Anthony Hope is the tritagonist of the 1979 musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and its 2007 film adaptation of the same name. He is a young sailor who befriends Todd and later falls in love with his daughter Joanna.
He is portrayed by Jamie Campbell Bower in the film, who also portrayed Henry Creel in Stranger Things, voiced Skiff in Thomas and Friends.
History[]
In 1846, Anthony arrives in London and declares his excitement at the prospect of a new life, to which his new acquaintance Sweeney Todd replied that life has been kind to him. Todd then tells him his backstory and tells him to be wary of others. Anthony later stops by Todd's new place and reveals his plan to save Johanna from Turpin.
He goes to Turpin's house and spots Johanna in the window. A beggar woman passes by and tells him more about Johanna after he gives her some money. Turpin then lets Anthony into his house and they chat about things. But when Anthony tells him his feeling for the girl, he has his servant Bamford beat him up. Despite this, Anthony makes arrangements for him and Johanna to run away. He later bursts into Todd's shop while the Judge is there and announces what he's doing. This causes the Judge to leave and sends Johanna to an asylum and Todd shouts at Anthony to never come back.
Over the next several weeks, Anthony searches for Johanna and finds the asylum she was sent to. While there he rescues her while holding the asylum owner at gunpoint, and then leaves him at the mercy of his patients. Then he drops Johanna off at her father's shop. Later, after Johanna tells him what her father did, he gets the police and they go to Mrs. Lovett's shop to try and stop them, but when they arrive, they find Todd and Mrs. Lovett already dead.
