Side effect of having superhero parents and a village of ocean gods looking out for you. Princess Andy knows no fear
~ Erika Watson.
The daughter of two great heroes explored the universe, forging new pathways between worlds and uniting them like never before at great personal cost.
~ T.O. Morrow about About Andy and how she had to cut off her own foot.

Andrina 'Andy' Curry is the princess of the royal family of Atlantis and daughter from Aquaman and Mera's. In her early years, she took on the persona of Aqualass, standing by the side of the second Aquaman, Jackson Hyde as your sidekick. As she matured, she finally embraced the mantle of Aquawoman, destined to join the esteemed ranks of the Justice League.

Aquaman Vol. 8 #57" is the comic book issue where Andy was born.

Personality[]

Andy inherited both the best and the worst from her parents. Growing up as the heir princess of Atlantis, her life was constantly at risk, yet fear never seemed to know her. She possesses an incredible amount of courage. In her younger days, she often displayed recklessness and impatience, eager to fast-track her journey from Aqualass to Aquawoman. Andy despises feeling like a burden and is immensely emotionally resilient. To safeguard those she cares about, she can become fiercely protective, even willing to go to extreme lengths to keep them safe, "even cutting off your own foot". As an adult, she becomes a member of the Justice League, dedicating herself to safeguarding the vulnerable both in the depths of the sea and on the surface.

History[]

In a tumultuous time for Atlantis, Arthur and Mera's love faced insurmountable political barriers. When Mera revealed her pregnancy, Arthur, haunted by his own childhood experiences, grappled with the implications. Seeking clarity, Arthur departed, triggering a devastating response from Mera who, in a fit of rage, inadvertently caused his demise.

After a transformative encounter with ancient sea deities on the mystical isle of Unspoken Water, Arthur eventually returned to life. He settled in Amnesty Bay, while Mera remained in Atlantis. Their paths converged when Black Manta's actions brought Mera to the surface, leading to a wordless reconciliation between Aquaman and Mera. A skirmish ensued with Manta's Mecha Manta, culminating in Mera's heroic destruction of the machine. However, the exertion placed her in a coma. Rushed to an Atlantean hospital, she soon gave birth, with Arthur present for the birth of their daughter, whom he instantly adored, naming her Andy after his time on Unspoken Water.

Andy's initial months were spent in Amnesty Bay under Arthur's care, surrounded by his friends and allies. However, her peace was shattered when she was abducted by Ocean Master's agent. She was eventually rescued from a shipwreck by Arthur and his allies.

Following Orm's defeat and the monarchy's end, Andy rejoined her parents in Amnesty Bay. Her carefree spirit shone through even in perilous situations, like facing off pirates with Aqualad.

Throughout the challenges, Andy's resilience and joy remained unshaken, prompting Arthur and his allies to prepare for her safety in the face of future dangers.

Future State[]

As the daughter of Justice League members, Andy Curry frequented the Hall of Justice and was familiar with its team. In her childhood, a brutal Hyperclan attack led to a conflict between her parents over the League's harsh punishment for the adversaries, which Arthur deemed excessive.

Growing up, Andy acted as the sidekick to her father's protege, Jackson Hyde (formerly Aqualad). Though she clashed with Jackson, considering him an inadequate heir to her father's legacy, she secretly viewed him as an elder sibling. Rejecting the title "Aqualass," she insisted on being addressed as Aquawoman.

During a mission to apprehend Black Manta, Andy defied orders and engaged in combat, resulting in their capture. They were unexpectedly transported to an alien world called The Confluence. While traversing this realm, they aided inhabitants and sought a way back home. Facing a colossal sea monster, Andy sacrificed her own foot to save Jackson, ultimately stranded on an island.

Struggling for survival, Andy encountered intelligent alien fish, the "glimmerfish," who provided her with a telepathic prosthetic leg. Despite their guidance to leave, she remained, determined to find Jackson. Enduring trials orchestrated by the glimmerfish, she honed her skills while searching for her companion.

For six years, she traversed the Confluence, sharpening her abilities and battling obstacles in her quest to locate Jackson. Eventually discovering him imprisoned on Neptune, she orchestrated a daring rescue using her telepathic powers and led a rebellion against the Neptunian captors.

Justice League[]

After freeing Jackson, they escaped to the surface, where Andy's emotional strain became overwhelming. Jackson comforted her, affirming her bravery and their eventual journey home.

As an adult, Andy assumed the mantle of Aquawoman while her parents and mentor were away in the Confluence. She united with other legacy heroes to form a new Justice League, tasked with saving the multiverse from a crisis involving Darkseid and Starro. This League operated under strict rules barring personal relationships among its members.

While publicly distancing herself from her teammates, Aquawoman secretly dated The Flash, a fact unknown to the League. During an investigation at the abandoned Hall of Justice, they were ambushed by impostors from the Hyperclan, who ultimately imprisoned the League and took their places.

Transported to Earth Omega, an alternate world, the League encountered the imposter Hyperclan. Suspicions arose within the team, prompting them to verify their identities by sharing personal secrets. Flash teasingly revealed Andy's habit of talking in her sleep.

Tensions escalated, especially between Batman and Aquawoman, fueled by suspicions within the team. However, Flash's interdimensional abilities enabled their return to Earth. In a showdown at the Hall of Justice, Aquawoman identified the real imposter and thwarted the Hyperclan's plans.

Following their victory, the League reconvened to discuss new recruits in the reconstructed Hall of Justice.

Powers[]

  • Atlantean Hybridized Physiology: With a lineage of 3/4 Atlantean and 1/4 human, Andy's body naturally adapts to withstand extreme oceanic pressures, enabling her to survive underwater without the need for protection.
    • Amphibian: She can respire underwater indefinitely and endure extended periods on land without adverse effects, able to speak while submerged. Her partial human heritage allows her to spend considerably more time out of the water.
    • Superhuman Strength: Andy possesses enhanced strength characteristic of Atlanteans, a result of her adaptation to oceanic pressures.
    • Superhuman Durability: Her body is exceptionally durable, capable of enduring immense pressures found in the ocean depths.
    • Superhuman Speed, Stamina, and Reflexes: She displays heightened speed, stamina, and reflexes, typical traits of Atlanteans.
    • Enhanced Senses: Andy has augmented vision, hearing, and other sensory abilities.
  • Hydrokinesis: As a descendant of the Xebellian royal family inherited from her mother Mera, she commands water, shaping it into sharp blades or high-pressure jets for transportation. Additionally, she can create communication portals. Andy has also demonstrated the ability to extract moisture from the air itself.
  • Marine Mind Control: Similar to her grandmother Atlanna, she possesses a variant of Aquaman's telepathic ability, capable of controlling sea life. She rarely employs this power due to moral conflict. Her first use of this ability occurred in "Titans: Beast World Tour - Atlantis #1" to stop her transformed sea monster mother when she was an infant.

Abilities[]

  • Archery, Diving, Hand-to-Hand Combat (Advanced), Hunting, Survival, Swimming: Andy is adept in various physical and survival techniques, honed during her upbringing.
  • Diplomacy: As the princess and prospective queen of Atlantis, Andy likely possesses intermediate to advanced knowledge of Atlantean royal diplomacy.

Other Characteristics[]

  • Missing Limb: Andy's left leg is amputated below the knee. She utilizes a shape-shifting, telepathic alien fish known as a "glimmerfish" as a prosthetic.
  • Weapons - Gauntlets: Outfitted with bladed gauntlets forged in the depths of the Trench, her gauntlets feature forward-facing blades and spikes capable of penetrating even Kryptonian and Martian skin.

Trivia[]

  • Andy's selfless act of sacrificing her own leg echoes similar instances in alternate versions of her father, Arthur, in other storylines. In these narratives, Arthur lost a limb, such as his hand, to save his newborn child or faced similar sacrifices. This action could also symbolize a pirate-like appearance or thematic reference to piracy.
