Brother, I tire of the conflicts and the deceptions that plague our family and theirs. So I entrust you with this letter. Whether you give it to her is up to you. I'm at peace with what's to come. When the time comes, I hope you will be too.
~ Alicia's message to Verso.
Send me to my family.
~ Alicia to Maelle, asking her to fulfill her final request.

Alicia, also known as the Masked Woman, is a major character in the 2025 French RPG, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. She is a mysterious masked individual that accompanies Renoir and encounters Maelle in her dreams, seemingly having a close connection to her.

She is then revealed to be a painted replica created by the Paintress, in the image of her youngest daughter, Alicia Dessendre. She carries the scars and wounds that the original Alicia received from the fire, in response to her mother's grief over Verso's death.

She is voiced by Adeline Chetail in French and by Jennifer English in English.

Personality[]

Alicia is a deeply complex and tragic individual who, much like her brother, is affected greatly by the conflict between Curator and the Paintress. Being created from the resentment the Paintress has for her daughter, she carries all of the negative aspects of her, including the scars and burns that she suffered from the fire, making her unable to speak most of the time. When she does speak, she does with a very hoarse tone.

As she carries the memories of Alicia from the real world, she is fully aware of her existence as a painted copy of real self and feels the same sense of grief and misery that her brother carries. Despite this, she loves her family all the same and wishes for them to thrive in the Canvas.

While she does not resent her real counterpart, a part of her feels envious watching her bond with her brother and not be afflicted by the mental scars and trauma that she carries. It's for this reason, however, that leads to her bonding with her real self, as the two find a mutual understanding with each other.

In the end, she ultimately comes to terms with her existence and seeks to reunite with her family by being erased from the Canvas, a request that her real life counterpart fulfills.

Quotes[]

Maelle. It's a strange feeling, watching you with my brother. Laughing and smiling. Without the scars or the memories that afflict me. Alicia - as she was meant to be. Not this painted version that I am. My family, a facsimile of yours. And this world, a mirror. Painted by your mother, the Paintress, to stave off her grief. Seeing your expedition through would plunge us all into the abyss. For in ridding the world of the Paintress... You'd lose the sole force standing against the one who would erase us. The one who invokes the flowers of the Gommage. An act of love. For he does love her. Your Father. On her Monolith, she paints a warning for us all. Of the few she can save as her power wanes.
~ Alicia's message to Maelle, revealing the truth.
We all wish for our families to thrive. Your family, however, believes only one can survive. But perhaps you'll find another way. You who have lived amongst us. Perhaps you differ from your father and your sister as I differ from mine. Your mother paints life. Whilst your father, death. What will you paint?
~ Alica asking Maelle the choice she will paint.
