Albert Einstein is the overarching protagonist of the Command & Conquer franchise. Like in real life, he is a renowned German physicist of high intelligence. In 1946, he created a time machine and traveled back in time to prevent Adolf Hitler's rise to power. This creates an alternate timeline, where the Nazis never came to power and the Second World War was instead fought between the Soviet Union and the western Allied Forces. Einstein was on the latter's side, providing them with top-notch technology.
He was portrayed by John Milford in Red Alert 1, Larry Gelman in Red Alert 2 and Smokey Miles in Red Alert 3.
Biography[]
Original timeline[]
In 1946, Albert Einstein created a time machine. He used it to travel to 1924 Germany and intercept Adolf Hitler just as he was released from prison. Einstein greeted the would-be dictator and shook hands with him, erasing Hilter from existence and going back to his own time. While Einstein erroneously believed he had averted World War II, he didn't alter his own timeline, but rather created a separate one.
Red Alert[]
In said new timeline, when Soviet Union invaded Europe, they also captured Einstein to utilize his scientific genius. The Allies rescued him, and he instead provided them access to his Chronosphere.
Red Alert 2[]
Twenty years after the end of World War II, the Soviet Union invaded the United States. Albert Einstein provided Allied Forces with new weapons he had developed in Germany, once again helping them win the war.
When Yuri attempted to brainwash the entire world, Einstein's Temporary Displacement Device was used by the Allies to send their forces back in time and stop Yuri when it was still possible. After the villain was defeated, the two timelines merged.
Red Alert 3[]
Soviet colonel Anatoly Cherdenko used Dr. Zelinsky's time machine to travel back in time to 1927 and meet Einstein, who he blamed for the Allied Forces' military success, at the Solvay Conference. He shook hands with the scientist, erasing him from existence. In the new timeline, his premature death deprived the Allies of many a valuable weapon, allowing the Soviets to control most of Europe. However, another threat emerged in the form of the Empire of the Rising Sun. Additionally, nuclear weapons were never developed.
Tiberium series[]
Einstein's fate in the Tiberium games timeline is unknown, although he had likely died of old age by the time of Tiberium Dawn.
Trivia[]
- Red Alert 2 takes place in 1972, yet Albert Einstein is still alive, when in real life he died in 1955, aged 76, which would make him 97 at the time of the game's events.
