Akiyu, also known as Tidebound Tina, is a minor character in the Netflix TV Show The Dragon Prince. She is an ocean archmage, who was behind the creation of Aaravos' prison. She was killed by Claudia after the Startouch Elf she had imprisoned freed himself, in order to prevent her from doing so again.
She is voiced by Julie Lemieux.
Biography[]
Backstory[]
Not much is known about Akiyu's past, but at some point in her life, she became an archmage of the ocean. During her childhood, she was called Tidebound Tina by her friends. When Avizandum had the Jailer make a prison to hold Aaravos, she worked with Akiyu to build it. However, Akiyu accidentaly saw the location of the prison.
The Jailer found out about this, and threatened to have her killed by the archdragons. To convince the Jailer to let her live, Akiyu made a promise that she would die before revealing the information about Aaravos, to which the Jailer agreed. Akiyu would later disappear from any record in history.
The Dragon Prince[]
When Ezran went to talk to Domina Profundis about Claudia and Viren wanting to free Aaravos, so Domina tells them about Akiyu. Team Zym would later go to meet her, and during this, they were surrounded by carrion gulls, but Akiyu would appear and scare the gulls off.
After this, Ezran would ask if she was Akiyu, but she joked it off and asked if she looked like a legendary archmage. He would then ask if they could meet Akiyu, which made her start talking to a shell to make it look like she was talking to Akiyu, and told them that Akiyu didn't want to talk to them and refused to give Callum the shell.
Despite this, Team Zym would go to meet Akyiu anyway, so she warned them that if they did, she would them, and if they aren't killed, Akyiu would kill her, although they didn't stop. In a cave, Akiyu told Team Zym that they wouldn't be able to go any further due to their inability to breathe under water, but they still try it and all of them are able to reach further into the cave.
Akiyu then brings them to a creature, and apologizes for not being able to convince them to leave. The teeth of the creature then closes and all the member of Team Zym except Soren are trapped. To escape, Zym used his electrokinesis to force the creature to throw up, which works.
Callum then realizes that Tidebound Tina was Akiyu. Ezran then confronts on why she tried to kill them, with her saying that she didn't want to, but they gave her no choice. She then tells Team Zym about her deal with the Jailer. After this, she drinks a potion, which Ezran thought was poison.
After Ezran told her that dangerous people were after Aaravos, Akiyu decided to tell them where the prison's location was, in the middle of the Sea of the Castout. Ezran then asked if there was anything they could do to stop the poison before she died, but she told him that it wasn't poison she drank and it was actually magi-kelp glow juice, which she then gives to Soren.
Akiyu then gives Callum an amulet, but she refused to tell him what it was for, before telling Team Zym to leave. It was later revealed that the amulet was so Team Zym would be able to breathe under water, as the location of Aaravos' prison was deep in the ocean. Aaravos was eventually freed from his prison by Claudia, and in order to prevent Akiyu from being able to imprison him again, had Claudia kill her.
Personality[]
Akiyu is an eccentric individual who tends to be dramatic at times. She is also shown to be annoyed when people make her too many questions for her liking, such as initially trying to give Callum advice only to reveal that it was for him to stop talking, and demanding Team Zym to leave her cave after Callum asked what the amulet she gave him was used for. Despite this, she is shown to care for other people, and saved Team Zym when they were attacked by carrion gulls.
She also shows an honorable side, trying her best to keep her promise to the Jailer. Although she didn't enjoy it and tried to convince them multiple times to not try to find where Aaravos' prison was, she was willing to get Team Zym killed to make sure the world wouldn't be in danger, although after finding out that people were already aware of Aaravos' location, she decided to tell Team Zym about it so they could stop Claudia from reaching it first.
