and quickly begins burning it to the ground. Seeing this Aang quickly begins his counterattack by immediately destroying his flagship's engines which causes it to go down & stops Ozai's incineration, but this quickly catches Ozai's attention once he sees Aang, thinking him being here is a sign of the universe "congratulating him", flies off his ship and faces of with the Avatar to destroy him for good, but before that Aang reaches out to him in one-final attempt to end things peacefully when he says he has the power to end things, but Ozai only takes this as him having "all the power in the world" and seeing it really was going to end like this, the young Avatar also ditches his pacifist decision and soon engages the Phoenix king in battle as they battle it out all over the terrain.
Despite finally being able to bend all four elements, Aang is unable to overwhelm Ozai's experience in firebending especially now that it's been enhanced by the Comet as they move all over the battlefield with the young airbender throwing everything he's learned against the tyrant, eventually Ozai gets a bit too determined to kill him and soon begins shooting lightning at him, fortunately once he gets in the right position Aang manages to catch his latest lightning-strike. But just as he is about to redirect at the Fire tyrant, Aang still can't bring himself to kill the man and instead launches the lightning at the other direction, but this gives Ozai (though he chooses to not lightningbend again) the chance to send him falling down a lake before coming down to kill him, needing some time to think of his next move, Aang quickly rushes to the shore & encases himself in a stone ball (a similar one to the ice ball which he made all those years ago) but leaves a power-crazed Ozai to taunt about his people being weak before beginning to destroy his protection and kill him for good.
Doing his best to fend off the Phoenix King's relentless attacks, the terrified last airbender soon looses his grip as Ozai unleashes one final & colossally powerful attach that destroys his ball and slams him into a rock, hitting the scar on his back from Azula's lightning in the Ba Sing Se coup, doing this however inadvertently releases his locked seventh chakra, and because he had already unblocked before Azula struck him, Aang is able to once again finally enter the Avatar State... now in full control over it as well and with the combined power of all his past lives back with him once again, Aang quickly overwhelms a terrified Ozai who tries and fails to escape, once he pins hime down, Aang along with all his past lives declare he shall pay the price for all his forefather's crimes and prepares to kill him with all the elements at once. But before the final blow was struck, Aang quickly steps out of the Avatar State before it could kill him and makes it clear to all his past lives that he won't end it like this, but Ozai (thinking he was talking to him) takes his mercy as a sign of being weak and tries to kill him in the back, but Aang immediately senses this cuffs Ozai to the ground with earthbending as he finally understands the lion-turtle's lessons meaning, and with this he uses energybending for the first time and just as he barely succumbs to Ozai's negative energy that almost kills him, he easily overcomes this & as he shoots a beam of light across the sky the same way he did when he finally returned, he permanently strips Ozai of his Firebending powers, removing his ability to wage war &, in a sense, sentence him to something he considers to be worse than death, as all he really can harm others is with his firebending & without it is nothing less than a "little man trying to be big".
I aM tHe pHoEniX KiNg!!1!
Aang victorious over the Loser Lord.
With the once dangerous Phoenix King now reduced to a powerless little peasant and too weak to strike again, the once naive airbender further demonstrates his newfound control over the Avatar State by bending the entire ocean and puts out all the fire he had caused just as Sozin's Comet vanishes beyond the horizon and Momo, Sokka, Toph, and Suki, the latter three having successfully destroyed the Fire Nation fleet accompanying Ozai, meet up with him to congratulate him for his efforts. Right afterwards they cheekily taunt the once powerful Ozai now that he's nothing to be afraid of and with a new stolen airship, they take up the ex-"Phoenix King of Getting his Butt Whooped" as their prisoner and return to the Fire Nation where they reunite with Appa as well as a triumphant Katara & Zuko over a mentally-broken Azula and after bringing both his ex-sister & father to prison, the triumphant Team Avatar officially get the Fire Nation to accept peace and Zuko to be the new Firelord, ending Ozai's reign of terror for good and finally ending the war once and for all.

Aang as he finally restores balance & accepts his identity as the Avatar.
With the war finally over and the other nations at piece with each other once more, a grateful Aang dons official air monk clothes as he meets Zuko before his official coronation to be the Fire Lord he always wanted to be and before this he reminisces about how different his life was a year prior considering he went from being a goofy kid who didn't want to be the Avatar to a fully-realized bender, wherein Zuko assures him they'll be by each other's side to make a better world as the Avatar & the Fire Lord officially become friends again. As Zuko officially appears before the crowd & before he's made Fire Lord, he makes it clear to everyone that Aang is the hero as Avatar Aang also appears in front of the gathering where both officially declare the war to officially be over and promises to aid the world in the postwar reconstruction as Zuko is officially named the new Fire Lord.
Shortly after his coronation, the triumphant Team Avatar all go to privately celebrate their victory over at Iroh's new tea shop, and while everyone goes off to talk about personal things, Aang privately heads out to look over a new day rising to the world he rescued and will now protect. And as a special bonus for him Katara, after secretly affirming their feelings for each other after their reunion, joins him outside as well and after a little hug, they share their first official kiss and finally begin a romantic relationship together.
Adventures following the War[]
Following the celebrations of a new era of peace as well as finally establishing a romantic relationship with Katara, Aang and Team Avatar get into some wacky and intense shenanigans as they all begin navigating and leading a world that hasn't known peace for years and guide the new generation to an age of love & peace.
One of those misadventures they took was helping Zuko find his loving mother Ursa, who was banished when Ozai planned to kill Zuko and helped him get the throne by poisoning his father so he will spare him. While they will be more than willing to help him this would prove to be especially challenging because he (in an attempt to fix his broken family) decided to bring in a still mind-broken Azula along for the mission.
As they are flying to Ursa's hometown of Hira'a, during which Aang mentions he's glad he can now kiss Katara whenever he wants, though Sokka is still getting some time to actually get used to this new development.
The Legend of Aang Movie[]
COMING SOON
Starting the Republic of United Nations[]
Final years of his life[]
Being frozen in an iceberg for 100 years while in the Avatar State drained much of Aang's life energy. While he did not feel the effects for many years, after he entered middle age in his 50s, the strain of this exertion increasingly weighed upon his body. Ultimately, it resulted in Aang dying at the relatively young biological age of 66, in 153 AG. Aang was survived by his wife, Katara, and their three children, Bumi, Kya and Tenzin, but he did not live to see his four grandchildren, Jinora, Ikki, Meelo and Rohan (all of whom would become powerful Airbenders).
Guiding his successor & kids[]
Prior to his death, Aang tasked the Order of the White Lotus with finding and guiding the new Avatar after him. When Aang died, the Avatar spirit reincarnated into a feisty hot-tempered girl named Korra of the Southern Water Tribe. Aang intended for the Order to simply guide and guard Korra, but several mishaps in the aftermath of Aang's death (including a kidnapping attempt by the anarchist Zaheer) and the still-fragile state of relations between the now-Five Nations resulted in Katara and Tenzin sequestering Korra in a compound at the South Pole, bringing teachers to her instead of allowing her to seek out her own.
