Alto Goldfield is the main protagonist of the light novel franchise Vermeil in Gold. He is the co-protagonist of the series along with his familiar, Vermeil.
He was voiced by Yūya Hirose in Japanese and Mike Haimoto in English.
Overview[]
He is second year student of the Royal Ortigia Magic Academy who is a excellent prodigy. He was born with an incredibly powerful mana which is a poison for summoning any familiars which is the reason he failed to summon them. He discovered a really old summoning book when he successfully summoned a devil who is the most powerful of all devils, her name is Vermeil (who was imprisoned inside of the book for over 550 years by her closest friend, Fatema) but unintentionally turned her into a lustful and optimistically pervert when she is obsessed of his mana. He made a pact with Vermeil as familiar known as the Demon's Heart. His dream is to become the greatest mage in the world.
After his instructor, Obsidian's betrayal and defeat (until he escaped from jail), Alto eventually became a member of the student council by the invitation of the council's president, Elena Kimberlight without a choice after she and the other members (except for Chris Westland who is already aware of Vermeil's identity) learned of his secret that Vermeil is a devil.
During the Bronze Exams, Alto and Vermeil were ambushed by the Platinum Mage, his name is Iolite (who eventually became his archnemesis). He witnessed Vermeil's past after she wiped out her home nations and its rotten inhabitants when they've persecute her as the devil as well murdered her foster family. After Iolite retreated with Heilodol (another Platinum Mage), he was trained with the Student Council to prepare for their destiny to fight against either the military or the Platinum Mages.
Appearance[]
Alto is a young boy with a silver-white hair and golden yellow eyes. He worn a blue school uniform, a blue button-up top with gold trim over a white dress shirt and green tie, navy pants, and black dress shoes. He's more fit and "built" than he appears.
Personality[]
Alto is a quite responsible and mature boy for his age who tends to hide his true feelings. He is easily flustered by the girls behavior and raw sex appeal, especially from Vermeil, but has great willpower to resist seduction. He is a hardworking boy with aspiring dreams of becoming a high staked magician. He has a bit of a complex over his short height. While he does have great willpower, he tends to give into Vermeil's seductions when they are alone together, especially as he develops feelings for her and begins even initiating intimacy with her (though its unclear just how far beyond kissing and petting they have gone).
After his mentor Obsidian's betrayal, he is willing to take any punishments for Vermeil's sake even if he gotten kick out of the academy by the student council, only for him to join the student council as a member, when he realize they have no intentions to get him expelled and wants him to join them as their new member of the council due to the student council's distrust for the staff members because of Obsidian's betrayal.
Abilities and Powers[]
- Immense Mana Power: Alto has displayed a very high magic power capacity. According to Vermeil, his magic power is so strong and dense that other familiars would be poisoned by it and so whenever Alto tries to summon something, it ends up in a failure until he summons Vermeil who can handle his mana just fine and in fact loves it.
- Prodigious Talents: While he certainly working hard, Alto is no doubt the much more skilled than most mages at his age.
- Golden Mana: Alto's mana is gold when shown after Vermeil kissed him to drain his mana.
- Devil's Heart: Vermeil used her own magic to save Alto, causing Alto to gain a Demon Heart. If either Alto or Vermeil dies, the other will also die.
