Agatha Gillman is the deuteragonist of the DreamWorks' 44th full-length animated feature film Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken.

She is an anthropomorphic Kraken and former war veteran who came to the surface world after Queen Nerissa's previous defeat, where she now works as a real estate agent, in which she is the owner of Gillman Real Estate. While doing so, she's also trying her best to keep her family from being attacked by serious threats, fearing that it'll be like living her old glory days. She is also the mother of Ruby and Sam, the husband of Arthur, the daughter of Grandmamah and the older sister of Brill.

She is voiced by Toni Collette, who also voiced Mary Daisy Dinkle in Mary and Max.

Appearance

Agatha is a tall and slim kraken. In her normal form, Agatha has an aquamarine skin, purple tentacle hair, and turquoise eyes, she wears glasses, earrings, has a purple lipstick on her lips, she dons a hazelnut suit and ballerina flats, stockings, and she has ears that look like pectoral fins.

In her Kraken form, Agatha has 6 tentacles (2 arms and 4 legs) with 4 fingers on each, pink glowing skin, and small spots all around her body to resemble a symmetrical design, small spiky shoulder pads and longer hair.

Personality

She is very lovable and protective mother, but tries to hide the truth from her daughter Ruby. She lies to her daughter about her past life. She used to be a skilled warrior fighting Mermaids and hid the Trident so that mermaids wouldn't be able to use it. She is also concerned when Ruby is friends with a mermaid and realized she should have told Ruby the truth about her past life and that she was royalty. She didn’t get along with her mother, but after defeating Nerissa, their relationship seems to be healing.

Biography

Past

During her heydays as a warrior princess underwater, Agatha was an exceptional Kraken fighter. Having a conflict against mermaids for millenia, Agatha was able to fend them off for her kind. After Nerissa's previous defeat, however, she later made the decision to renounce her life in the underwater kingdom, where she can live as an ordinary citizen in the surface world, something that her mother Grandmamah wasn't too fond of at first.

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken

In the present day, Agatha is currently working as a real estate agent in Oceanside. She is first seen being asked by her daughter Ruby about attending the prom that's atop a boat, where she denies it, stating that it's "what's best" for her family in regards to their current life on the surface world. She also did her best to hide her daughter's royal lineage as a warrior princess.

When Ruby's kraken heritage bloomed inside her, Agatha then decides to comfort her daughter, causing said daughter to revert back to her normal size.

"I sacrificed everything to give you this "fake" life."

Agatha shocked as Ruby starts to lose her temper

Agatha looks at Ruby she tells her that she's going to change things, whether she helps her or not

"Ruby, I get it. You're angry. You want to fight? So did I when I was your age. But trust me, this is the wrong fight. You're on the wrong side."

"Oh, yes I can. I am still your mother. You are forbid from going into the ocean again. NOW GO HOME AND CLAM DOWN!!!"

Agatha utterly shocked as Ruby loses her temper and storms off

Agatha looks down after Ruby angrily leaves

Agatha realizes how her lies went too far

"15 years and she still has her tentacles around me."

As Arthur asks about Ruby, Agatha tells him that she doesn't want to talk to her now

"I'm gonna deal with my mother."

"MOTHER!!!"

"STAY AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER!"

"The difference is I didn't raise my daughter to be a reflection of my glory."

"You still think I was scared to fight?"

"You think it was easy to start over? To risk everything? I never stop fighting. I fight for my family. I fight for who I love."

"You? You just love to fight!"

Agaths tells Grandmamah that Ruby made friends with a mermaid

"Yes, the daughter of the mermaid queen."

Agatha listening to her mom as she tells her a wham line about Chelsea

After Grandmamah reveals the truth, a shocked Agatha realizes that Chelsea is not who she says she is and that she's using Ruby

Agatha get mad at Nerissa.
