Amalgamous Prime was known as the "joker" or "trickster" among the Thirteen Primes, who was the first Cybertronian to possess the ability to transform into alt modes, a skill which he mastered through his unique T-Cog.

As the first Shifter, he founded a subclass of Cybertronians, the Shifters, who share his fluid and malleable nature.
