Shortly after, Jay is killed by the reappeared Ripper. At home, Bug starts to redo a class project, displaying Jay's creativity. At school, Brandon bullies Bug and Alex on orders from Fang, a tyrannical bully. Bug and Alex decide to spy on Fang to see if Brittany has a crush on him. During their surveillance, Fang cruelly accuses Bug of being in institutions for killing people. Bug starts unknowingly imitating the other members of the Riverton Seven, as well as Fang. Penelope, who predicted the Ripper's return and their deaths, is the next to die. Brandon and Brittany discover her body in the woods and are both stabbed to death as well. That night, Fang, revealed to be Bug's sister named Leah, gives Bug a birthday present: a rocking horse made by Abel Plenkov. She angrily reveals the long-hidden truth that they are his children and she is the daughter he tried to kill; Bug survived in his dead mother's womb, born prematurely. Everyone saw him as a miracle, causing Fang to resent him for life; she was traumatized by the event while he remained innocent of its memory. They reconcile, but are informed of the murders.
Alex pays a visit to a troubled bug, suspecting that the ripper's malevolent spirit has possessed one of the riverton seven, compelling them to commit the murders. downstairs, bug and fang come face to face with the ripper. just as bug is on the brink of being killed, a noise from upstairs distracts the ripper. bug returns to his room to find jerome, fatally wounded, hidden in his closet. after jerome passes away, alex proposes that bug has inherited dissociative identity disorder from his father, leading him to unknowingly carry out the gruesome acts. bug refutes this claim, believing that the souls of the dead seven now reside within him, assisting him in realizing that alex is the true host of the ripper's soul. "alex" confesses to his crimes and suggests framing fang for the murders, but bug refuses and fatally wounds alex. With the ripper's spirit vanquished, alex peacefully departs as himself, marking a bittersweet moment between lifelong friends.
bug anticipates being arrested, but fang decides to reveal the truth to the authorities, clearing bug of any wrongdoing. the townspeople hail bug as a hero, though he doesn't quite feel deserving of the title. he resolves to carry on, vowing to "fake it good" as a tribute to alex's legacy.
