Ace Hart is the star and the main protagonist of the animated segments on Dog City.
Referred to as "Ace Hart, Private Eye Dog," he is a anthropomorphic German Shepherd private-eye detective who is ostensibly the creation of animator Eliot Shag. Within the animated Dog City, his chief adversaries are Bugsy Vile and his gang and the fiendish Baron Von Rottweiler. He fights crime with Eddie and police chief Rosie O'Gravy.
Ace Hart served in some respects as the idealized animated alter-ego of Eliot, and appeared in puppet form in "Sick as a Dog." The puppet, and the basic character, were revised versions of Ace Yu from the original Dog City special.
Personality[]
He is portrayed as suave, level-headed and charismatic as the town's well-known detective. Ace is so well-respected, that even Bugsy and Baron both admitted that Ace is a worthy opponent to them.
He is also snarky comic foil to Eliot; since Ace often exchanges wisecracks, advice, and has arguments with Eliot on an equal level. Where Ace is more of a man of action and dislikes constantly going into dangerous situations unarmed, where Eliot is a soft-spoken dog who prefers intelligent solutions over violence.
Ace is also subject to the whims of Eliot's sense of humor and at the mercy of his paintbrush, leaving Ace with no resort but a plaintive, pleading cry of "Eliot!".
He is also shown to be flirtatious yet chivalrous towards Chief Rosie. He may be interested in her, as he is often asking her out once the caper of the episode is over. However, when a love-stricken Eliot starts portraying Rosie as a seductive and clingy girl, Ace very quickly picks up on the fact it’s only because of Eliot’s newfound crush on Terri, and refuses to take advantage of her.
Ace doesn't like using guns and isn't supposed to, especially since he is relying on his wits to fight crime. In practice, when Eliot is forced to provide the bad guys with tommy-guns in "Ya Gotta Have Hart", Ace prefers a level playing field.
Appearance[]
He is very akinned to the classical detective, he is a tall, orange-brown furred dog who wears a tanned coat, a white business shirt underneath it, a grey-black hat, black pants and brown shoes.
