"He's their problem now."
~ Alan talking about Jake's mistake in the military's kitchen.
Alan: I'm not cheap, I'm broke! There's a difference
Charlie: He was cheap long before he was broke
~ Charlie discussing Alan with Jake

Alan Harper is a main character and minor antagonist and anti-hero from the TV show titled Two And A Half Men. He lives in what is now Walden Schimdt's home, that was once owned by Charlie Harper before he died in the show. He still lives with Jake who is his son and Jake is now in the military. He is portrayed by Jon Cryer.

In the first few seasons he was a chiropractor however he lost this job somewhere around the end of the series

Personality

Alan is notoriously known for his penny-pinching ways, along with his cheapness and ability to mooch of others, although he's expected to Alan rarely or never actually pays for anything which goes from dinner to a pizza, single-handedly Alan was able to live rent-free in a Malibu beach-house with his son which was owned by his brother and later again by the billionaire Walden Schmidt who later became his closest friend. Depsite his cheap ways and while other people (mostly) his brother would describe him as a "parasitic leach" Alan is an extremely well-read man with an experienced vocabulary and is extremely literate but this led others to think that he was gay but he would only reply for him being metrosexual.

Alan can be a little bit of hypocrite at times, specifically when he was dating two women at the sime time and he went to apologise to one of them only to realise that she was with someone else, it causes him to yell at the door in frustration as he believed that what the two had was special only for her to Taser him. He also blamed Judith for the end of their first marriage when actually when they tried again he was upset that she couldn't have changed her ways during their marriage. Alan is also an extremely effeminate man, he enjoys to watch Glee, favourite drink is an Appletini and enjoys to watch the theatre, such as the Lion King and Wicked. Although he constantly denied it Alan has come close to it such as when he kissed a man only for him to reply that he thought Charlie was the more attractive of the two and it was implied that he was willing to have sex with Walden when he failed to get an erection.

As mentioned by his son, Jake, Alan is extremely shameless cliaming that he doesn't need it as long as he has the Malibu beach house and saying that it was a rich man emotion and that he could barely afford humiliation. At the end of season 8, Alan asked for a donation from all, of his family however it quickly turned into a massive Ponzi Scheme that ended with him spending it all on himself and relied on Rose getting him out of debt. When Walden Schmidt had moved into the beach house he tried to convince him to not go to New York as Alan would need a new place to live. He also told Walden to stay with his new English girlfriend instead of going back to his ex-wife as if he did Walden would sell the house.

Despite his effeminate ways Alan can be aggressive and even violent at times. If he had utterly reached his limits, Alan would literally scream in aggravation or as Charlie liked to put it "have a hissy fit." The most common person he engages in physical force with is his brother, Charlie. Alan diplsyed a violent temper, as when he revealed that it was actually he who stole the silly putty at a young age and he incriminated him, Alan was completely enraged and tried to pound the door down in anger. The last time he has done this so far is when a guy was trying to hit on his date he met online.

He has a very inactive sex life and normally resorts to chronic masterbation. So far the two relationships that were based solely on sex was with Nancy, a women he met at the supermarket and he believed himself in love with her and was planning to marry her in Las Vegas only for her to cancel as her husband was coming into town a few days early. The second was with Kandi who actually began as one of Charlie's bimbos, who was portrayed as a beautiful and sexy 22-something dumb belle who actually ended up getting married in Vegas after winning a small fortune but end up getting divorced after a few months and her taking him for everything he's got.

Although in the past all of his relationships have brought him pain, both physical and emotional (namely with Judith) Alan still dearly loved people he held close to his heart. Despite their relationship being on again off again, he ended up marrying Lyndsey who was his sons best friends mother and in the end he married her. Back to his unlucky nature Alan is constantly seen getting into physical injury, such as having hot coffee poured and being kicked in the crotch, tasered, slapped and thrown off a beach. As pointed out by Charlie, Alan has a tendncy to pick up broken women as he believes that if he mends them they will wind up loving him however in a twist of irony all of his past relationships have ended up resenting him.

Throughout the entire series, Alan is seen having very powerful relationships, the one that gets the most screen-time is with his brother Charlie, the two constantly antagonise one another as brothers would do, the two would use humour to bite one another or even at times get physical however the two cannot deny that they love one another, Charlie allowed Alan and his son Jake to move into his Malibu beach-house completely rent free from 12-years. Alan was also leff utterly depressed when Charlie had died in Paris. Alan has said to have lived a terrible childhood with her mother, Evelyn being very cold and loveless but Alan still loved her until he began to feel the same contempt towards her Charlie did. Alan loved his son Jake and he did the same for the first few seasons however later on he preferred to hang with his friends than his father and saw him as a leech who was ripping off Walden however when he left for Japan, Jake even commented that he would have no-one else as his dad.

Although he is terrible at relationships Alan can be quite confident and charming at times when he had discovered that Charlie had stolen his girlfriend at prom he responded by stealing his attractive French girlfriend. He was also able to get a strange women to have sex with him while pretending to be his brother. Just after Charlie died in the 8th season Alan showed a mental health disorder, mixed with his grief he actually began to believe that he himself was Charlie and had to be sent to a psychiatric ward.
