The Addams Family are the titular main protagonists of the franchise of the same name. The family is led by Gomez Addams and Morticia Addams.

Physical Appearances

The appearance of each member is different. However, they are all satirical inversions of normal American families. Because of this, many people get scared of them and falsely accuse them as evil-doers.

History

Creation

Back in New York 1938, the Addams Family was first created by the American cartoonist Charles Addams. Various amount of characters would appear in different medias (such as movies, TV Shows, books etc.), with Gomez and Morticia Addams, who are the core characters, and gave birth to Wednesday Addams and Pugsley Addams. During their first appearance, they first appeared in the comics and they were all nameless until their first television media appearance in 1964.

Family Relationship & Evolution

The family lives in a gloomy mansion in Westfield, New Jersey. In the early comic strip, they live in the part of the 0001 cemetery lane. Therefore, the new version, their address changed into 1313 cemetery lane, located right next to the Central Park. The Addams are not a family of monsters, they are much more loving, friendly, and welcoming. Morticia is exemplary and shows passion to Gomez and each other. Eventually, Gomez and Morticia betrothed to each other to marry which was supported by Grandmama Addams and Granny Frump. Since then, new members of the Addams Family joined in after the marriage, such as Gomez and Morticia's children, Wednesday and Pugsley Addams.

Personalities

According to Charles, each family member has slightly different personalities, Gomez and Pugsley are enthusiastic, Morticia and Wednesday are more mute and witty, and Grandma Frump has good-nature in a foolish way. And for Gomez, he was a sickly youth ever since he was a young person, and only gained health after marrying his wife.

• According to the Charles Addams himself, he had the idea to name Gomez Addams as either Repel Addams, Eeyore Addams, or Gomez Addams, but eventually couldn't decide, so he gave the choice to John Astin, who chose Gomez Addams.
