Alex Fierro is the genderfluid/transgender child of Loki (in his female form) and Mr. Fierro, the love interest and later significant other of Magnus Chase and is one of the main characters in the Magnus Chase and The Gods of Asgard book series.
Being genderfluid, Alex does not stay the same gender permanently. Most of the time, Alex is female, but on some days is male.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Alex was born as the result of an affair between the Norse God of Mischief Loki (in the form of a woman) and Mr. Fierro, a married businessman who owned a company called Fierro Ceramics.
Nine months later, Loki arrived at Mr. Fierro's home with an infant Alex and "opened the eyes" of Mr. Fierro and his wife to The Nine Worlds and Norse Gods. Loki left Alex in the Fierro's care.
However due to what Loki had revealed to them, Mr. Fierro and his wife looked down on Alex for her/his Norse heritage and gender fluidity. She/He was also bullied badly at school. Alex did have at least two half-siblings from her/his father's side, but it is unknown what their relationship was like.
Alex was however close to her/his grandfather Abuelo, who accepted Alex's gender fluidity and taught her/him to make pottery and spoke of Mexican myths and legends. Mr. Fierro however did not like this bonding as he believed that his father was putting ideas into Alex's head and that Alex was finding validation from the family.
At one point in her/his life, Alex became involved with a pottery studio and would be allowed by the owners to stay there if things got bad at home.
By the time Alex was fourteen, Abuelo had passed away.
At some point after this, Alex was disowned by her/his father and was kicked out of the family home (for "not being normal" and for refusing to take over the family business, since she/he believed her/his father had exploited Abuelo's artwork) and forced to live on the streets. Alex would also stay in a youth shelter in Winter Street in Boston, but hated the place. Whilst there, Alex befriended a boy named Adrian, who later killed himself. It is possible that Adrian and Alex were in a romantic relationship.

The Hammer of Thor[]
Two years later, Alex (as a male) died protecting a demigod in denial from wolves. Due to fighting bravely, Alex was chosen by his half-sister a Valkyrie named Samirah "Sam" al-Abbas, a Valkyrie to go to Hotel Valhalla and become an einherji. At first, Alex was hostile due to believing that becoming an einherji would mean being restricted to a single gender for eternity.
After arriving at Hotel Valhalla, Alex uses her/his shapeshifting to turn into a cheetah and is pursed by the other residents. She/He ends up knocking down fellow demigod and einherji Magnus Chase and puncturing several holes in his shoes. Alex is given a room previously occupied by a half-troll named X (who was later discovered to be Odin in disguise).
Alex participants in Hotel Valhalla's combat exercise and kills a dragon with her garrote wire. During the exercise, Loki channels his powers into Magnus which would destroy a quarter of the training ground. To prevent this, Alex decapitates Magnus. Due to being an einherji, Magnus comes back to life later in the day.
Alex later sits with Sam at the Thane's table to watch her/his final moments, which were recorded by Sam. After watching the footage, the Thanes and einherjar applaud Alex's bravery.
Alex (as a male) serves as a chaperone to Sam and her fiance Amir Fadlan as they and Magnus cross the Bifrost Bridge and meet Heimdall. After learning the location of Thor's missing hammer, Alex and the others are dropped off at Amir's family's restaurant by Heimdall. Afterwards, the group eat before Alex and Magnus return to Hotel Valhalla.
