Thierry Morello, also known as Aiber or Eraldo Coil, is a supporting character in the Yotsuba arc of Death Note. He is a conman who works for L and helps him take down the Yotsuba Kira.

Biography[]

Aiber was once a criminal though at some point he ended up in contact with L who found evidence against him, enough to out him away for life according to Aiber himself, so AIber started working under L, something he didn't actually dislike because it was fun.

During the Kira case, after Aizawa quit and the NPA withdrew official support, L brought Aiber and Wedy on and invited them to their headqaurters. L, upon realizing the Yotsuba Group's connection to Kira, asks Aiber to contact Yotsuba VP Masahiko Kida posing as Eraldo Coil in order to infiltrate Yotsuba. Aiber calls Kida from France and tells him he will help the Yotsuba Group discover L's identity for 10 million with 2 million paid in advance. If he refuses the offer, he still expects the 2 million in exchange for his silence. The Yotsuba Group accepts this after some deliberation and asks Aiber to come to their office in person which he accepts in exchange for another 2 million which they agree to pay. He also tells them that Misa had been detained by L to get them to accept her application to work with them so they can gleam information from her. After finishing his call with the Yotsuba Group, L tells Aiber to be careful though he retorts that he likes living life on the edge.

Aiber appears the next day at the Yotsuba office. Ooi, Shimura, Higuchi and Mida of Yotsuba Group bring Aiber, who poses as a marketing advisor named John Wallace, to interview Misa though their exchange had already been prepared previously. Aiber, still posing as Wallace, tells Misa that he knows she supports Kira from having interrogated her sister and has heard she was detained by L which impresses the Yotsuba Group and she gives their pre-rehearsed response.

Later on after Misa learns that Higuchi is the Yotsuba Kira, Aiber participates in the task force's operation to arrest Higuchi by hiding in the office of Yoshida Productions alongside Mogi, waiting for Higuchi to reveal his killing method so they can grab him though he doesn't, forcing them to wait. When L orders Higuchi's immediate arrest after he gains the Shinigami Eyes, Mogi and Aiber tail him until he reaches Sakura TV where they try to arrest him but Higuchi escapes after shooting Soichiro Yagami, forcing them to continue pursuing him with Aiber taking his gun. Aiber fires a shot at Higuchi but misses though they suceed in capturing him later on.

After Higuchi is captured and killed, Aiber presumably returns to whatever he was doing prior to L's summons until he is killed by Light by writing his name in the death note in an effort to eliminate lose ends. In the manga, Aiber dies of liver cancer in the hospital surrounded by his family. In the anime, he dies of alcohol poisoning.
