~ Aanya refusing to help Viren in his plan to wage war on Xadia. |
Queen Aanya is a supporting protagonist of the 2018 animated Netflix fantasy series The Dragon Prince.
She is the queen of the Kingdom of Duren, and the daughter of Annika and Neha, who, despite being a child ruler, is a great fighter and mature leader, and is described as being the least impulsive of all the rulers of the Human Kingdoms. She would later on become a major ally of the Kingdom of Katolis and the elves.
She is voiced by Zelda Ehasz.
Biography[]
When she was an infant, her mothers went to Xadia to kill a magma titan and retrieve its heart to save their kingdom from a famine that they had been suffering from for seven years, but they were killed by Avizandum during the mission.
This would cause Aanya the next ruller of Duren, but since she was too young to make her own choices, she was unnable to take care of her kingdom until she was 11 years-old. As a child ruller, Aanya would be treated like a weak individual and easy to usurp, with her suffering from coups, conspiracies, and assassination attempts, but she was able to endure them all.
After Viren illegaly sent a message to the other Human Kingdoms so they could have a reunion, Aanya was the last to appear. Aanya would apologize for her lateness, Viren told her that the things they were going to discuss was for adults only, with Aanya saying that she was now old enough to speak for her people, and after Viren insisted it, Aanya cheekily told Viren that it seemed like she was a crown without an adult, and that he was an adult without a crown, and then politely asked that they should begin the meeting.
Viren then told them about the Sunfire elves on the borders and the dragons having been seen flying over towns, and that they should wage war on Xadia. While the others agree to help Viren, Aanya stays undecided, as she believed that the information about the threats of Xadia is not clear and that she wouldn't risk the lives of her people over speculations.
Viren then decided to manipulate Aanya about the story of how her mothers and Queen Sarai died giving her lives to protect Katolis and Duren, knowing that she loved to know about her mothers. After the story was over and Aanya was lamenting over the deaths of her mothers, Viren asked if she understood why her mothers would help him in their war against Xadia.
While Aanya understood that Duren owe a lot to Katolis, she refused to go to war with Xadia, as she wouldn't pay that debt by sending a million men and women to die in violence, causing Viren to try to convince the other members of the Human Kingdoms to stay on his side, but they agreed with Aanya's ideas and that they shouldn't risk the lives of their people.
This would cause Viren to call them cowards and that they betrayed humanity. He then had the souls of Moonshadow assassins that were killed during the night King Harrow died and used them to try to kill the leaders of the Human Kingdoms, with King Florian and Queen Fareeda getting killed, and King Ahling getting gravely injured as a result.
Aanya was the only leader not greatly affected by the assassin sent to kill her, and was the only leader of the Human Kingdoms to not wage war on Xadia (outside of Ezran, but Katolis still went to war as he had to abdicate from his throne to protect his kingdom and causing Viren to take over).
Aanya would then find out about war being waged on Xadia, so she brought her army, Ezran's allies, and the soldiers of the Human Kingdoms who refused to join Viren to fight against Viren's army. When the magma Prince Kasef was going to kill Callum, Aanya killed Kasef and saved Callum.
After this, she went into the battle with her army and killed most of Viren's army, with her sparing those who were left and arresting them after the battle was over. Aanya is then seen bowing to Ezran in respect, and being happy when Zubeia awoke and saw her son Azymondias again, allowing peace to happen between elves, humans, and dragons.
