~ Zaal'Koris explaining his unusual name to Shepard. |
Admiral Zaal'Koris vas Qwib-Qwib is a minor character in the Mass Effect trilogy. He is a member of the quarian Admiralty Board and head of the Civilain Fleet who is known for his advocacy against war with the geth, viewing them as sentient beings who exiled the quarians from Rannoch in self-defence. While initally the most vocal of the quarian admirals in favour of exiling Tali for treason in Mass Effect 2, talking with him privately reveals that despite disagreeing with her and her father's views, he deeply respects her and his wish to see her exiled is not personal. In Mass Effect 3, providing she was not exiled, Koris and Tali's relationship improves following her appointment to the Admiralty Board, with the latter's experiences with the geth platform Legion ultimately leading to her being the only admiral other than the former to vote against the war to retake Rannoch.
He is voiced by Martin Jarvis, who also voiced Alfred Pennyworth in the Arkham games.
Biography[]
Zaal'Koris controversially opposses the prospect of reclaiming the quarain homeworld of Rannoch, believing that geth were justified in exiling their creators, which he views as an act of self-preservation when the quarians attempted to deactivate them. As such, he instead advocates the the quarain race should settle and colonize a new world, which has earned him enemies in the form of his fellow admirals Han'Gerral and Rael'Zorah.
Whe Rael's daughter Tali is charged with treason for bringing active geth aborad the Migrant Fleet, Koris is in favor of declaring Tali guilty and exiling her from the fleet. He immediately objects to allowing Commander Shepard to defend her, declaring that as a human, they have no business being part of "such sensitive military matters"; in response, Admiral Shala'Raan reminds Koris was the one who delcared Tali part of the Normandy's crew instead of the Neema's, thus giving Shepard the right to defend her. If Legion is brought to the trial, Koris instead brings the geth's presence to the attention of security, accusing Tali of attempting to intimidate the admiralty by bringing it, only to withdraw his objection when Raan asks if he intends to question Captain Kar'Dana vas Rayya for allowing Legion onto the ship. In either scenario, Koris withdraws his objection.
When spoken to before leaving the Rayya to retake the Alarei, Koris expresses his views regarding the geth and his opposition to Tali and her father's plans against the. If Legion is present, Koris will ask the platform if the geth would be open to peace with the quarians, it responds that they will not unless they acquire additional data that indicates that the quarians believe that peace is possible and desirable, as they have always attacked the geth whenever they thought they had the advanatge. Koris admits that such odds make the argument for peace difficult, but declares that does not mean that the argument should not be made. Regardless of his views, he wishes Tali luck in ratking the Alarei, admitting that he does not hate her personally, but merely feels that her and her father's plans for war were wrong.
Koris is quick to conclude that Tali and Shepard has been killed in action on the Alarei, and advocates posthumously sentencing Tali to exile, despite Raan and Gerral's objection. Following Tali's trial, Shepard can priately speak to Koris once more, where they can either express support or condemnation for his geth sympathetic views.
