Amy the Talking Gorilla is the main protagonist from the movie, Congo who speaks with an sign language device that allows her to speak. She is a gorilla who was born in the Congo region of Africa. She was trained and taught by Dr. Peter Elliot to talk. She and the entire expedition led by Munroe, Dr. Karen Ross and Dr. Peter Elliot who stumble upon an ancient city called "Zinj" which is protected by a race of killer grey gorillas who kills humans and normal gorillas who step in their property from stealing their diamonds in the mines near a fictional volcano called, Mt. Mekenko.

Amy is the gorilla who is trying to learn human communication via sign language. Despite this, Peter is concerned by Amy’s drawings of jungles and the Eye of Providence, and seeks funding to return Amy to Africa, but the university is reluctant.
