Chihiro Ogino has declared April O'Neil (TMNT 2003) is to be renamed to
April O'Neil (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003)

for the following reason(s): {{{2}}}
Please discuss it on the talk page for this article.
"I want you to know my real name. It's Chihiro."

Stop hand

April O'Neil is one of the main characters the 2003 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. She is an ally and sometimes motherly-figure for the Turtles.

She was voiced by Veronica Taylor, who is famous for voicing as Ash Ketchum from Pokémon in the 4Kids English version, as well as Sailor Pluto in the Viz dub of Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon Crystal, and Sirica in Kirby: Right Back at Ya.

Appearance[]

April has a slim figure along with red, crimson hair with pale skin and dark green eyes, and due to her appearance and origin of her name, she may be of an Irish descent. As time goes on, she develops a bit of a muscular tone to her limbs. Her primary outfit is a purple belly shirt, baggy khaki pants, and dark blue shoes. Her hair is normally made into a bun in the back.

In Back to the Sewer, her design is streamlined to emulate her 2007 film incarnation. Her normal civilian clothes consist of a pink t-shirt with a white rectangle, a necklace, a pair of gray jeans tied in a brown belt, brown bracelets with blue and purple shoes. Her hair, still in a bun, is more of an orange or light auburn color. Her skin is also less pale. In battle, she tends to wear a yellow jumpsuit reminiscent of her 2007 movie appearance, as well as Bruce Lee.

Personality[]

April is shown to be a friendly, smart and intuitive young woman who acts as a big sister and even a motherly figure to the Ninja Turtles and cares deeply for them to the point where she's willing to risk her life to defend them. Despite the weirdness that she is thrusted into on a daily basis since her attempted assassination by her boss, April has been able to accimilate eventually to where nothing at all seems to be too weird for her.

Despite Casey's brutishness, ill temper, and low intelligence, April develops romantic attraction to him, though their contrasting personalities often make them bicker with each other, though this could be the case of "Opposites Attract". Her attraction to him could be because of his inherent kindness and honesty as well.

Like other incarnations of the character, April was fearful of the Turtles and Splinter at first, then overtime started to warm up to them and become their closest ally. She shows that she is loyal and reliable to the Turtles, Splinter and Casey.

This version of April makes much more use of her scientific expertise and she often uses her computer skills to aid the Turtles. The most prominent example of this is in the "Return to New York" three-parter, where the Turtles and Splinter assault Shredder's tower, all the while April commuicates with them and gives them the layout of the building. Compared to various previous incarnations, she becomes over the course of the series much more capable in combat, being able to handle large hornets as well as some gangsters with ease.

History[]

April originally served as an assistant to Baxter Stockman until his Mouser experiments got out of control, and after the Turtles saved her she became a faithful friend, ally, and "big sister" to them. April made much more use of her scientific expertise and she often used her computer skills to aid the Turtles. While she is close to all four of the turtles, April's closest to Donatello (like in most incarnations of the franchise), who shares many of the same interests as her (particularly relating to things like science and technology). In Season 7 she sometimes helped Donatello to collect Splinter's data bits. April developed a modest knowledge of combat skills after training with Splinter. Her quick thinking was often instrumental to the Turtles' survival.

April is romantically attracted to Casey Jones, though their contrasting personalities often make them bicker. But they eventually started dating, and their relationship became serious enough where, in the final season of the 2k3-series, Casey proposed to April and the two got married in the series finale ("Wedding Bells and Bytes").

The young adult April continues to learn how to defend herself against Foot ninjas and other monstrosities by undergoing basic ninja training from the Turtles. She is quite skilled in some useful firearms, and can easily go through a laser grid with no problem at all.

In the seventh and final season, she dons a yellow-and-black jumpsuit based on the TMNT film and carries a tantō sword to further perfect her fighting skills. At one point, she became psionically linked with a female mermaid-like mutant who had telepathically shown her the hardships of her childhood and that the few of her kind were on the verge of extinction.

In addition to her recently developed ninjutsu skills, April is incredibly intelligent, smart and resourceful in complex scientific fields; similar to her good friend Donatello. So much that she even had worked for the eccentric Baxter Stockman as his assistant. She was able to hack into the computers of Shredder's stronghold and even breach several codes. She was seen wielding a katana in the special episode "Turtles Forever".
