Biography[]
Backstory[]
Abby is the youngest sister of Mike Schmidt. Three years before her birth, while Mike was still a teenage boy, her other brother Garrett was taken away by a kidnapper and never found, which Mike blames himself for. Several years later, their mother would die of an illness, after which their father would somehow leave the picture (it's implied he either left the family or committed suicide), leaving Mike to take care of Abby by himself. Meanwhile, their aunt Jane would keep trying to take custody of Abby to gain monthly checks from the government. Abby would grow up a loner, not having many friends and preferring to draw pictures alone.
Five Nights at Freddy's[]
Throughout the first part of the movie, Abby serves a mostly supporting role. She has a babysitter named Max and claims to have friends no one else can't see (it's heavily implied they are not imaginary friends, but rather the ghosts of William Afton's victims). Once Max is unavailable (having been killed by Freddy Fazbear, to no one's knowledge), Mike is forced to bring Abby with him to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place, where he works as the security guard. When she starts wandering around the pizzeria, she is "attacked" by the animatronics, but it's revealed they were actually just playing together. Mike is surprised and scared to find out the robots are seemingly sapient, but lets it slide since they're not hurting Abby.
Next night, Mike and Abby return, where they're visited by officer Vanessa Shelly. Together, the three humans and four animatronics play together and build a fort, but Abby is shocked by Bonnie's guitar and briefly knocked out. Angered by the fact a child was harmed, Vanessa warns Mike to never bring Abby to the pizzeria again. Listening to this advice, the next night Mike has Abby stay at home with Aunt Jane while he goes to Freddy's. While she's in her room, Golden Freddy enters the house and kills Aunt Jane. He lies to her that Jane is "asleep" and the two go to Freddy's through a cab ride. Unbeknown to her, William Afton - the man who killed the children that are haunting the animatronics, as well as Garrett - is controlling the animatronics so that they would kill Abby and have her haunt an Ella suit. Thankfully, Mike comes to save her, tasing Chica right as she's about to stuff her into the suit.
The two siblings try to leave Freddy's, but are separated when Mr. Cupcake attacks Mike. As Abby runs away, Foxy starts hunting for her. Thankfully, she's saved by Vanessa, who is revealed to be Afton's daughter. Afton himself appears, wearing the Yellow Rabbit suit, and tries to kill everyone in the building. While he's distracted, Abby draws a picture of the Yellow Rabbit murdering the children, causing the animatronics to turn against him, having realised he's their murderer. Mike and Abby drag an unconscious Vanessa, who has been stabbed by Afton, out of the collapsing pizzeria as Afton has a springlock failure and is dragged away by the animatronics.
In the epilogue, it's revealed Abby is starting to gain new friends at school while Vanessa is still comatose. Abby wishes she can go visit the animatronics, with Mike saying it might happen.
Personality[]
Abby has shown herself to have a very compassionate, and creative personality, being one of the few characters who sees the animatronics not as killing machines, but for the tragic, misguided souls they really were. She's also shown herself to be generally anti-social, mostly keeping to herself and drawing,
Trivia[]
- It is speculated that she is an adaptation of Elizabeth Afton from the game series. Her name is a nickname for Elizabeth and an anagram of Baby, the animatronic Elizabeth ends up possessing. However, there are notable differences:
- Abby has brown eyes and hair instead of green eyes and blonde hair.
- Abby is unrelated to Afton, while Elizabeth is his daughter. That role seems to have been taken by Vanessa Shelly.
- Abby is American while Elizabeth is British.
- They don't share the same name, though it's possible Abby is a nickname for her full name, Elizabeth.
- The springlock suit she was being sacrificed into resembled the doll Ella, rather than Circus Baby..
