Antares Squadron are a group serving as the main protagonists of the video game Ace Combat: Joint Assault. They are a squadron of fighter pilots working for Martinez Security and taking part in operations against the terrorist organization Valahia.
Biography[]
Not much is known about the members of the squadron, other than their leader, Antares 1, having served in the military in the past. They were first seen taking part in a military show over Midway Island, which was attacked by unidentified aircraft. Right after, Valahia terrorists conducted an attack on the city of Tokyo, forcing Martinez Security to send its Antares and Rigel Squadrons to assist the Japanese in defending the city. The mercenaries were successful in repelling the attack. Valahia would attack the city again, and Rigel Squadron would defect to their side. Nevertheless, Antares repelled this attack as well, destroying the terrorists' airborne fortress "Orgoi".
Antares Squadron joined the International Union Peacekeeping Force, a group meant to counter Valahia's activities, and were successful in curbing the organization's military capacity. The terrorists, however, took over a missile silo and attempted to launch nuclear weapons at Europe and North America if their demands were not met. Antares Squadron stopped the missile launch and destroyed the silo, putting an end to Valahia's threat. However, they learned in the process that the Valahia crisis was orchestrated by a businessman Andre Olivieri, one of the IUPF backers, who now planned to attack the United States. Antares quit the IUPF and rushed back to America, where they came under attack by Olivieri's private army. When the businessman's forces attacked San Francisco, Antares Squadron was dispatched to destroy them and save the city. There, they encountered the Rigel Squadron, now rechristened "Varcolac Squadron", and shot them all down in a dogfight. Thanks to the Antares Team's efforts, the battle for the city ended with Olivieri's death and the details of his Golden Axe Plan revealed to the public.

- The number of Antares Squadron members can vary from one to four, depending on the number of players. Four, however, seems to be the canonical number.
- Antares 1 is the only member of the squadron whose gender (male) is confirmed.
- Antares Squadron members are known to have used the following planes: F-22A, F-14D, Su-37 and Rafale M. Which of them was used by Antares 1 is a subject of debate among fans.
