Alydon is the leader of the Thals who befriended Dr. Who and his companions in the 1965 film Dr Who and the Daleks. He is played by late actor Barrie Ingham, who is best known for playing Basil of Baker Street in the Disney animated film The Great Mouse Detective.
Personality[]
Alydon is a friendly, kind, gentle, and a true pacifist at heart. As a pacifist he hates killing, but when it comes to the Daleks threatening his people's peaceful way of life he does eventually agree with Dr. Who and his companions that the Daleks are beyond reason and that there is no other way but to fight for their very survival against their Dalek oppressors. When Dr. Who and Susan are captured by the Daleks, Alydon quickly rallied the other Thals to help them rescue them and stop the Daleks from detonating a deadly neutronic bomb. Even after the Daleks are destroyed, Alydon and his people show sincere gratitude in helping them defeating their Daleks enemies.
Biography[]
Alydon was a member of and scout for the party of Thals which journeyed to the Dalek City in search of food.

Alydon, with Temmosus and Dyoni.
Alydon discovered the ship Tardis in the petrified jungle. He left a case of the Thal's anti-radiation drug for the Tardis crew and he later made contact with Susan after accidentally frightening her in the jungle, giving her an extra case of the drug and also his cloak. Alydon did not entirely trust the Daleks and gave Susan more drugs in case his people's ancient enemies did not share them with the time travellers as they had promised. His cloak, being made of non-conductive plastic, proved instrumental in the Tardis crew members' escape from the Daleks, letting them warn the Thals that they were walking into a trap, albeit not before the Thal leader Temmosus was killed in the ensuing ambush.
Alydon succeeded Temmosus as leader of the Thals, but even after this act of vicious treachery by the Daleks, he refused to lead his peaceful people into war against their ancient enemies. He argued it was war that had turned their world of Skaro from a beautiful paradise and into a wasteland.
Alydon was in love with the Thal woman Dyoni. Dr. Who and Ian Chesterton orchestrated a ruse in which they threatened to hand Dyoni over to the Daleks for experimentation. This provoked Alydon to fight to protect her. He was convinced that he would be willing to fight for something and must if the Thals were to escape extermination. He realized that Dr. Who was correct in his arguement and agreed to help them infiltrated the Dalek city. While Ian and Barbara led a small party of Thals to find a way into the Dalek city via the water supply that is within a deadly swamp, and a large mountain, Alydon worked with the Doctor to disable the Daleks' surveillance equipment. Although the Doctor and Susan were captured, their plan ultimately worked. The Thals gained easy entry to the city upon realizing there were no Daleks guarding the walls. They fought the Daleks in a pitched and epic final battle that ultimately ended in victory for the Thals, and defeat for the Daleks who perished. Afterwards, Alydon and his people bid farewell to the time travelers after giving them Thal capes as thank you gifts as a sign of their gratitude.
