Adam Warlock, known as Him by Raker, is a major character in the 2021 video game Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
Warlock was the former "Golden God" who served as the deific face of the Universal Church of Truth, as well as the former friend of its leader Raker. He was once worshipped by the Church's own followers, until his supposed demise following the events of the Galactic War. It was revealed that he was hiding within a space cocoon in Lamentis.
He was portrayed by Brent Skagford, who also portrayed the final form of Magus (in Warlock's body) in the same game (albeit uncredited).
Appearance[]
Warlock is a golden-skinned man with a gold hair, yellow eyes and a strange spot within his forehead, which housed the Soul Stone. In his first appearance Warlock had a back-length hair and a beard. He wears an outfit comprising of a black suit adorned with gold and red patterns, as well as a red cape.
Personality[]
Warlock is a kind and moral person, although he is not without his extreme condescension and arrogance, a trait that often annoys the Guardians including Rocket. He is also shown to be short-sighted, where it later escalated during their first encounter with him that devolved into a pointless fight, after Warlock blindly mistook them as Church's followers. He often uses a lot of alliteration and rhyming, with him speaking in a very formal, verbose way of talking. Warlock seemed to share part of his former followers' faith in his deity; on one occasion, he even referred to himself as a God.
In spite of his haughty and pompous demeanour, Warlock is a truly heroic and kind-hearted person who even calls the other Guardians his friends after joining them. He is humble enough to admit that he has made several mistakes and will go to great lengths to fix them, even being willing to absorb Magus back into himself, despite the risk of corruption to save the galaxy.
Background[]
Adam Warlock's past is mostly unknown, however it's rumoured that he was discovered in a cocoon that was drifting across space. One day, Raker and his team encountered the mysterious plague that struck the miners, and Warlock stumbled across them. When Warlock's followers grew, he promised to assist them by healing them.
Magus was soon unfortunately drawn to devour Raker's crew and all of creation by the darkness that was buried within the Soul Stone within Warlock. Raker was instructed to remove the Stone by Warlock since he understood he had to do so. Raker was able to liberate Adam from the Stone during the procedure, but he then utilized its power to create the Universal Church of Truth and rule the galaxy.
Adam Warlock took part in the Galactic War at one time and was thought to be dead, but it was later discovered that he had fled into hiding in Lamentis.
Trivia[]
- George Nagulov handled the head and hair for Adam's model, while Emmanuel Lecouturier created the outfit. Nagulov found it difficult to make golden skin appear attractive, but with Genci Buxheli's assistance, he ultimately succeeded.
