Order the fleet to disengage and retreat! Activate the Leviathan's warp field. Get us out of here!
~ Castor Dane ordering a retreat in the wake of Phaaze's impending destruction.

Fleet Admiral Castor Dane is the supporting character who made is only appearance in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. He is the leading commander of the G.F.S. Olympus, and he is dedicated in every way to the Galactic Federation and protects it from its foes.

He harbors a deep hatred of the Space Pirates, and his in-game scan gives off hints that he lost his family to them at a young age. While he is aggressive and stern, he can also be worried for the safety of his troops as well as Samus Aran, whom he holds in high regard.

He is voiced by Timothy Patrick Miller.

Biography[]

Admiral Dane is first seen on the G.F.S. Olympus with Gandrayda, Rundas and Ghor when Samus Aran joins them for a briefing. He tells them that the Space Pirates have stolen the Aurora Unit 313 and a corruption virus has been transplanted into the Aurora Unit Networks. He assigns them to deliver the vaccine to eliminate the virus, but he was interrupted when the Space Pirates invade the Olympus. He also offers assistance and updates to Samus during the invasion of Norion through the communication system.

Later on, Admiral Dane plays a larger role in the attack of the Pirate Homeworld, though it mostly consists of giving orders from behind the scenes. He gives Samus directions on shutting down its defenses and he later escorts the Demolition Troopers personally to the planet's surface. They would take control of a Leviathan Battleship and takes advantage of its ability to create wormholes and opens one to reach Phaaze, a sentient planet where all Phazon originates from and leads a full-frontal assault upon it as Samus enters the planet to deal with Dark Samus, and by extension, the corrupted Aurora Unit 313 personally, while risking potential terminal corruption upon herself through Phaaze's highly toxic atmosphere.

After Dark Samus and the Aurora Unit 313's final defeat at the hands of Samus, one of his soldiers detected spikes of energy within Phaaze creating a chain reaction that will inevitably result in explosion, which prompts Admiral Dane to issue a retreat and uses the wormhole to escape. There were damage reports of casualties consisting of 37% having fallen as a result. The concerned Admiral inquires of what became of Samus, which the soldier replies to by reporting that she still hasn't reported as a survivor, which causes him to start to fear the possibility that she didn't make it. He soon smiles in relief when he sees her Gunship flying by as she gives him a thumb's up while he salutes her. She sends the "Mission Complete" message to him as she flies off into the distance.

Trivia[]

  • Admiral Dane is one of the only characters in the Metroid series to use profanity due to exclaiming the d word during the Space Pirates' attack on the Federation Fleet at the beginning of the game. However, this was bowdlerized to "no!" when the game was re-released as part of the Metroid Prime Trilogy.
  • In the concept artwork, Castor Dane is seen with a cape and a prosthetic leg, both of which never made it into the game.
