Alador Blight is a supporting character in the Disney Channel animated series, The Owl House.
He is the ex-husband of Odalia Blight, the father of Emira, Edric, and Amity Blight, and the former chief engineer at Blight Industries. As a member of the Boiling Isles' Abomination Coven, he built the Abomatons provided for the Emperor's Coven. However, after discovering the true intentions of Emperor Belos, he redeemed himself and helped Amity and her friends save her girlfriend, Luz Noceda, from him.
He is voiced by Jim Pirri.
Appearance[]
Alador is a tall, pale-skinned witch with unkempt brown hair, golden eyes, and a light beard around his mouth. He wears a dark blue, yellow-buttoned, and gray-belted coat covered with patches of purple abomination fluid, a pair of baggy white pants, and black boots with pink patches on them. He also wears a gold-rimmed, purple-spectacled pair of goggles.
Personality[]
Alador is a clumsy, easily distracted scientist. If something catches his attention, it can be quite hard for others to get him to focus on anything else. He doesn't seem to be very talkative, as he only speaks when necessary. When asked questions by others, such as Luz, he is as direct and concise as possible. Alador mostly lets his wife take the lead in situations, helping her with whatever she tells him to do, but he does have a limit. This is shown when Odalia tries to go back on her deal with Amity, and Alador reminds her that their family always honors their deals, indicating he has a sense of integrity and honor.
Alador also seems to object to his wife's willingness to put others in danger for profit. This is shown when an injured Luz claims the abomination-powered robot has more than proven its strength to the spectators, and Alador tells his wife that Luz "has a point". Alador cares about Amity, as well as her progress, as indicated by his smile when Amity stands up to Odalia and almost destroys the abomination he created. This is also shown when Amity helps him take down Warden Wrath together, making a proud expression.
Alador expresses shock when he learns that Amity no longer wants to join the Emperor's Coven, in addition to the fact that she is dating Luz, realizing that he hardly pays his children any attention because he is too focused on his work. Feeling regret over how he treated Amity, Alador begins to see her for who she wants to be, admitting that he likes her new hair color and resolving to speak with Odalia about attempting to dye her hair green again. Although Amity doesn't fully forgive him, she appreciates that he's trying to be better, saying that "it's a start".
After getting on a new start with Amity, Alador slowly resolves to pay more attention to his children and defy his wife's control. Tired and overworked by Odalia, he reflects on his marriage, feeling miserable and unaccomplished. Eventually, Odalia's intentions on keeping Amity, Luz, and their friends prisoner while helping Belos exterminate their species for her own personal gain causes Alador to snap, and he finally stands up to Odalia, destroying the Blight Industries warehouse and disabling the rest of the Abomatons. He also quits his post at Blight Industries, slowly developing and turning over a new leaf for the greater good. Alador also seems to have grown fond of Luz, inviting her to stay at Blight Manor anytime (although an illusion then reveals that Luz is actually Hunter, shocking him).
History[]
Not much is known about Alador's past other than the fact that he attended Hexside School of Magic and Demonics with his future wife, Odalia, and his friend, Darius Deamonne, although his relationship with the latter apparently soured in their later life. Prior to joining the Abomination Coven, marrying Odalia, and having children, he was also the champion of the Bonesborough Brawl and was a witness to Eda Clawthorne's first transformation into the Owl Beast. Alador would often bend to Odalia's will when it came to their children, such as going along with her cutting their youngest daughter Amity's contacts with Willow Park and forcing her to befriend Boscha.
During the series, Alador makes his debut in the flesh in "Escaping Expulsion" alongside his wife. They are showcasing his latest Abomaton creations with Amity, only for her interest in her friends to cause her to botch the presentation, resulting in her parents having her friends expelled from Hexside so she isn't distracted further. Her lover, Luz Noceda, offers to serve as the new presenter in return for their place at the school being reinstated. When the showcase turns violent, Amity swoops in to save Luz from the Abomatons. At the episode's end, Alador convinces Odalia to honor her end of the deal and let Amity interact with her friends again because they could help her develop into a powerful coven leader. The Golden Guard also comes to the Blights to buy every single Abomaton to work under Emperor Belos' orders.
Later in the episode "Reaching Out", Amity asks Alador if she can enter the Bonesborough Brawl. He rejects this request and instead sends her off to the Coven tryouts under an Abomaton's watch. However, with the help of Luz, Emira, and Edric, Amity wards off the Abomaton and competes in the brawl anyway. However, the Abomaton returns, prompting Luz to try to stop it, only to accidentally activate its alarm, alerting Alador to Amity as he arrives at the brawl to forfeit the match and bring her back. Enraged, Amity runs off instead, much to Alador's confusion. Later, due to a series of events that result in Warden Wrath, the brawl's champion, being transformed into a dragon, Alador tries to stop him. While he initially rejects Amity's help, when she insists, he ultimately relents as the two restrain Wrath as Eda and Luz return him to normal.
Powers and abilities[]
- Magic: As a witch, Alador is able to use magic. Like most witches, his connection to magic comes from a sac of magic bile attached to his heart.

Due to his expertise in the track, he is responsible for developing the abomination-based weapons of Blight Industries, such as the Abomaton. He is just as adept at using abominations for combat as he is at engineering them. Alador's eyes can also glow orchid if he is using high amounts of his magic, allowing him to perform spells without a spell circle, as shown when he fights Odalia.
- Abomination transportation: Alador can use abomination matter to travel from place to place.
- Abomination walls: Alador can create a wall out of abomination matter to impede enemies.

- Prowess in Battle: Alador is a skilled fighter. In his youth, he won the Bonesborough Brawl, during the same event decades later he easily defeated Warden Wrath and later subdued the warden after he was mutated, with the help of Amity. Even when under the effects of the Draining Spell, he was still able to take out multiple abomitons on his own.
