Amon Tomaz is the tritagonist of the 2022 DC Extended Universe film Black Adam.

Growing up under Intergang's oppressive rule in Kahndaq, Amon longed for a superhero to save them. When Adrianna tasked Tomaz and his uncle Karim with recovering and hiding a powerful totem from Intergang, their quest led them to search for the Crown of Sabbac.

After Teth-Adam was freed by his mother, Amon inspired him to embrace the role of a superhero, forming a bond with him. However, Amon was later kidnapped by Ishmael Gregor, who sought the Crown of Sabbac, prompting his mother, Adam, and the Justice Society to stage a rescue mission and successfully save him.

When Gregor returned, empowered by the Legions of Hell, Amon rallied alongside his people to fight the invading demons. With the threat vanquished and Intergang defeated, the people of Kahndaq embraced Black Adam as their protector, finding hope and strength in his presence.

Biography[]

Amon Tomaz was born in Kahndaq to Adrianna Tomaz and an unnamed father. From a young age, Amon witnessed his nation's long history of oppression and invasion, including the arrival of the criminal organization Intergang in 2021, who ultimately murdered his father. Despite the hardships, Amon grew up idolizing superheroes, collecting their memorabilia, and dreaming of a hero who would one day free Kahndaq.

One day, while waiting in line with his mother for an event, Amon grew frustrated with the delay, especially when Intergang soldiers cut the line. His uncle Karim arrived with food to lighten the mood, but Amon noticed his mother’s phone vibrating and asked if it was urgent. Adrianna assured him she had to leave for a task but promised to return soon.

Adrianna, Karim, and their team planned to retrieve the Crown of Sabbac, using Karim’s van for transport. To help them pass through an Intergang checkpoint in northern Shiruta, Amon devised a distraction. He skated to the checkpoint and confronted a soldier, voicing his frustration over Intergang’s occupation of Kahndaq. When the soldier reacted angrily, Karim intervened, allowing the team to proceed. Adrianna warned Amon to stay behind, deeming the mission too dangerous, and he reluctantly returned home.

During the mission, Adrianna and Karim inadvertently freed the ancient champion Teth-Adam, who was weakened by an eternium attack. They brought Adam to Amon’s room, where Amon eagerly observed the legendary figure. Startled when Adam suddenly awakened and accidentally electrocuted a poster, Amon introduced himself, bombarding Adam with questions about his powers. Adam, initially uninterested, brushed past Amon, healing his own wound with electricity.

Amon explained Kahndaq's plight and its continued lack of freedom, showing Adam a book about the nation’s history and urging him to become its hero. However, Adam rejected the idea, insisting he was no hero. Ignoring Amon’s pleas, Adam dismissed him and caused further damage to the house while leaving.

Despite Adam's reluctance, Amon continued trying to inspire him. He suggested modernizing his image with a cape, a catchphrase, and even a new name, such as "The Man in Black." When Adam escaped to the city, Amon followed, devising a bold plan to announce Kahndaq’s new protector. He stole a soldier’s communicator, used it to inform Intergang troops that Kahndaq now had a hero, and then discarded it into boiling water.

Amon skated to a public square and stood on a bench, raising his arms in the symbol of Kahndaq to draw Adam’s attention. His act was noticed by an Intergang soldier who mocked him, but Amon pointed to the sky as Teth-Adam arrived to confront them. Adrianna intervened to help Amon escape, knocking the soldier out with his skateboard.

Adam, now fully engaged, destroyed the soldiers, thrilling Amon. Afterward, Amon offered feedback on Adam’s catchphrase, suggesting he use it before defeating his enemies. Their conversation was cut short when more soldiers attacked, prompting Adam to continue his fight, as Amon watched with awe and hope for Kahndaq’s future.

Teth-Adam was ambushed by the Justice Society, who aimed to stop him, leading to a fierce battle. Amid the chaos, Amon and his mother fled, but when Adrianna saw Adam lying on the ground, Amon tried to help him—only for Adam to rise on his own. Cyclone trapped Adam in energy tubes, and as Amon attempted to assist, Adrianna stopped him, warning of the danger. Adam freed himself with a burst of energy, scattering the tubes, but Kent Nelson teleported Amon and Adrianna to safety.

From their hiding spot, Amon and Adrianna watched as Hawkman attacked Adam by throwing a car at him. They escaped while Adam battled the Justice Society, eventually celebrating when Adam broke free from Atom Smasher’s grasp. Adam, however, fled the scene.

Anticipating the Justice Society’s interest in the Crown of Sabbac, Adrianna entrusted Amon with her bag containing the crown and instructed him to escape. Returning home to share his adventure with Karim, Amon discovered Ishmael Gregor alive and armed, demanding the crown. As Gregor monologued about the crown’s power, Karim created a distraction, allowing Amon to hide the crown in his room and escape.

Amon called Adrianna to report Gregor’s betrayal and Karim’s injury. While attempting to flee, he was captured by an Intergang soldier on a flybike. The soldier threw Amon from the bike, but Teth-Adam arrived in time to save him. Relieved, Amon witnessed Adam’s battle with Intergang before Gregor captured him again, demanding the crown. Amon taunted Gregor, revealing the crown wasn’t in the bag, but Gregor still took him hostage.

Transported to the Al Hadidiyah Mine, Amon was held captive behind an eternium shield. When Adam and the Justice Society launched a rescue mission, Adam threatened to kill Intergang if Amon was harmed. Gregor demanded the crown, and Adrianna surrendered it to save her son. Amon apologized to his mother for the danger he’d caused.

Gregor revealed himself as a descendant of King Ahk-Ton, mocked Hurut’s death, and betrayed them by shooting at Amon. Enraged, Adam intercepted the bullet, saving Amon, and unleashed an energy discharge that destroyed the mine. Kent Nelson teleported Amon and Adrianna to safety, but Amon was injured and unconscious.

Amon was treated aboard the Hawk Cruiser and later woke up to his relieved mother. As Adam voluntarily entered confinement, Amon watched Antarctica from the cruiser’s window. Cyclone and Atom Smasher gifted him a Justice Society cape, inspiring him to strike heroic poses.

Upon returning to Kahndaq, they discovered Gregor had transformed into Sabbac and summoned the Legions of Hell. After surviving the Hawk Cruiser’s destruction, Amon and Adrianna fled the chaos, losing sight of Karim. Witnessing demons overrun the streets, Adrianna tried to shield Amon, but Karim arrived to fight back.

Inspired by his uncle’s bravery, Amon convinced Adrianna to let him rally the people. Skating to the champion’s statue in Shiruta, he raised his arms to form Kahndaq’s symbol, inspiring the civilians to join the fight. The people, led by Amon, fought valiantly against the Legions of Hell, with Amon’s efforts making his mother proud.

As Teth-Adam and Hawkman defeated Sabbac, the Legions of Hell vanished, and Kahndaq celebrated its liberation. At the palace, Amon and his family promised the Justice Society to help keep Adam in line. Watching Adam sit on the throne, Amon asked how it felt. Adam replied it wasn’t right and destroyed the throne. When Amon asked if Kahndaq finally had a hero, Adam declared the people had always been their own heroes, choosing instead to be their protector. Amon and his family admired his decision, as Adam declared himself "Black Adam."
