Okay, but listen good 'cause I'm tired of telling this story. That Cuckoo lady told her boss she had a kid's heart in a jar and she was gonna marry Mr. Chuckie's daddy just so she could be president!
~ Angelica to Mr. Yamaguchi about Coco LaBouche.
It's not fair! It's not fair! IT'S NOT FAIR!!!
~ Angelica throwing a bad tantrum in "Runaway Angelica".

Angelica Charlotte Pickles (born May 12, 1988) is the main antagonist of the Rugrats franchise.

She is the cousin of Tommy and Dil Pickles, the niece of Stu and Didi Pickles, the daughter of Drew and Charlotte Pickles, the granddaughter of Lou Pickles and the late Trixie Pickles and The step granddaughter of Lulu Pickles, and the occasional archenemy of Tommy Pickles.

She is a major spoiled brat and the recurring bully towards Tommy and the other babies, but will usually side with them or do something good for them. She is smart enough to make the adults believe she is a sweet and lovable character in order to mask her true nature toward younger children. Her parents, Drew and Charlotte Pickles, can be responsible for spoiling her a lot and making her the brat that she is, and sometimes not, today. However, she is sometimes a heroic character.

She was voiced by Cheryl Chase.

Personality[]

Angelica is a typically spoiled, obstreperous, impatient, bratty and shallow child. She's practically the makings of a selfish con artist in every way and will go out of her way to get what she wants, including lying and cheating and often tries to use cuteness as a weapon.

Angelica has often seen bullying and making fun of her cousins and their friends. Since she's older than the babies, who can only communicate with each other and Angelica, Angelica herself can communicate with the adults as well as the other Rugrats, which she uses to her advantage most of the time.

She's also shown to be untrustworthy, manipulative, and treacherous, as she often manipulates the babies into doing her bidding. However, Tommy, Kimi and Susie are quick to stand up to her before she gets out of hand.

In addition to all of this, Angelica can also be a huge hypocrite. She's often seen making fun of the babies over things that make them cry (if she's not making them cry herself), only to end up crying over those very things herself in the end. For example, she mocked Tommy over his fear of having a booster shot, but not only did Tommy and his new friend Hector not cry over it (he didn't even notice he was having it until after it was over), Angelica did cry over her own booster seat. She also made fun of the babies for crying over getting "a little wet" when Chuckie was potty training, only to have an "accident" later on and cry almost uncontrollably over it. However, these instances of hypocrisy could be chalked up to Angelica being incredibly insecure, as she is not always shown to be as sure of herself and the qualities that she thinks makes her superior to others as she lets on.

Angelica almost always gets her comeuppance (except for the very rare times when she can be a Karma Houdini, though she does get punished for those Karma Houdini acts), whether it would be getting in trouble with the adults or the babies getting even with her, so she is sometimes a scapegoat, too. Sometimes, a simple act of fate or karma can also give Angelica her comeuppance.

Despite everything, Angelica isn't really entirely evil at all. Deep down, she has a softer side, as she's seen sometimes helping the babies, depending on the situation. When she got betrayed by Coco in "Rugrats in Paris" she felt guilty seeing Chuckie cry wanting a mom like she and the others have, after trying to make Chuckie's dad marry Coco just for own parade, the others were angry at her for that but she apologized to Chuckie, but she made amends helping them defeat Coco and exposing her to her boss.

In All Grown Up!, 13-year-old Angelica clearly changed her personality as part of her maturity and beauty; She goes after boys more often and has outgrown the habit of carrying her Cynthia doll with her all the time, though in Missing Cynthia, she got her back. She also loves fashion as her favorite hobby and spends her time shopping at the mall in particular. Even so, a few elements of her former personality remain: she is still mean, spoiled and bossy, but to a much lesser extent than before. Angelica and Susie are still rivals, but they’re more frenemies than real enemies. However, Angelica is still jealous of Susie, mainly because she’s more talented than Angelica in most things, especially singing. In one episode, however, it turned out that Angelica has an extraordinary talent when it comes to charisma and conducting conversations and debates, which she used during the inter-school competition.

Trivia[]

  • As of Rugrats in Paris: The Movie, Angelica is the only Rugrat to remain an only child.
  • Angelica's song in Rugrats in Paris: The Movie, "Bad Girls", is the closest thing to a villain song as she has.
  • Due to her mean-spirited, aggressive behavior and juvenile actions. Many fans and the creator Arlene Klasky had considered her to be the most hated character in the series even more much so than Dil.
