Albert Trotter is the tritagonist of the long-running BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses.
He is portrayed by the late Buster Merryfield.
Biography[]
In his background he was in the Royal Navy and called to action during the Second World War. He had a reputation for causing the ships to sink, although in his elder years he would tell different stories about his war experiences. In his youth he had a fallen out with his brother Edward Trotter, and they wouldn't talk again for the remainder of Edward's life.
Following Edward's passing in 1984, Albert moved in with Edward's grandsons Derek "Del Boy" Trotter and Rodney Trotter. They were initially not going to let him stay long due to having bad luck in the past and feeling he was trying to fill their Grandad's shoes, but they eventually accepted him into the family.
He later began helping out Del out in his schemes and was far more active than his late brother.
In 1996 the Trotters became multimillionaires after auctioning off a watch found in their garage. Del and Rodney split a share with Albert, who got around £3 million. Albert bought himself a yacht but crashed it.
Albert passed away of old age in 2001. The rest of the Trotters faced bankruptcy due to the recent market crash and possible loss of their flat. But it is revealed Albert had carefully invested in his money, and he left his two nephews a large sum in his will to live comfortably.
