Ami Kawashima is one of the main characters in the anime/manga series Toradora!. She first appears in the 5th episode in the series. She is the childhood friend of Yusaku Kitamura, and is a model who transferred in Ohashi High School only a month into the school year.
She is voiced by Eri Kitamura in the Japanese version, and Erica Harlacher in the English version.
Appearance[]
Ami is a tall teenage girl with long blue hair that goes down to her waist, with two bangs spilt apart. Her eyes are violet, originally described to be hazel brown in the original novel. Unlike most of the characters in the series, her bust is more developed. It is very noted that she possesses a great amount of stomach fat.
She is often seen wearing her school uniform throughout the series. If she's not in school, she's wearing costumes, to show her model image. In some cases, she wears sunglasses and less revealing clothing so she can avoid strangers since she is a model.
Personality[]
First glance, Ami is shown to be very kind person who is polite to anyone she meets, making her appear as clumsy and a bit of an airhead. But in reality, she is very self-centered who is rude and manipulative, she would always antagonize Taiga for no apparent reason, especially her height.
Her reasonings of transferring to Ohashi High School is to get away from her creepy stalker who ruined her life, and didn't have the confidence to scare him away. After seeing Taiga stand up for herself and not being afraid, she was able to stand up for herself against her stalker.
As the series processed, she became more caring towards her friends, and is willing to help them no matter the cost. She is very wise since she saw the relation bewteen Taiga, Ryuuji, and Minori, trying to give tips to her friends without actually hurting their feelings. She is also shown to be very honest in situations like with Ryuuji not paying attention to either Taiga or Minori about the romantic attraction between the three of them.
When she's around people, she is rather mature for her age. She believes that she isn't sure that her 'true self' is actually the real her. She is shown to be her 'true self' around her friends, but tries to make amends with people by acting mature adult, even though that's not what she truly is. She was jealous that Taiga showed her true self and was still loved by others. She disliked acting like a mature adult, but because of Taiga, she realizes that even if one person understands you, things will be okay, even if it's not love.
