Professor Abraham Van Helsing is the main antagonist of Sony Pictures Animation's 16th feature film Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation and a supporting character in its sequel Hotel Transylvania: Transformania.
He is Dracula’s former archenemy, Ericka Van Helsing’s great-grandfather and the former most famous Monster Hunter of 19th century. He has dedicated his entire life to hunting monsters until Dracula did something good for him by saving their life, which also extended beyond his age by putting his body in a machine to live forever and then accepts. even that a relative of his marries a monster.
He is voiced by Jim Gaffigan; who also played the the same character in Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? .
Personality[]
In this incarnation, Van Helsing initially seems to hate Dracula for no reason other than the fact that he wrongly believes he is a threat to humanity, which has extended this hatred to other monsters as well as animals. Despite this, Van Helsing is completely clumsy and incompetent and would more likely destroy his own life rather than that of the monsters, which he regards as animals. He also became arrogant and myopic after studying engineering, archaeology (via ancient artifacts), and biology.
Abraham can also be very persistent, all of his failures discouraged him, but he never wanted to stop trying and even extended his life. But, then he regrets his actions of him for almost killing Erika for falling in love with Dracula, then after being saved by Dracula, he completely changes and apologizes to the monsters. In Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, he now proves himself to be kinder and more bearable than he was before, as he helps Johnny with the Transformer Ray.

He is the main antagonist, where he tries to hunt down Count Dracula again. However, he manages to redeem himself just after Drac saved him from a high fall from his defeat.
Hotel Transylvania: Transformania[]
He helps Johnny in transforming Dracula back to the vampire's normal self with the Transformer Ray.
Trivia[]
- With his redemption at the end of the third film, he became close to what his original basis was: a good guy.
