Akitaru Ōbi is the major supporting character in the 2015 Japanese dark fantasy manga series Fire Force and its 2020 anime television series adaptation of the same name. He is the captain of Tokyo's Special Fire Force Company 8.
Bio[]
Akitaru is a former firefighter as well as the founding Captain of Company 8. He lacks superpower, but he makes up for it in muscle and charisma. He is determined to amass a Company capable of uncovering the truth behind the Infernals and save the world.
Abilities[]
Despie having no powers, Akitaru is, without a doubt, the physically strongest of his company due to all of his hard work that includes working out. In a unit filled with powerful, well-trained pyrokinetics, he was the only one who could fight evenly with an enraged fellow captain Shinmon Benimaru and earn his respect when all of his subordinates were defeated in seconds.
Personality[]
Though powerless and lacking an Ignition ability which also includes fearing death, Akitaru is a very strong-willed courageous person, who is able to face Infernals and ability users. He strongly believes in justice and doesn't tolerate evil-doers whatsoever and believes whoever is causing trouble in the world must be stopped. Akitaru has a highly ethical attitude, which makes him have a nonchalant perspective of things and isn't really that bothered by matters that would annoy the average commander. But he could usually get angered by people who disrespect the feelings of bereaved, even if it's his comrades. If they go too far, he believes they have no place on the team. As a fire soldier, he views the cleansing of Infernals as an act of murder. He believes that he should always consider the feelings of those close to the victims of Spontaneous Human Combustion and will try to end their suffering as soon as possible. He wants to find the truth about the cause of the Infernals, so he can exactly save lives of the victims. He is a trusting good natured person that he is even willing to risk his own life to protect anyone that is in danger. According to Shinra, he is humble and kind person and questioned whether he would get angry. The Company 8 is very loyal to him due to this. These traits means that Akitaru is a very charismatic individual. Despite of his good sense of justice, he seems to have lack of intelligence according to Captain Hibana, the captain of Company 5. Even Joker considers Akitaru a model firefighter who is willing to place his own life before others and to make sure they are safe, showing that he is a very selfless person with a good heart.
He is usually seen working out, such as doing pull-ups or lifting dumbbells, even during meetings he is still shown working out. He takes his role as the captain seriously and will get angered if Company 8's hijinks go too far, this happened when the girls and Shinra went shopping for Hinawa due to his bad fashion, he sternly told Hinawa that his outfit is too unprofessional which lead him yelling at the younger members due to their lack of seriousness. Though he is serious and strong-willed, he can tend to joke around with comrades from time to time.
