Hero Overview

Adonis is the main protagonist of the manga and anime series, The Kingdoms of Ruin. He is human raised by a witch, Chloe from a young age and embarks with her in a journey to find a normal life as her successor. However, one day, they are unfortunately captured by the ruler of Redia, Emperor Goethe who kills her in front of him. Since then, Adonis has been seeking revenge for the brutal execution of Chloe before getting imprisoned in the kingdom for the next ten years until he is one day freed by a prisoner, Doroka, a witch who was able to escape from the guards. Following her death, he is rescued by Doroka's friend, Anna, who cloned his body, thus making the kingdom believe that he is finally dead. Meanwhile, he is actually sent to the Witch Nation and intended to ressurect Chloe through his memories, but instead chose to revive Doroka as he believes Chloe would not want to.

He is voiced by Kaito Ishikawa in Japanese and Ben Stegmair and Brittney Karbowski as a young in English.

Appearance[]

Adonis is a pre-teen boy with messy black hair and red eyes.

Personality[]

Adonis harbors a similar view toward his own kind, the humans, just like how the humans view the witch species as they plan to eradicate them. He and Chloe had been living peacefully together until the day where they were confronted by Emperor Goethe. Adonis is careless in his actions as he tries to rush toward the king, believing that he could buy enough time for Chloe to escape only for him to get pinned down by guards. It was also observed when he used his phone to know their current location in an isolated place while not realizing that their location could be tracked down by others as said by Chloe. With the loss of his mentor who was executed right in front of him, he developed an even deeper sense of hatred with revenge toward the Redia society for not only losing Chloe but also the other members of the witch species who have met the same fate.

However, he does not completely deem witches as his allies, as he will not hesitate to harm them in case a witch ever blocks his objective. He is grateful to a witch, Doroka, who managed to free him after a decade of being imprisoned in a facility of the Redia Kingdom and breaks down in tear as she tells him that they have a chance to bring back Chloe.

After being freed by Doroka 10 years later, he is enraged and still has not forgot about the trauma he witnessed a decade ago. Now free again, he decides to use his power to commit the ultimate revenge against the Redia Empire with the intention of slaughtering every single civilians on sight, falling into his dark side.

Anna: Doroka died for you.

Adonis: Not my problem.

Aside for Chloe, Adonis is generally a selfish person who only cares for his ultimate revenge and did not even bother to feel sorry about the death of Doroka.

Background[]

A few years earlier before the story, Adonis struggled for survival and was an orphan sitting alone on the street before being found by Chloe and was invited to join in a journey alongside her. In present day, Adonis and Chloe are in the middle of a desert. Adonis notifies his mentor that they are out of water. Chloe scolds him for using his cell phone, telling him that they may get tracked down because of him. They discusses about how his life could be if he attented school as he questions how Chloe could be joyful while they are in such as circumstances. Out of a sudden, they sense enemy who are coming toward their direction. In response, Adonis attempts to take care of the enemy, but is stopped by Chloe, telling him that he is still too inexperienced. She easily takes out the enemy with her ice magic, resulting in Adonis to get mad her for once again not letting him to use his magic. Chloe consoles him as he burst crying. However unknown to them, the machine that are left by the enemy are activated, causing them to be teleported to the Redia Kingdom. They soon find themself in the stadium between the audience and its kingdom's ruler, Emperor Goethe who welcomes them.

Understanding their current situation, Adonis attempts to buy her time and tries to attack the king only to be restrained by his guards. Chloe orders them to let go of his successor before unleashing her ice magic only to realize that it is cancelled by the machine that human civilization have developped. The king slaps her and tears her clothing of. With no other options, Chloe request the king to spare Adonis and take her life instead. Goethe agrees as he pulls his gun out to point it at her head. Adonis watches in terror as she speaks her last words before getting shot in the head and constantly being pierced by more weapons fired by Goethe's soldiers. Adonis begs them to stop before a man wielding an axe walks up to behead Chloe's corpse for the king to grab her by the hair to show to the audience.

A decade later, a witch going by the name of Doroka managed to escape and free her comrades as well as Adonis who was locked for ten years and is now finally freed. He angrily murders the soldiers and frees Chloe before starting his brutal revenge against the Redia Empire.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • High Intelligence: Despite his careless demeanor, Adonis is shown to be skilled enough to even craft a smartphone himself to which he showed it to Chloe at the start of the series. Chloe was also impressed that Adonis could memorize the names of constellations that Chloe taught her and concluded that he is prodigy as a result of being taught by her.

Written-Style Summoning Magic[]

  • Gaine: Adonis shoots a bullet with a handgun and turns the fired projectile into a building's size.
  • Grande: Adonis summons a colossal knight at his command. The knight is highly defensive to most projectiles fired from guns. He first used the spell to start his murderous rampage across the Redia city.
  • Bullet Bell: Adonis generates two machine guns at his hands to be fired.
  • Cainz: Adonis stops all bullets that are once taken contact with his magic and turned them around to change their trajectory to be fired back at his victims.

  • Nostalgic Memories: With this spell, Adonis is capable of restoring the life of a witch back. Although, he could have used this on Chloe but chose instead to revive Doroka, as he believes that Chloe would not want to.
  • Caliburn: Adonis creates an immense sword right on top of his targets to chop them as the weapons falls on them barelly before they could react, as showcased toward General Yamato.
  • Fal: A telekinesis spell. Adonis can move and interact with objects from a far range. He used this again against Yamato to kill him with his own gun.

Equipments[]

  • Magical Quill: At some in his journey with Chloe, she crafted the quill herself and gave it to Adonis, an artifact that he deeply treasures. The quill is made of a golden handle, a red orb in the middle that is a dragon eye and is comprised of phoenix feathers with magic-imbueded in it. The magic tool generates numerous lines of a script from the universe, which can act as defensive spells as well as being capable of touching projectiles such as bullets to change their direction.
