Alejandro “Alex” is the main protagonist of the 2023 Netflix film Chupa. He is a Mexican-American boy living in Kansas, who meets a chupacabra cub named Chupa while visiting his grandfather in Mexico.
He is portrayed by Evan Whitten, who also portrayed Ethan Salazar in the series Next, Jacen Syndulla in Ahsoka, a young Elliot Alderson in Mr. Robot, and Charlie in Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon.
Biography:[]
Alex is introduced at school eating lunch in the cafeteria. While there, he speaks to one of his friends who tells him he doesn’t need his games console. After he gets home, his mother tells him he’s going to Mexico, which he claims is something he doesn’t want to do before some convincing by his mother
After arriving in Mexico, he meets his grandfather, Chava, who asks him if he knows anything about his heritage (which he denies), and takes him to his house. When he gets home, he meets his two cousins, Memo and Luna. While he's there, he watched a lucha libre video, and learns that his grandfather was a professional luchador who retired due to an industry he sustained during a match.
After learning this, he goes outside where Chava's goats are kept, and notices one of them is dead. Memo presumes it was killed by El Chupacabras, although Chava and Luna both disagree, claiming the creature is a myth. Alex then goes back to bed, but stays awake as he sees Chava sneak off into the barn with a music box. When he reaches the barn, he spots a creature lurking in the bushes and freaks out, assuming it to be the chupacabra, only to find a rabbit hiding there (which Luna and Memo mock him over).
