Amy Rose is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Miles "Tails" Prower) of the Sonic the Comic comic book series. She is a pink hedgehog who originally posed as Sonic's admirer, but their relationship had since gone in a different direction. She joined the Freedom Fighters and fought back against the tyranny of Dr. Robotnik and a multitude of other evil-doers.

Biography[]

Past[]

Amy Rose used to leave close to the Chemical Plant Zone and conduct lone wolf raids against Robotnik's facilities for some time, as well as try and inspire other citizens to rebel. During one such attack, she got into an accident which turned her quills pink, similar to how Sonic's turned blue during an experiment.

Sonic the Comic[]

Amy was arrested by Robotnik's forces for claiming to be Sonic's girlfriend. Sonic rescued her, and she had stayed with the Freedom Fighters ever since, eventually becoming an active member of the group. She continued to protect Mobius even after Sonic was stuck in the Special Zone, and witnessed Dr. Robotnik's empire crumbling upon his return.

Some time after Robotnik's reign was over, Amy and Tekno found themselves working for Ring of Eternity, a cosmic entity which took them on a quest to protect time and space, sending them to various dimensions, planets and time periods, which the duo then had to save, until they finally returned to Mobius, where they had to restore the Ring after it broke to pieces due to Fabian Vane's fans' meddling.

Amy witnessed Chaos' rampage and Johnny Lightfoot's death at his hands. Though she grieved over her comrade no less than Sonic did, she was the one to try and convince the hedgehog not to blame himself for it.

Act 1[]

After Grimer managed to convince the public that Sonic was a villain, most of Sonic's friends, Amy included, turned against him. With Sonic on the run, Amy became, alongside Tails, one of the leading figures in the war against the New Robotnik Empire, often working with G.U.N. to fight Badnik and protect civilians. One mission, however, ended with Amy stranded on Little Planet as it teleported to Planet Drak, though she returned to Mobius eventually. In the final days of the war, she reconciled with Sonic, and witnessed him bring upon the defeat of Drakon Empire and have his name cleared.

Exit: Sonic[]

Many years into the future, Amy and Tekno settled together and had a son named Johnny. Amy was present on the Floating Island when Porker attempted to finish the procedure of extracting Chaos Energy from Sonic's body, though they were interrupted by Robotnik, Grimer and Super Sonic. A fight ensued, which ended with Grimer dead and Robotnik and Super Sonic wiped away for good, allowing Freedom Fighters and Dr. Kintobor to reunite.

Personality[]

Amy started-off as a damsel in distress, though she was never a coward. She eventually learned to fight on her own and stand up for herself. Many times during her adventures, it was her quick thinking that helped save the day. Though she takes her job as a Freedom Fighter seriously, Amy has a mischievous side to her, as it was revealed that her admiration for Sonic was really just her way of teasing the hero.

Trivia[]

  • In contrast to the main series Amy Rose, who only has two primary outfits, Sonic the Comic Amy tends to wear a new outfit in almost every issue.
  • Nigel Kitching planned to write Amy as a more comedic character, influenced by various "screwball comedies", as well as include a love triangle between her, Sonic and Johnny. The former plans were turned down due to the editor's insistence that Amy is written more like a role-model, causing Kitching to feel like she's become one-dimensional and quit writing for her, letting Lew Stringer use her and Tekno for side stories. During the last issues of the comic's run, Kitching finally got the opportunity to portray Amy's character the way he wanted.
  • Amy is heavily implied to be Christian, as she wore a t-shirt with a cross in one issue, and expressed her belief in a supreme being responsible for creation of life in another.
