Airi Sakura is a major character in the manga, light novel, and anime series Classroom of the Elite. She was a student of Class 1-D at Advanced Nurturing High School. At some point in her 2nd Year, she was expelled due to having the lowest score of her class, as caused by Kiyotaka Ayanokōji of the same class.
She is voiced by Mao Ichimichi or M・A・O in Japanese and by Leah Clark in English.
Appearance[]
Airi is a teenage girl of average height with waist-length pink hair tied in low twin pigtails and swept bangs on the left side. She has gradient blue eyes and a well-endowed figure, comparable to that of Honami Ichinose. If she were as confident as Honami, her popularity could have been on the same tier. Airi is considered highly attractive, having received advances from a sales clerk and several classmates.
Airi wears red glasses, which Kiyotaka later reveals to be fake. After an incident where she was assaulted, she abandoned her glasses in favor of showing her true self, but kept them nonetheless. Outside of school, Airi wears a white shirt with red sleeves and blue pants. She has also been seen wearing a rash guard swimsuit at the pool.
Personality[]
Sakura exhibits a shy and frail demeanor, being the main issue of why she ended up in Class-1D. Despite her social anxieties, as seen during her nervousness around her class at the pool, she possesses an exceptional ability to read others. Despite her inherent shyness and naivety, Airi is sincerely a kind, benevolent, dedicated girl with the intention of helping others in needs. Her growth, influenced by Kiyotaka, has made her more persistent, self-confident, and reduced her naiveness. While Horikita has a more favorable opinion of Sakura, she sometimes views her as less engaging due to her timid nature. Her abilities to read others can be exhibited when she perceived Kikyō Kushida’s hidden malicious side. She can be brave especially it can seeing when she helped one student proofing his innocence in fight between others.
Airi enjoys taking self-portraits, always appearing cheerful in her photos. However, this does not stem from narcissism but rather from the praise she receives from anonymous strangers. She also shows enthusiasm in photographing Kiyotaka and admires his cool demeanor. Her digital camera is precious to her, as she was distraught when it needed repairs after a fall. Following a traumatic experience with a stalker and her subsequent rescue by Kiyotaka, she decided to reinvent herself by discarding her glasses and embracing the attention she attracts.
By Volume 6, Airi overcame her fear of socializing and requested to join the Ayanokōji Group. She even went out for a movie with them and became close friends with Haruka Hasebe, who understood her feelings towards Kiyotaka and teased her about it.

Airi Sakura is a photographer who was placed into Class-D, due to her fear and nervousness, causing her to have difficulties communicating and interacting with others. She dislikes standing out and preferes to take modeling pictures.
Abilities[]
Despite not having relatively high grades, Airi exhibits can be cooperation and intelligence. When she knows her danger is expelling she joins to Kiyotaka's group during the Paper Shuffle special exam to avoid expulsion. Airi is generally not very good either in athleticism, as shown by how she came in last during the practice races for the Sports Festival’s girls 100m dash.
