Adora Belle Dearheart is a character of Terry Pratchett's novels. In the film, she was played by Claire Foy.

Biography[]

She's firstly introduced in Going Postal. She was the daughter of Robert Dearheart, who invented the semaphore company, and the brother of John Dearheart. Later, her father lost his company to Reacher Gilt (a very greedy and cruel magnate; in the film it happened because of Moist von Lipwig's actions) and her brother was murdered. She became a very cynical person due to that. She founded the Golem Trust, where she protected the rights of the golems (humanoid servants made from mud). But she has to defend it with a crossbow due to the building being constantly vandalized. One day, she meets Moist von Lipwig, who became the postmaster recently. During the Going Postal events, the semaphore company was returned to her. She also appears in some other novels about Moist von Lipwig. For example, in Making Money, she sends some hundreds of golems to help Lipwig in his adventures.

Personality[]

Initially, Adora was an ordinary girl from a rich family. However, the loss of her father's semaphore company and the death of her brother (which was behind Reacher Gilt, as it turned out), she became a sarcastic and cynical bitch, who, however, was not alien to a heart of gold. She helped the golems sincerely (presumably without asking for anything in return). However, she was forced to defend herself from angry golem haters who believed that golems were taking jobs away from ordinary people. These golem haters even broke the windows of the place where she worked. It was for this reason that she kept a crossbow at her work place. However, when Moist approached her for advice, she was somewhat polite to him. She liked him immediately. Later, he helped her regain her family's company, which brought them even closer together. Gradually she began to get kinder. According to the books, she sometimes came to the aid of Mohist when he needed it.
