Lt. Commander Andrei Sergeivich Kalinin is a supporting protagonist in the light novel and anime series Full Metal Panic!. He is a middle-aged Russian soldier and a high-ranking member of Mithril, as well as Sousuke Sagara's father figure and commanding officer. He is also one of Teletha Testarossa's military strategists with the rank of Lieutenant Commander, fulfilling the role of Operations Director.

He is voiced by Akio Otsuka in the Japanese version of the anime and the late Mike Kleinheinz in the English version, the former of whom also voices Iskandar and Shunsui Kyoraku. In the English version of Invisible Victory, he is voiced by Kent Williams.

Appearance

Kalinin is a tall, middle-aged man with grey hair, a moustache and a small beard that covers his chin. He is usually seen wearing his Mithril uniform.

Personality

Kalinin is a very polite man who cares a great deal for the soldiers under his command. Since Sousuke was orphaned at a young age, Kalinin is the closest thing to a father figure he has ever known, and the two share a very close relationship. What makes this ironic is that the two started off as enemies, back when Sousuke was the nihilistic "Assassin-Saint Kashim". Kalinin, however, took Sousuke in and raised him into the decent, but still paranoid and socially inept, young man he is today.

In his spare time, Kalinin enjoys cooking, and often wears a frilly, pink apron while doing it. However, he doesn't seem to be very good at it, as his Borscht (made with miso paste and cocoa powder) almost killed Tessa once, and is horrific enough that even the stoic Sousuke flees in terror. This is apparently because it's something his late wife used to make him when he returned home from a long mission, as a punishment. However, he never realized this, and actually thought it was delicious
