Heroine Overview

To the me... in the future... you... now... with a life full of happiness, never forget that on this day I gave you the opportunity through my sheer willpower to make it through this!! This debt is enormous. If you do not live a fulfilling life, I will never forgive you!!
~ Heiya recording a message to her future self during her first game (in the manga).
My future self owes me one. The only reason I'm here now is that I worked so hard to survive then! So I swore that I'm never going to die. I'll survive no matter what.
~ Heiya's determination to live.

Akane Heiya is a major character of the manga series and Netflix show Alice in Borderland. She is a strong-willed high schooler that learned how to survive in the Borderlands after losing her leg during a traumatic experience in the Seven of Spades game. She later allies with Morizono Aguni to hunt the King of Spades.

She is portrayed by Tsunematsu Yuri. In the English dub, she is voiced by Holly Gauthier-Frankel.

Appearence[]

Heiya is a young woman with straight black hair. She wears a white t-shirt and a skirt from her high school uniform. She has a mole on her left cheek. Her left leg is covered in a beige cloth bandage that stops at her shin, which is amputated and replaced with a Flex-Foot Cheetah after the Seven of Spades game. Additionally, the same bandage is also found in her left arm, with a brown cuff. She welds a large thick white and maroon bow, with a navy bag that contains multiple arrows.

Personality[]

Heiya has a confident attitude. She is determined to live, as shown in the Seven of Spades game. She can be initially rude, although she is a nice person at heart.

Similar to Shuntarō Chishiya and Suguru Niragi, despite forgetting her time in the Borderlands, Heiya ultimately came out of the experience as a better person, as shown years later, where she's now an influencer in the real world.

Biography[]

Prior to being transported to the Borderlands, Heiya was a high school student. In the flashback, she is shown walking around with her female friends, who were complimenting her nails, before a group of guys approached them and invited them to a BBQ party. Heiya refused, explaining that it was the anniversary of her mother's death, but quickly revealed that she was not bothered by it in the slightest, expressing her annoyance and disrespect towards her late mother. Rudely rejecting the guys, Heiya and her friends left, then grabbed some drinks and started gossiping, walking towards Shibuya. Suddenly, a loud noise interrupted them, and they saw the fireworks.

Next thing she knew, she was in a huge stadium, surrounded by other people, but none of her friends seemed to be nearby. There was a big screen, instructing everyone to gather in the middle of the field, and a white table with 17 phones. Heiya was the last to grab one, wondering what the "game" meant, and an older person advised her to clear the game if she wanted to survive. The game difficulty was revealed as Seven of Spades and the rule was to escape the venue. As soon as the ground started shaking, Heiya ran, and the underground geysers started breaking the surface and flooding the arena, one of them eventually erupting in front of her and causing her to fall down under the stadium. She lost consciousness and then, as she woke up, she realized that her left shin had been impaled by a metal rod. Seeing dead bodies in boiling water, Heiya started panicking and crying, but then tried to collect herself in order to free her leg from the rod. After covering the wound with her shirt, she noticed a vent leading up, so she crawled there in order to escape.

Having crawled out to a more open space, Heiya found herself on a rock and looked down at the boiling water. She noticed her mother standing there and calling out her name, asking her to come down. Unsure whether to trust the ghost, Heiya jumped anyway and ended up in a pool that was not hot, so she managed to get out of the building as the only survivor of the game.

Using a piece of metal as a crutch, Heiya arrived at a building. She noticed that her injury was becoming infected due to the color, so she got worried it would kill her and started looking for medicine. A drunk man in medical attire came up to her and stated that her leg was beyond saving, but he refused to help her for free and looked at her skirt, hinting at a sexual intercourse as payment for his services. Desperate for help, Heiya agreed and urged him to do something about her leg.

Abilities[]

  • Agility: Her agility and acrobatic abilities are a key part of her character, and her surname is a play on the word "hare," which is often associated with speed and agility.
  • Archery: Heiya is exceptionally skilled in archery, using it as her primary means of defense and offense.
  • Survival Skills: She demonstrates strong survival instincts, consistently finding ways to persevere in the Borderland's deadly games.
  • Resourcefulness: Heiya's ability to find solutions and utilize her environment makes her a formidable opponent.

Trivia[]

  • Akane's surname Heiya is a combination of the kanji "wall, fence" (塀) (hei) and "valley" (谷) (ya).
  • She spent a total of 55 days in the Borderlands.
