Alena is a character from Dragon Quest IV.
Appearance[]
Alena has orange hair that is long and wavy. She wears a yellow dress, blue cape, blue pointed hat, orange gloves, and orange boots.
Personality[]
Alena has a fierce temper, having no fear to speak her mind and determined to reach her goals. Even though Alena has great aspirations, she is not a stereotypically serious martial artist, and sees the world if it suits her age. She is tired of being overly protected by her father and everyone around Castle Zamoksva, and wants to see the world beyond her bedroom window.
Story[]
Alena begs her father, the Tsar of Zamoksva, to let her explore the world, since the world needs strong fighters with the Underworld becoming active. Her father refuses, believing that because of the monsters becoming more aggressive, it is too dangerous for Alena to leave the castle. Alena returns to her room but, after a while, ultimately sneaks out of the castle.
Her retainers, Kiryl and Borya give chase; they accepted that she is unable to stay put so they follow her, not wanting her to travel alone. They come to a small village where it is being terrorized by a monster who constantly demands young girls as a sacrifice. Alena seemingly offers herself as the next sacrifice, but she only does this to let the demon show its true self. They slay the demon, saving the village.
After they journey to the nomadic Desert Bazaar, she discovers that her father became mute. Alena retrieves some birdsong nectar to treat him and, afterward, he realizes that he was wrong for his overprotectiveness, and so he opens the Travel Gate to Endor. On arrival, Alena finds the local princess lamenting her fate, because her father has promised her hand to the winner of the Endor Tournament, an annual fighting competition, and her father is seriously regretting this promise. She hears rumors of a highly dangerous entrant named Psaro the Manslayer. Alena enters and is able to get to the finals, only to find that her opponent, who would have been Psaro, is a no show. By winning the tournament, Alena absolve the Princess of her duty.
However, as she celebrates her victory, a Zamoksva soldier rushes in and cries that she must return to the castle at once, then dies. They return to the castle to find it completely devoid of life. They set out to investigate further and the chapter ends abruptly.
Alena and her companions reappear in Chapter 5, when Kiryl has fallen under a dangerous fever and is bedridden at Mintos. Alena and a band of three mercenaries set out to the weed's reported location to try and recover some to cure Kiryl, but are unsuccessful. But, the Hero succeeds, and upon learning of their destiny, the three immediately join the party for the remainder of the game. Sometime later, they return to Zamoksva, finding the cause of its troubles to be the demon Baalzack, whom they kill in retribution.
