History[]
Early life[]
Aoi Izumi was born on October 14, 2008, to Hideo and Rino Kawamoto. At an early age, parents traveled on a trip for research purpose abroad and entrusted her with the Kingstone before leaving her in the care of Misaki Izumi. Shunsuke Komatsu, the Sparrow Kaijin, became a friend of hers sometime during her childhood. This prompted her to advocate for the coexistence of humans and Kaijins because of her strong relationships with him.
Present[]
Aoi is now a human rights activist who campaigns to end Kaijin discrimination. She gained global notice after delivering a speech at the United Nations. Her presence was recognized by the Gorgom Party, who discovered she possessed the Kingstone. When the Spider Kaijin attempted to kill Aoi, Kotaro Minami protected her and took her to his lair to recover. However, Gorgom Party would continue to threaten Aoi and her close friends. The Anemone Kaijin would kill Misaki and stalk her home. Because of the incident, Aoi is now living with Kotaro and she starts making close relationship with him.
Aoi is taken in by Kotaro and asked him to train her with him to sharpen her fighting skills. Unbeknownst to Aoi, her parents had returned from overseas to Japan but are apprehended by Bilgenia. When Aoi reunited with her father, she is stunned to learn that he had been transformed into a Kaijin and he is forced to be killed by Kujira.
While attempting to learn about Kotaro's background via her source Nick, she is duped into a trap by Bilgenia and transformed into a Kaijin by Nomi. After witnessing her mother's death, Aoi mutated into Mantis Kaijin. She lost control and is nearly subdued by Kotaro before he realized what had happened to her. Bilgenia kidnapped Aoi to rouse the Creation King, but he is recovered in a raid conducted by Nobuhiko Akizuki to free the captured humans.
She learned how to shift into her Kaijin form owing to Shunsuke. Curious about the origins of Kaijin, she dug up Oliver Johnson's grave and discovered that humans created the Creation King and Kaijin as weapons of war. When Aoi returned to her neighborhood, she is stunned to discover that Shunsuke had been executed by a radical Kaijin movement that is lead by Wataru Igaki. After learning about Kotaro's horrific injuries from Shadowmoon, Aoi participated in his resurrection and imprinted a symbol on his left chest.
Aoi, hiding at Kotaro's bus, used the video provided by Bilgenia to reveal the human experimentations behind the origins of Kaijin to the whole public. After learning that Satansaber could destroy the Creation King from professor Soichiro Akizuki, Aoi traveled to the Gorgom Party headquarters at night and she is transformed into Mantis Kaijin with her new Driver, only to discover that Kotaro had been transformed into the Creation King after his attempt to stab the Cretion King's heart. With no other options, Aoi is compelled to execute Kotaro with Satansaber.
Several months later, Aoi, Nomi, and Kujira start a rebel group to fight the corrupt government led by Isao Nimura who enforces his own policies of discrimination against Kaijins and immigrants. Aoi takes up the symbol of the now-deceased Kotaro Minami to symbolized the freedom of Kaijin from the government authoritarian regime.
Forms[]
Mantis Kaijin[]
Mantis Kaijin (蟷螂カマキリ怪人, Kamakiri Kaijin?) is Aoi's Kaijin form, gained after being experimented by Bilgenia and Nomi. Aoi learns martial arts from Kotaro Minami, which improved her combat ability. During her first transformation into a Kaijin, she lost herself and unleashed a merciless onslaught on Black Sun.
Her quick movements and precision with her praying mantis claws was a challenge to Black Sun. While fleeing the Gorgom Party offices with Shunsuke Komatsu, she performed a sickle strike to repel SWAT officers.
Mantis Kaijin (With Driver)[]
After learning to transform into Mantis Kaijin by channeling force throughout her body, Aoi is eventually able to summon a Driver. This allowed her to grow into a more streamlined Kaijin form. She performs a transformation pose inspired by Kotaro's to achieve this evolved condition.
During the combat at the Gorgom Party Headquarters, Aoi is able to race along walls at breakneck speed, dodging gunfire and defeating high-ranking Gorgom Party Kaijin. Despite being outnumbered and at a disadvantage, Aoi received timely support from Kujira and Nomi, who came to her relief. She heads to the Creation King's throne room, where Aoi confronted Kotaro Minami that had been turned into the new Creation King.
