Angela Sheehan is a character who appears in works centered on the McCourt Family. She is the main protagonist of the 2007 children's book, Angela and the Baby Jesus, which was based on a recollection of the childhood memories of the late author, Frank McCourt, told to him by his mother. The book was adapted into a 2017 Netflix animation, Angela's Christmas, narrated by Frank's brother, Malachy, and she returns as the protagonist of the film's 2020 sequel, Angela's Christmas Wish.
In the book and first film, set in 1914, Angela is the third child of the Sheehan family consisting of herself, her mother, her two older brothers, Tom and Pat, and her younger sister, Aggie. On one Christmas Eve while attending her local church in Limerick, Ireland, Angela notices a Baby Jesus statue that is naked. She feels sympathetic to it as she feels that he is lonely, and after the church service, she attempts to steal the statue and seeks to take care and keep him warm and cozy for one night before she returns it to the church.
In the sequel film, which takes place exactly a year after the first, Angela overhears her mother making plans for a Christmas surprise in the evening. Eavesdropping this information, she meets up with her older brother, Pat, in arranging their own Christmas surprise, which is to find a way to reunite with their father, who departed his family in 1910 to visit Australia. Along the way, they come across a wealthy girl named Dorothy, who, despite her father's realistic, yet blunt response to the Sheehan siblings' wish, decides to tag along and help Angela and Pat in getting to Australia and getting them back to their father.
Angela in the Netflix films is voiced by Lucy O'Connell.
