Anita Planert is the main protagonist of the 2024 psychological survival horror video game, Silent Hill: The Short Message, which is a spinoff of the Silent Hill video game series.

Anita is a teen girl who lives in the fictional town of Kettenstadt, Germany, and arrives at a deserted villa-style apartment complex in the city to meet her friend Maya, only to awaken and discover she’s trapped inside. As she navigates the eerie hallways, she confronts terrifying manifestations of her own fears and evade a lurking monster. Along the way, she uncovers disturbing truths about the events that ensnared her and races against time to escape before her traumatic past overwhelms her will to survive.

She was portrayed by Fadile Waked, while her voice was provided by Jeannie Tirado.

Personality[]

Like Maya, she is also a budding artist, though she doubts her abilities compared to Maya’s celebrated talent. Despite being an artist, Anita harbors intense self‑doubt. She measures her work against Maya’s effortless talent and fears she’ll never be “good enough.” At its worst, her critical inner voice shuts her down completely, convincing her to avoid risks or new experiences.

Biography[]

Past[]

Childhood[]

Anita and her brother grow up in Kettenstadt, Germany, with their single mother, Krysta. At first, Anita is affectionate and tries to please her mother by drawing family portraits. When Krysta brings a new man into their lives, both children reject him, leading Krysta to punish them harshly in an effort to force their acceptance. After her partner quits, Krysta’s mistreatment escalates: she neglects them in filthy conditions, confines them indoors, and even locks them in a closet for days. A concerned neighbor alerts child services, but Krysta retaliates by imprisoning them again (this time for over half a day) resulting in the tragic death of Anita’s brother, whose body she hides in the refrigerator. Anita ultimately flees to a neighbor, reports her mother to the police, and is placed in foster care. These events sow the seeds of Anita’s deep self-loathing.

High School at Kettenstadt[]

Later, Anita enrolls at the local high school, where she befriends Maya Hindenburg and Amelie. She admires Maya’s distinctive art, which uses cherry blossoms to explore girls’ inner struggles, but grows jealous as Maya gains online acclaim. Anita’s own attempts at recognition backfire, drawing ridicule instead. When Maya confides in Amelie via a hidden letter, Anita intercepts it, severing their bond. Feeling utterly abandoned and bullied for her heritage, Maya takes her own life by jumping from a rooftop. Overwhelmed by guilt, Anita buries those memories, relies on antidepressants, and doubts her prospects, believing she has no special talents to pursue college.

First Loop[]

Six months after Maya’s disappearance, Anita returns to the fog-shrouded Villa apartment complex, lured by Maya’s cryptic texts. Awakening inside, she searches the decaying halls, encountering Maya’s artworks and fragmented memories. Regular check‑ins from Amelie provide fleeting comfort until a monstrous, cherry‑blossom‑covered creature, “Sakura Head”, gives chase. Maya’s final text directs Anita to the art studio, but there’s no sign of her friend. During a call with Amelie, Anita learns Maya died by suicide months ago—information she inexplicably forgot—leaving Anita to wonder who has been texting her. A last message urges her to “find it,” though she doesn’t know what “it” is. Driven to despair by envy over Maya’s acclaim, Anita discovers Maya’s ultimate piece on the rooftop and leaps off.

Second Loop[]

Anita awakens again at the Villa, still trapped until she uncovers “it.” The complex is now more decrepit, with Maya’s work defaced. After reviewing Maya’s online posts and hateful comments, she suspects cyberbullies. Amelie repeats her earlier messages and admits she didn’t notice any warning signs before Maya’s death. Hunted again by Sakura Head, Anita is transported to the high school, where hallucinations replay Maya’s bullying. Back in the Villa studio, she finds an unseen artwork of Maya depicting Amelie, then recalls her own betrayal: hiding Maya’s letter. Confronted by Sakura Head on the rooftop, Anita confesses her role in Maya’s fate and jumps again.

Third Loop[]

A third awakening finds the Villa in utter ruin. Anita revisits her childhood home, reliving her mother’s abuse, before being plunged into the Otherworld and pursued by Sakura Head. Returning to Maya’s studio, she discovers an unfinished piece of Maya’s that would have portrayed Anita, proof her friend never abandoned her. On the rooftop, as she prepares to atone with another leap, Amelie calls with an invitation to a shopping trip and a heart‑to‑heart, breaking the cycle. The fog dissipates, and Anita is freed. Later, Amelie’s social‑media post reveals that both girls have left Kettenstadt to begin college together, moving forward from their shared trauma.

Trivia[]

  • Anita's ethnicity has not been officially confirmed; However, her actress, Fadile Waked, is Brazilian. It is unknown if Anita could be German of Brazilian descent.
  • The reason why Anita experiences paranormal events similar to the ones that occurred in the American town of Silent Hill, even though she is in Germany, is explained in an in-game document titled "The Silent Hill Phenomenon," which describes a paranormal phenomenon in which the barrier between the subconscious and the conscious world blurs. As a result, private delusions take physical form, an effect reminiscent of the infamous events in Silent Hill, Maine.
