~ Aldo Trapani |
Aldo Trapani (1924 - 01/01/1959) was a loyal member of the Corleone crime family who later became the Don of the Trapani crime family. He is the protagonist of the 2006 game Godfather and the overarching protagonist of its sequel 2009 game Godfather II.
In the first game, he was voiced by Amanda Moody (child) and Andrew Pifko (adult). In the sequel, he was voiced by Rick Pasqualone, who also voiced Vito Scaletta in Mafia.
Briefing[]
Aldo became a part of the Corleone family business after Luca Brasi introduced him to fighting, extortion, and making money. Aldo remained in New York City, where he became a very powerful and respected member of the Corleone family. He eventually became the Don of New York.
Biography[]
Childhood[]
Aldo was born in Little Italy, Manhattan, in 1924, to Johnny and Serafina Trapani. A soldier (or soldato) for the Corleone crime family, Johnny was respected and feared among the other Five Families. In 1936, 12-year-old Aldo witnessed his father's brutal assassination by Barzini thugs under the command of Don Emilio Barzini. Don Vito Corleone comforted Aldo and promised him that he could one day get his revenge once he became older and stronger. Sometime after Johnny's death, Aldo moved with Serafina to Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan. There, Aldo befriended and grew up with future police chief Kenneth Jameson. Vito made sure that Serafina and Aldo were provided for, as Johnny had always been loyal to him. Aldo later served in the army during World War II.
New Family[]
By 1945, a 21-year-old Aldo had been discharged after the war and eventually fell in with the wrong crowd; he joined a small gang of thieves, for whom Aldo was the getaway driver, though they had no respect for him and treated him badly. During the wedding of Vito's daughter Connie, Serafina begged Vito to help Aldo. Several minutes later, Luca Brasi, Vito's enforcer, thanked Vito for inviting him, before Vito asked Luca to find Aldo.
Later that day, Luca found Aldo getting beaten up in an alley (or a rooftop on PS3) over money problems with his gang. Luca sneaked up on them with a tyre iron and whacked the gang's leader on the back and head, killing him (only knocking him out on PS3). As another member fled, Luca helped Aldo to his feet as he introduced himself. Aldo then beat up the two remaining thieves as Luca instructed him how to brawl properly.
The next day, Luca met up with Aldo and discussed a family racket problem with butcher Emilio Brunetti. Aldo went to the butcher's and beat him until he paid up, proving himself reliable to Luca, who then sent Aldo to meet two other up-and-comers in the family - Paulie Gatto and Martin 'Monk' Malone. After a rocky introduction, Aldo helped the two carry out the task of avenging the assault and rape of Amerigo Bonasera's daughter Maria, by brutally beating Kevin Moonan and Jerry Wagner in Bonasera's cemetery.
Shortly after, Vito set Luca the serious task of pretending that he wasn't so happy with the Corleone family and that he wanted to join the Tattaglia crime family; that way, he could find out what Virgil Sollozzo and Bruno Tattaglia were up to. Aldo went along with Luca and watched the meet from an alley window. Luca failed to realise that Tattaglia and Sollozzo were informed that Luca was lying and he was garroted to death, while smoking a cigarette, after the Turk jammed a knife through his hand. Aldo killed Luca's assassin, but Tattaglia and Sollozzo escaped.
When Aldo got back to his safehouse, he phoned Monk to tell him what had happened, but Monk preferred that they talked in person at the barber shop on Mott Street.
New Allies[]
The following day, Monk went to the barber's, but he ran into sister Francis 'Frankie' Malone long the way. When Monk reached the barber's, he found a panicked Aldo waiting. As Aldo told Monk about Luca, Vito went across the street to purchase some fruit while his middle son Fredo remained in a car parked outside the barber's. Vito did not notice that Tattaglia gunmen had cornered him and left him unguarded. Vito was shot several times in the back as he ran across the street to Fredo.
When Monk and the barber were shot in the crossfire, Monk begged Aldo to leave him and instead find his sister Frankie. Aldo shot several mobsters and found the final mobster using Frankie as a human shield. After shooting the mobster in the head and saving Frankie's life, Aldo made sure she was all right as he told her about Monk's injury. Leaving Frankie to tend to Monk, Aldo helped Fredo get Vito to the hospital while being chased through Little Italy by more Tattaglia gunmen.
Along the way, Aldo and the ambulance were forced to stop on the bridge by a Tattaglia roadblock. As he killed the mobsters, Aldo interrogated one of them and learned that the Tattaglias had kidnapped Corleone consigliere Tom Hagen. Aldo gets in the ambo and successfully escorts Vito and Fredo to the hospital, where he meets Vito's oldest son Sonny, as well as Corleone caporegime (or capo) Peter Clemenza, whom Aldo tells about Tom.
The following evening, Aldo, Clemenza, and Rocco Lampone helped rescue Tom from Sollozzo, who furiously plotted to finish off Vito. When Aldo was placed on guard duty soon after, he encountered Frankie Malone, who was there visiting her injured brother. After flirting and arranging a date, several Tattaglia assassins arrive and attempt to kill Vito. Aldo saved his life; with the arrival of Vito's youngest son Michael Corleone, as well as Enzo Aguello, Aldo managed to secure the area, but not before Michael's jaw was broken by Captain Mark McCluskey.
Ascending Rep[]
On New Year's Eve, several Corleone men - including Monk, Sonny, Paulie, and Aldo - went to a party at Rosa Morelli's brothel. However, after a while, the party was raided by Police Sergeant Joe Galtosino and his police crew and he took Rosa with him for "interrogation". Aldo secretly passed a few police officers and followed Joe to a balcony. During their fight, Aldo threw Joe off the balcony, before throwing down a whiskey bottle to stage it as an accident. Aldo was now taken very seriously by members of the Corleone family and no longer treated as an outsider.
As Vito was recovering in hospital, Sonny took over as Acting Boss for the family. He noticed that Paulie had been working with the Tattaglia family and sold out Vito. Sonny appointed Clemenza to get the job done, and Clemenza also got Aldo involved. Clemenza, Paulie, and Aldo go for a drive to buy some cannoli for Clemenza's wife. Clemenza later stopped to take a "leak", prompting Aldo to load his gun, but Gatto heard it and ran out of the car, but Aldo managed to gun down Paulie. Rocco arrives in a getaway car and escapes with Clemenza and Aldo.
Meanwhile, Johnny Fontane wanted a role in an upcoming film of big-time film producer Jack Woltz, but Jack declined because Johnny had slept with one of his starlets. Tom Hagen assigned Aldo and Rocco to go with Tom to meet Jack at his mansion in Los Angeles. Jack angrily refused the deal, so Aldo and Rocco intruded into his home later that night. Aldo and Rocco beheaded Khartoum, Jack's prize racehorse, and managed to put the horses' head in his bed as he slept. When Jack awoke the next morning, he understood the situation after screaming at the top of his lungs. Johnny Fontane was agreed a part in his film.
Around this time, Aldo and Frankie began dating, which Monk approved. Aldo and Monk then assisted Clemenza in destroying Sollozzo's Warehouse, cutting off his main drugs supply.
Becoming Made[]
Sollozzo wanted to meet with Michael Corleone for a peace meeting, where he would be guarded by Captain McCluskey. The junior Corleone suggested this would be the perfect time to eliminate the two family enemies. Clemenza had Aldo put a revolver in the bathroom at Louis Restaurant in Midtown. As Aldo watched over the meet while inside the restaurant having some soup, Michael eventually shot and killed the two. Aldo then drove Michael at the docks where he would be in safety in Sicily. For this act, Aldo was made into the family at The Falconite.
However, soon after, Tattaglia hitmen kidnapped Frankie. Aldo and Monk went after her, but despite their efforts to save her, she was killed by Bruno Tattaglia at St. Michael the Archangel's Church in Brooklyn. Furious, Aldo went on a rampage, assisted by Sonny, and threw Tattaglia into the cremation oven at Tito Morelli's, after first luring him their by killing a Tattaglia capo.
Aldo began to accept contract hits at this time from both Rocco and Sergeant Chris Ferriera, a crooked cop who wanted to keep the Irish gang out of New York as well as settle some personal scores. This caused him to be mistrusted by the Family, until Ferriera betrayed him, causing Aldo to beat the police officer to death in the street. He gained further prestige by helping Sonny to eliminate a smuggling ring ran by Artie Manzanero.
Once again, Aldo's actions cost him dearly; as Sonny attempted to drive through Jones Beach Causeway, he was gunned down by hitmen working for the Five Families. Through the Tattaglia Underboss at The Tunnel Club, Aldo learned that Don Barzini had been the mastermind, but Vito, devastated by Sonny's death and sickened by the bloodshed, called for a truce, one that also allowed Michael to return safely from Sicily.
Caporegime[]
When Michael returned, he had a special gift for the man who helped him escape, the position of capo. He then dispatched Aldo on a mission to find a rat in the Bowery Hotel, alongside Monk, who had lately grown depressed and distant. But when Monk shot a man in the hotel, Jimmy DeNunzio arrived, ostensibly to help, but really to reveal that the operation had been a scheme to winkle out a traitor in the family, the dead man was in fact D. Cooper, an FBI agent who Monk had been reporting back to. Monk fled, with Aldo in hot pursuit. The two men fought in the Va Va Voom Room, and Aldo was eventually forced to execute his old friend on the dance floor.
In order to facilitate Michael's move to Nevada, Aldo was sent to clear out Moe Greene's secret casino underneath The Peak, sometime after the death of his old mentor Salvatore Tessio, who had been revealed to be a traitor. With the money from Greene's casino, the only thing that remained was for the Corleones to gain revenge on the Five Families. Whilst Connie's son, Michael Rizzi, was baptised at St. Patrick's Old Cathedral, Aldo later killed the remaining rival dons; Victor Stracci, Willie Cicci, Carmine Cuneo, Philip Tattaglia, and finally Emilio Barzini, avenging his father.
With the dons executed, Aldo then set about conquering the rest of New York City. Upon the completion of this task, he became Don of New York.
Death[]
Three years later, 34-year-old Aldo accompanied Michael Corleone to Havana, Cuba for the business deals with Hyman Roth, where he received a special percentage of the business to himself. He was highly respected amongst mob circles at this point, particularly with Rico Granados, despite turning down involvement in a property deal of Rico's.
Whilst trying to escape the chaos following Fidel Castro's Cuban Revolution, he was shot in the neck by a sniper while escorting Fredo and Michael to the José Martí International Airport with the help of his underboss Dominic Trapani, who replaced Aldo as Corleone Don of New York. Michael ordered Fredo that Serafina Trapani was to be provided for. His businesses in New York were taken over by two rogue Clemenza crime family capos - brothers Tony and Carmine Rosato. it was later reaveld the the one who killed him was a cuban crime lord Esteban Almedia, when the almedia mansion was raided dominic killed esteban avenging aldo.
Personality[]
Cunning and resourceful, Aldo gained the respect of his superiors because of his willingness to perform favors and assist wherever he could. Despite this, Aldo had a compassionate streak, a dry, warm sense of humor, and was deeply loyal to his friends, such as Monk and Sonny, and quickly endeared himself to superiors like Clemenza, Tessio, Santino Corleone, and Michael Corleone.
This compassion occasionally caused him to falter on particularly ruthless missions, such as the execution of Tessio, later on in his career. He was also a charmer, and women like Rosa Morelli and Carmella Rotunda flirted openly with him.
Following the death of Frankie Malone, he grew more distant, and never truly recovered from the incident. After he joined the family as a made man, his power and loyalty increased, but in the meantime, his feelings failed, as he felt no misery when he killed his closest friend Monk. He was an expert marksman and hand to hand combatant.
He also knew golden ways of extorting shops which enabled him to earn more money, skills which earned him the nickname "the Player". All of his traits and skills allowed him to take over whole warehouses - and even family compounds - single-handedly, and it was only down to the element of surprise that he was finally eliminated.
