Hi! I'm Bat-Hound! I'm going to tell you a story! Sure.... I know you're going to say, how can a dog talk? But if you strain your imagination, you'll find you're able to understand me.

~ Earth-One Ace the Bat-Hound.
Ace the Bat-Hound is Batman's pet a fictional supporting character in the DC Comics, appearing as the canine crime-fighting partner of Batman and Robin, and member of the Batman Family. He notably appeared in Krypto the Superdog, an animated tv series following Superman's pet Krypto and his adventures.
He was created by Bill Finger and Sheldon Moldoff, and first appeared in Batman #92 in 1955. He is voiced by Frank Welker in Batman Beyond, Scott McNeil, in Krypto the Superdog, and Dee Bradley Baker in Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
He is a pet dog (though Ace says that he is Batman's partner) who has been reimagined as a few different dog breeds over the years. Although his most recent appearance is of a German Shepherd. Ace can occasionally be seen wearing a dark-colored cape and collar that resembles Batman's cowl.
Personality[]
He (like his owner Batman) possesses a stoic personality, but is very loyal to his owner and allies.
History[]
Pre-Crisis[]
On Earth-One, Ace was a German Shepherd who was originally owned by John Wilker, and the latter was kidnapped by gang of counterfeiters. Batman and Robin found Ace and had him try to locate Wilker, and when Bruce realized that he made a large number of "lost dog" announcements in his civilian identity, and decided to gave Ace a bat-like mask. Ace later gained the title "The Bat-Hound" by a criminal who was apprehended by both Ace and Batman, and the dog became a partner for the Dark Knight and the Boy Wonder. Though Ace was returned to Wilker, Batman and Robin would often borrow him whenever they needed his assistance to solve cases that involved tracking, and would return him to John. When Wilker got a job that made it difficult to take care of Ace, John gave him to Bruce, and didn't know that Bruce and Ace were crime-fighters.
Post-Crisis[]
On New-Earth, Ace was the partner of Batman and Dick Grayson's time as Robin, but he disappeared after the events of "No Man's Land".
DC Rebirth[]
On Prime-Earth, Ace was used by the Joker as attack dogs, but Ace and the other dogs were abandoned in a pit for unknown reasons. The dogs would attack each other, but Ace managed to be the only survivor and was rescued from the pit by Commissioner Gordon. Alfred Pennyworth would later adopt Ace, and paid a large donation to the dog pound where he got him from, renaming it the Martha and Thomas Wayne Humane Society.
Other Media[]
Krypto the Superdog[]
Ace the Bat-Hound makes occasional appearances and is once again a crimefighting ally of Batman—although the Dark Knight himself does not appear on the show. In this series, Ace, much like Batman, is equipped with various gadgets and equipment as an aid in his crimefighting efforts. In one episode, he met the Dog Star Patrol and helped them find their missing member Hot Dog. His enemies include The Joker's hyenasBud and Lou, The Penguin's trained birds (Artie the Puffin, Griff the Vulture, and Waddles the Penguin), and Catwoman's pet cat Isis (who flirts with Ace much like Catwoman flirts with Batman). Ace has a Batwoman-style glider he uses for more speed. He considers himself to be Batman's partner, rather than his pet.
Batman Beyond[]
He serves as a pet to Bruce, and sometimes a watchdog with Terry, the new Batman.
Trivia[]
His Second Voice Actor, Scott McNeil is best known for voicing Koga from InuYasha, and Foghorn Leghorn from Baby Looney Tunes.
