Akito Hyuga is the titular main protagonist in the OVA Series Code Geass: Akito the Exiled. He is a former Eleven (Japanese person) who is now fighting for the Europia United in their fight against Britannia as a Knightmare pilot. He is the half-brother of Shin Hyuga Shaing, the current leader of the Knights of St. Micheal. He is part of a unit called the W-0, a group of young exiles from Area 11 (Formerly Japan). He is also known to his enemies as "Hannibal's Ghost."
He is voiced by Miyu Irino in the Japanese version of the OVA, and by Micah Solusod in the English version of the OVA.
Appearance[]
Akito is a young man with blue eyes, fair skin and long spiky blue hair. For most of the episodes he wears the back of his hair in a long pony tail that goes down to his waist. He is mostly seen in an EU army uniform, but he is also seen in a piloting suit and gypsy clothes.
Personality[]
Akito Hyuga at first comes across as edgy and even mentally unstable, as he enjoys battles intensely. In normal situations, he has a lack of emotion and doesn't show it or express them in anyway. When he is under the effects of Geass, he becomes much more bloodthirsty and is willing to brutally kill his enemies such as when he uses his Knightmare Frame to target the cockpits of his enemies' Knightmare Frames in the battlefield. He claims that he "died before " and claims to see the spirit of his fallen comrades. This seems to show his mental instability. It would seem that he possess a strong hatred towards his half-brother, Shin Hyuga Shing for reasons unknown, as seen when Akito met his brother again his calm demeanor was turned into rage. He claims that he would kill his brother the next time they would meet. Overall, he is jaded, edgy, and cynical with a bloodthirsty streak.
As the story progresses and he spends more time with his comrades, Akito slowly opens himself and his inner, more softer self rises to the surface. His conversation with Leila during their time with the gypsies reveal himself to be a deeply traumatized figure. He was emotionally and psychologically wounded by his brother murdering their whole family and trying to kill him. His sadism is the result of Shin's Geass not working properly and is not of his own choice. This confession and Leila's comfort of him help him become better.
Spending more time with Leila, Ryo, Ayano and Yukiyah further helps him come out of his jadedness and becomes more kind and accepting of others. Even his hatred of Shin is greatly decreased, fighting him out of necessity rather than hatred. By the end of the story, Akito has become an openly caring and loving person who deeply appreciates his friends and comrades, a complete 180 from the person he was in the beginning.
