Ai Katai

Ai Katai is a supporting character in the Japanese romantic comedy anime and manga series Komi Can't Communicate. She's a middle school girl, the younger sister of Makoto Katai, who's in high school, and is a tomboyish delinquent, who is extremely skilled in Kendo, and is seen as unapproachable by a lot of people. She ends up falling in love with Shousuke Komi, which thus makes her love rival of Hitomi Tadano, who also likes him, although Hitomi doesn't seem to realize that Ai sees her as a rival.

Appearance[]

Katai Ai looks like a bosozoku (biker gangster), wearing a tokkofuku (Japanese combat uniform that bikers used). This gives everyone the impression that she is a 'hardliner', which is the impression she is trying to give off. Her face looks rough, similar to Makoto, except when she swoons over Shousuke it looks normal. She has lightly colored hair, possibly blonde. She is also implied to be cute as commented by Shousuke's mom in chapter 207. In chapter 344 she cuts her hair and ends up with it in a bob-cut.

Personality[]

Ai Katai is a tomboy who is often seen being angry, confrontational, and unapproachable. She's similar to her older brother, Makoto Katai in that way, but while Makoto is secretly soft and gentle on the inside, this is, for the most part, Ai Katai's true personality, so mcuh that even her brother is afraid of her, (and she's more skilled and stronger than her brother, too). Although she does have a softer side, but it's one that she herself seems to not want to acknowledge exists, even to herself. She can be extremely adorable, and she does seem to have a subconscious desire for cute things, a well as for romance. As such, she fell in love with Shousuke Komi. She developed these feelings because she saw him always being quiet as badass and cool, while in reality he's just antisocial and wants to be left alone. This puts her into conflict with Hitomi Tadano, whom spends a lot of time with Shousuke, and this makes Ai jealous. Because of this, Ai considers Hitomi to be her love rival, though Hitomi doesn't seem to realize Ai's perspective.
