Aniq Adjaye is the main protagonist of the comedy mystery Apple TV series, The Afterparty. He's a nerdy escape room designer who attended the high school reunion in hopes of finally confessing his love to his longtime crush, Zoë Zhu. This leads to him inadvertedly getting entangled in the case of the murder of Eugene Xavier, of which he becomes the primary suspect of, leading to him using his escape room skills in order to investigate the murder himself and prove his own innocence.
He's played by Sam Richardson, who also portrayed Norville Rogers in Velma.
Personality[]
Aniq is a nerdy and socially-awkward individual who often struggles to talk to people. While good-hearted and good-intentioned, Aniq is shown to be clumsy and usually gets himself into trouble because of it. Due to his nerdy interests and overall awkwardness, Aniq is often picked on by his peers, even as an adult. Due to having suffered bullying through most of his life, Aniq has shown to harbor some resentment towards those who picked on him during his teenage years, particularly Brett and Xavier, but it's clear it's only minor as he's shocked at the idea someone would murder Xavier, proving that even he wouldn't go as far.
Aniq is overall a very emotional person, who in many ways could be defined as a "hopeless romantic" (which is fitting, as his flashbacks are styled after the romantic comedy genre), given how he frequently pined after Zoë's affection for most of his life, but would often get his chances of confessing to her thwarted by factors beyond his control. On the flip side, Aniq is shown to be ocasionally overly dramatic, often exaggerating how he feels on his accounts to Danner.
